APR–JUN

HOTA proudly acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are situated, the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connections to the lands, waters and their extended communities throughout South East Queensland.

Hello The big moment is here. On Sat 8 May, we finally threw open the doors to the brand new HOTA Gallery – the biggest, brightest art gallery the Gold Coast has ever seen, and the biggest art gallery outside of a capital city in Australia. Since becoming HOTA in 2018, we’ve welcomed over 1.2 million visitors; and now with the HOTA experience now the Gallery, Outdoor Stage, 2 cinemas, 3 theatres, parklands, lake-fun, our Café, and a new Bar and Restaurant – we’re fast becoming Australia’s best contemporary cultural playground.

Now Open

HOTA GALLERY THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE GOLD COAST’S CONTEMPORARY CULTURAL PRECINCT HOTA, HOME OF THE ARTS. LYRICAL LANDSCAPES THE ART OF WILLIAM ROBINSON

31 Jul–3 Oct 2021

THE SECOND MAJOR EXHIBITION IN HOTA GALLERY CELEBRATES ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S GREATEST LANDSCAPE PAINTERS, AND LIVING ARTISTS, WILLIAM ROBINSON AO. Robinson’s work has been inspired by the magic of our very own backyard – the Gold Coast hinterland – and his landscape visions enchant and inspire in unlikely ways. Lyrical Landscapes presents a selection of Robinson’s art, including monumental multi-paneled paintings from his Creation series including HOTA Gallery’s own majestic work, The Rainforest. For the first time the entire Creation series produced over 16 years, will be presented together as the centerpiece of the exhibition in an experience that highlights the artist’s spiritual connection to the natural world, and his love of classical music. Former Governor-General and proud Queenslander Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO is the guest curator of this free exhibition. Tickets on sale now.

13 Nov 2021–27 Feb 2022

ART FROM THE MUGRABI COLLECTION

CONTEMPORARY

MASTERS FROM NEW YORK

THE THIRD MAJOR EXHIBITION IN THE NEW HOTA GALLERY IS A WORLD PREMIERE EXCLUSIVE TO AUSTRALIA. As the inaugural international exhibition for HOTA Gallery, Contemporary Masters will be a landmark cultural event for the Gold Coast. From soup cans to graffiti tags, artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Richard Prince and Jeff Koons revolutionised contemporary art, bringing a street savvy and political edge to the New York art scene. With works by each artist now commanding millions of dollars, and gaining extensive curatorial cache, this is an extraordinary opportunity to experience firsthand the work of these artistic and cultural influencers. Developed by HOTA Gallery Director, Tracy Cooper-Lavery and featuring approximately 70 career-defining works drawn entirely from the collection of famed art collector Jose Mugrabi, the exhibition will mark the first time these iconic works have been shown in Australia. Influential, popular and controversial, these artists are a unique cultural phenomenon, whose reach extends far beyond the international art world. Tickets on sale soon.

8 May–10 Oct

Dancing fills us with endorphins and lets us lose the worries of the day. So for the very first time, Common People Dance Project are recruiting for Team Gold Coast - take part in the weekly all ages, all abilities (all fun) theatrical group-dance class and at the end you and the rest of the team will battle it out with other teams from across SouthEast Queensland at the Common People Dance Eisteddfod at South Bank Piazza as part of Brisbane Festival 2021.
