CAR MAKER HOPES TO STANDARDIZE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING WITH

Japanese auto titan Coyota announced today its commitment to get consumers more interested in its lineup of electric vehicles at an event in Tokyo, Japan. The company has seen strong performance this year thanks to increased sales of the Lamery sedans and Arctic Desert pickup trucks, but Director of Sales Chin Chin Tajiri says that its sale of electric vehicles could be better. According to Tajiri, the new generation of Trii, dubbed the Trius Alpha, will have better battery performance, more space, and look less embarrassing to drive around in. "We took a step back and thought, ‘We could do better,'" Tajiri told reporters at the press event. "For the sake of our shareholders, we needed to

USB-C

do better." While the presentation discussed improvements to the Trius line of electric vehicles, the 90-minute presentation focused heavily on USB-C integration; a feature Tajiri was most proud of. In addition to the integration of USB-A and -C ports all over the Trius Alpha, the car itself can also be charged via USB-C. Tajiri hopes that Coyota will set an example for all other electric car manufacturers to follow. "Many companies are taking a step towards a more unified and connected future. Having a standard cable to use for all of your belongings, is a key component of that future," Tajiri said. "We thought, why not include your electric car? Because of this future we believe in, every Trius Alpha comes with two USB-C cables for

free. Does your Mango phone come with two USB-C cables?" Tajiri states that while the car can be charged through a standard wall adapter, like that one that comes with your smartphone, the Trius Alpha will come with a fast charger that needs to be installed in your garage. Through fast charging, the Trius will get about 40% of its maximum driving range in about two hours. To prolong the life of the batteries, the fast charger has an option to charge at a slower rate. "I remember the first time I tried to charge my phone with the fast charger," Tajiri recounted. "It charged so quickly, but it was so, so hot." Other electric car

companies, like Edison, have not expressed an interest in working with other manufacturers to develop a standard charging cable for all-electric cars. Depending on how well the Trius Alpha sells, they may be willing to talk. The Coyota Trius Alpha is expected to launch late next year, though Coyota is accepting pre-order deposits for the soon-to-be-released car.
