Little Women Program

Director’s Note

Directing Little Women has been an incredible experience. Directing a play of this scale, particularly with a story that has been adapted in so many ways is a challenge. Lucky for me, I had the best cast and crew imaginable to tackle this piece with. If I were to sum up the experience of working on this show in one word I would say collaborative. I had the privilege of working with Nithila, the student writer who adapted our show. She was an amazing resource through this process and I hope you love her words as much as we’ve loved working with them. I was lucky in that many of the people working on this show grew up with the story of Little Women, as I’m sure many of you have. A lot of the loveliest moments you’ll see on stage tonight are not mine at all. Our wonderful cast would constantly come to me with new ideas to enhance their characters and the story. It was such a blessing to be able to give them the space to develop these moments with each other and I am so excited for you all to see the world we’ve built. At its heart, Little Women is all about family and the strong connections we make over the course of our lives. I never could have imagined that we would build a new family in our process of bringing the March family to the stage. I really love every person who has been part of this project and I hope you feel that love on stage tonight. Thank you.
