welcome Welcome to Arundel Gallery Trail 2019. Now in its 31st year, the Trail continues to highlight a broad spectrum of the visual and creative arts. There are 56 town centre venues, spread across private homes, permanent galleries, and historic buildings. But please do take the short drive to the beautiful Mill Studio, venue #16 BN18 0EF This year we are breaking new ground! We have taken on the curation of the Victoria Institute, venue #1, where we showcase new, exciting and diverse work by 10 artists and makers, from local and London studios. One of the highlights is our ‘Secret Artist’ Exhibition and Auction at venue #1. The centre pages have the full story and how to place your bid. With an updated logo, new ﬂags and redesigned website we hope you will take full advantage of all the Trail has to oﬀer and invite others to come! Victoria Institute Makers and Artists Venue #1, Tarrant Street

Your art hub for collecting a Trail Guide and much more! 10 artists inhabit 3 ﬂoors 10 eclectic and diverse styles plus...our Secret Artist Auction Exhibition

 Ground ﬂoor and basement rooms... Julie Turner will be transforming the back basement rooms, bringing a presence to the long abandoned spaces. Expect something a little bit surreal from an artist who is known for her use of out of context garments and doll-like ﬁgures. Stand in the presence of Christopher Baker’s large, quiet landscapes in the ‘brick room’, then slowly turn the pages of his own personal sketchbooks. Visit Polly Dutton and admire her energetic and abstract paintings. Free Trail Guides and map are also available from Polly’s room.

On the first floor... View all the diverse and original works on exhibit for the Secret Artist Auction and take the opportunity to place your sealed bid in the box provided! Here, swallows fly across the ceiling in an Origami installation conceived by international artist Michael Trew.

Discover the artistry of ceramics and pottery by Jonathan Waights and the flowing monoprints of Johannah Muriel, both regular Trail exhibitors. Nettie Rowsell, a professional textile conservator, displays her very fine work, and this is a wonderful chance to look at her evocative thread portraits close up. Ann Symes, artist and owner of Gallery57 in Tarrant Street, is showing her own work. The evident geometric and architectural elements reflect the planes of sloped, angled roofs and linear edges of buildings that surround her.

Stairwell and landing... Look up to see the contemporary ‘stretched glass’ digital artwork of Oliver Mitchell, a graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art. His urban landscapes are also on display. Photographic work of a very diﬀerent nature by Rob Shrine, an Arundel based tattoo artist, completes the space. See more of his designs at venue #39.

Second floor studio... It’s certainly worth the climb to the second floor studio of Frances Knight - a light filled space with exceptional views, perfectly showcasing her colourful landscape paintings.
