reetings family! Once again we have made it through another quarter and seen God do some amazing things through this ministry. It seems like time is flying by, but we are well on our way of accomplishing many goals that we have set for this year of Kingdom Expansion. I am truly amazed at what has happened and what is yet to come.

In this issue of the Visions of Glory, you will see articles about many of the events and services we have had so far this year. Through the grace of God, we have been host to some life-changing events that have impacted many and changed lives.

One service I was so happy with was our first Thunder on Thursday service this year. In April, Dr. Jasmin Sculark of the Jericho City of Praise church in Landover, MD came and blessed this house

with a powerful word! It was amazing to see so many people freely worshipping and a mighty move of God came through New B. This anointed woman of God let the Lord use her to change lives with a powerful word.

We also had many classes and workshops to help our people expand their spiritual knowledge. Our conference for our leaders was very successful. I was also blessed to participate in and help facilitate our Christian Finance Class.

It warmed my heart to see so many members come out and learn the basics of Christian Finances. So many of our church family struggle in this area. This series of classes enabled us to teach our people how to handle the blessings and resources that God gives us in a way that is both pleasing to Him and beneficial to us. I can’t wait to share more on this subject in the near future.

While we have been able to do so much to help with our spiritual expansion, this year is also going to be about our physical expansion. We are very close to the start of our building project to add on a Youth Center. God has blessed us to be in a position to build and be able to have more classrooms and space for our children and for additional events.

I am truly excited about what is to come. Be on the lookout for expansion in every area of the church. Family, I am so humbled to be the Pastor of this fine church. God truly has been good to us. I ask you all to stay obedient and receptive to God’s will. He wants us to expand.

I will do everything in my power to lead us to where God wants us to be. With all that He is doing, I truly believe, the best is yet to come. God bless you and keep you. That is my prayer.

reetings church family! I pray that as we finish another quarter of 2015 that this year has been filled with good times and blessings so far.

I have been truly blessed and I eagerly anticipate all that God has in store for the rest of the year.

As we enter into the summer months, there are some very exciting activities planned for our New B. family. I am excited about the many fun-filled and uplifting activities we are planning. God has truly been good to this church.

Since we have been so blessed, we want to be a blessing to our family and our community. We have some wonderful events planned. In years past, we have had a back to school event to give away school supplies to children in our church and family. This year we want to make it an even bigger and better event.

From the First Lady We will be hosting the 2015 New Beginnings Fellowship Church Community Extravaganza in July. This event will be a wonderful day of music, food, fun, giveaways and fellowship.

Our parking lot will be turned into a fun-land with games and bounce houses for the kids, a stage with live music, free food and much, much more. We will also be giving away school supplies to all kids. Children of all ages will receive supplies to help them begin the new school year.

We will also be hosting a Health Fair that same week. This will be an opportunity for children in the community to get free physicals, eye exams and dental cleanings. There will also be an opportunity for adults to get free health screenings. During this day, games, movies and snacks will be provided while people wait for their health screenings.

We have so much in store for our church family and community this summer, I cannot wait to see it all come together. Family, we have been so blessed that we must turn around and bless others in need. It is what God would want us to do.

Now here is what I need from you. Please be receptive and obedient to God’s voice.

We will need lots of volunteers and donations for these events to be a success. Please donate your time, talent and treasure to be a blessing to someone in need. I know our church family has the people and resources to help make a powerful impact on this community. I cannot wait to serve with you this summer. As always, I want you all to know how much I love each and every one of you. I constantly keep my New B family lifted in my prayers. God bless you and keep you. That is my prayer.

reetings in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. On behalf of the Visions of Glory Team, I give thanks, honor and praise to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

New Beginnings had so many wonderful, fulfilling events during the second quarter. In this edition we highlight our love and compassion for those in need.

Helping those less fortunate is a priority for New Beginnings.

Our Homeless Outreach event was second to none this quarter.

So many people in need were prayed for, encouraged, provided food to eat, witnessed to about Jesus Christ and in return gave

their lives to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! We thank all of the volunteers who work so very hard to help those in need while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This edition also displays our support for the Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure Event. This event was organized to raise funds to support the cure for breast cancer. This was an awesome event and we look forward to participating every year. We also highlight our Mother’s Day celebration where many moms were blessed by New Beginnings; our Christian Finance Classes led by our very own, Pastor Jackson;

Finally, we were also blessed during this quarter to have the opportunity to hear the teachings of Pastor Jasmin Sculark or “Dr. Jazz” during our “Thunder on Thursday” event. We had a huge turnout for this event and the message was very educational and inspiring! We hope that this edition is a blessing to you and pray that you have a wonderful and joyful summer!

S

eed Sunday and the gift of the sacrificial offering has become an embedded tradition of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church. Seed Sunday 2015 was reserved for Sunday, May 3, 2015, as an opportunity for the members, partners, and friends of the New B family to commit and sow a sacrificial seed. We sow in anticipation of receiving the harvest that God has in store for us.

On this Seed Sunday, Pastor Jackson delivered the message entitled “A Gift that Makes God Smile.” The sermon was a reminder of our duty as Christians to take advantage of our capacity to give at each opportunity

so that others may be blessed. The tradition of the sacrificial seed is a true testament of all that Pastor Jackson and the New B family has been able to accomplish throughout the church and the communities that we serve.

The service ended with communion and a message from Pastor Jackson as a call to action to come and partner with the New Beginnings Fellowship Church in prayer and the giving of our gifts. We hope to carry on this tradition so that New B can continue to meet the needs of God’s people and to continue to invest in God’s Kingdom.

he Moms of New Beginnings felt the love and appreciation all morning long for the special Mother’s Day service on Sunday, May 10, 2015.

The men’s choir opened each service with energetic praise and worship, giving the mothers who serve in the Worship & Arts Ministry a chance to sit back and enjoy the service. Men in various ministries around the church did the same. Special musical guest, Denise Tichenor, inspired and awed the congregation with her rendition of “I Won’t Complain” before Pastor James Jackson gave his message.

It was truly motivating for not only mothers, but for anyone who heard it.

The sermon titled “Thanks Mom for Having My Back,” told the story of Solomon’s mother, Bathsheba, who pleaded with Solomon’s father, King David, to keep his promise that Solomon would one day be king. Solomon’s future was

in jeopardy after David’s fourth son, Adonijah, attempted to seize the throne for himself. Because of Bathsheba’s persistence and pleading on Solomon’s behalf, he not only became king, but is still known to this day as one of the richest and wisest men to ever live.

Pastor Jackson pointed out that without Bathsheba, who knows what Solomon’s life would have lead to. He encouraged all mothers to protect their children like Bathsheba, and be aware of the world’s systems that try to taint the future of their sons and daughters and set them up for failure.

The Pastor then closed the service by praying for all mothers. He also gave them a special gift card to make sure no single mom left empty-handed and would be able to provide for her children on Mother’s Day.

r. Jasmin Sculark AKA Dr. Jazz brought the thunder for the first Thunder on Thursday of 2015. As the Senior Pastor of Jericho City of Praise in Landover, MD, Author and Evangelist, Dr. Jazz shared a message of the true meaning of sacrifice of praise with the New Beginnings congregation of members and friends on April 23rd.

Coming out of the book of St. John 12:1-8, the Trinidad native spoke on the infamous woman, Mary, who served Jesus with a year’s worth of her salary using perfume from her Alabaster box.

But Dr. Jazz went even deeper to explain the familiar story. She reminded congregants that one of the men seated at the table with Jesus, named Lazarus, used to be a dead man. Yet there he was, alive, supping with the Lord. Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of the Christ, spoke up saying that the offering would have been better used for the poor, as if to say that Mary was wasting her offering on Christ.

Then Christ intervenes and tells Judas to “leave her alone.”

Dr. Jazz shared an experience from her childhood that left her bound for many years and even considering death. However, she told churchgoers that pain or death is not our end destination.

In fact, it is an opportunity for God

to raise us up; so that we can offer God our best in everything we do, including our praise to Him. Dr. Jazz then used this scripture to tell us how people like Judas really don’t care about others, and will try to interrupt or even stop your extravagant praise. But God recognizes that and protects us.

With her unique brand of ministering, the service quickly turned from the audience occupying their seats, to people filling the aisles, each praising God in their own way, as Dr. Jazz reminded and uplifted.

Dr. Jazz also revealed that she would be heading back to the place that caused her much pain as a child— Trinidad. She will be breaking a promise to herself that she made when she vowed to never return because of her pain. But she is keeping a promise to the Lord she made after her deliverance to share the word of God, by returning to her home. She asked to congregation to pray for her as she delivers the word, as the Lord presses it upon her, surely offering them what she shared with New Beginnings, an opportunity to offer an extravagant praise to the Lord.

“LIFE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT” BOOK SIGNING

D

r. James Anthony Jackson is a man of many titles.

Pastor, teacher, husband, father are all titles he proudly holds.

Well now you can add the title of author to the list. On April 15th, Pastor Jackson released his first book, “Life Under New Management.”

The book asks the question, have you ever been frustrated with the direction your life has been going? Are you tired of the same struggles and challenges? The issue may not be with your life, but in how it is being managed. When we allow God to take control of our lives as opposed to doing what the world has told us to do, then we are operating under new management.

In this life changing book, Dr. Jackson shows

us how our lives can be completely changed once we operate under new management- a life led and directed by God. Learning how to submit everything in our lives to the will of God is critical for our spiritual development. You will learn how allowing God to take control of your attitude, mouth, relationships, as well as your body can totally transform your life.

:45AM. No hint of sunlight in sight. Yet, there was a glimmer of excitement in the eyes of every young person that boarded the bus. Spring break had officially begun! Thirty–eight high school students along with seven New B adult chaperones explored six Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) together; all in four days. The schools visited were Tennessee State University, Fisk University, Spellman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Tuskegee University.

At each school, we toured the campus and enjoyed an intimate presentation by the Office of Admissions. Our students got a feel for the personality of each college and were able to ask questions about admissions, tuition and campus life.

However, the visit to Tuskegee University was a little different. This visit held a special meaning to all of us because it is the place Pastor Jackson attended and accepted his call to the ministry.

The students were able to take part in the Preview Day that lasted a great deal of the day. We were a small group among at least 1,000 other students who wanted to learn more about Tuskegee University. We were greeted by the department chair of each educational department, the President of the university,

the Golden Voices Choir and even the marching band! The students were then able to tour the campus and learn more about the historical foundation of the school, eat lunch and watch a Greek step show.

The youth not only had the opportunity to receive valuable insight as they decide which college to attend, but just as importantly made connections with each other and developed friendships with other teens within the church.

They also bonded with the chaperones who continue to volunteer to help and serve our youth in any way possible.

As a precursor to this trip, the College Connection ministry hosted the “On the Yard” event between services. This gave students an idea of what college life is like, and offered them information from local colleges and universities and tips on how to receive scholarships.

It’s no secret that New B Indy is crazy about our youth! Not only do we want to see them grow into spiritually mature adults, we also want to see them succeed in life.

A

s children we learn that money is important. It’s useful for satisfying a need— scratching an itch so to speak. I can remember getting a weekly allowance as a child and feeling compelled to immediately go spend it.

My money would burn a hole in my pocket until I had given the mall every penny in my possession! It was not until I sat in the Christian Finance Class: Money 101 that I realized my spending habits as an adult have gone unchanged. In a series of finance classes, Pastor Jackson and Accounting Assistant Veberly Clinkscale shed so much light on how many of God’s people are living as slaves to our money, all because we are in debt.The focus of the April 14, 2015 class, as Pastor James Jackson said, was to go back to the basics. We learned about setting up an emergency fund, becoming knowledgeable about our debts, setting a vision for our funds, and being mature enough to stay dedicated to having healthy finances.

EMERGENCY FUND CNN reports that 76% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck— and only 1/4 of Americans have an emergency fund set aside. Life happens—and it is our responsi-

bility to be prepared. According to Pastor Jackson, “If you do not have at least $1,000 in your rainy day fund, and you buy extra items [clothes, shoes, concert tickets, etc.] then you are robbing your household.” For some of us that may seem like a daunting task, but Sis. Veberly encouraged us that it can be done. She gave the class helpful tips and ideas on how to quickly increase our funds, while getting the whole family involved.

BE KNOWLEDGEABLE Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are ruined because they don’t know what is right or true.” The next step in this process is knowing where we stand with our creditors. Knowing how much our monthly debt is compared to our monthly income will help us to have a clear picture of where we actually are. Gathering bills, and ordering credit scores are just two simple ways the class was encouraged to get into the financial driver’s seat.

HAVE A VISION Sis. Veberly shared her testimony about how she has been debt free for 19 years. She says, “I learned early to take care of my money, so that later in life my money would take care of me.” The easiest way

to take care of our money is to first understand where it goes. Taming our money can be best accomplished by creating a simple monthly budget, AND STICKING TO IT! Pastor Jackson and Sis Veberly highlighted the importance of using cash only to make sure we are aware of how we are spending our money. Pastor reiterated that we must stop letting our money manage us. Instead, we need to “name” our money, and then assign it appropriately.

Grow in Maturity Being good stewards of our finances requires maturity. The class encouraged us to take responsibility over our finances. Pastor Jackson and Sis. Veberly emphasized that we must be willing to handle money with a mindset that encourages us to be awake and alert; versus the world’s way that would have us live numbed to our inadequacies.

The road to healthy finances is not an overnight trip. But I am dedicated and excited to learn new ways to maximize my income—living within my means and glorifying God to the fullest.

n Saturday, June 6th Cavallo Bus Lines closed its doors in front of New Beginnings Fellowship Church, East Campus promptly at 8:00 am with about 50 passengers.

But these were not your ordinary passengers, but were the “Recycled Teenagers” of the New B Guiding Light Ministry, and invited family and friends.

As we pulled away from New B., this trip personally took me down memory lane to connect to this phrase by the late Jackie Gleason, “And Away We Go.” Our destination was the Chicago Navy Pier for the Lunch Gospel Cruise.

As we pulled away from the Church, New B Minister Gloria Ellis led us in prayer honoring and praising God for a safe trip and the opportunity to fellowship with one another.

This was not your normal “run of the mill” bus trip because we were entertained with the “Motown 25 Yesterday, Today, and Forever” DVD that really had us singing, laughing, and reminiscing about the time when the Motown sound was “real music.”

We were so awesome singing along with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and other Motown artists that we could have auditioned and won America’s Got Talent!

But our experience didn’t end there.

As we boarded the Spirit Cruise Ship, we were eagerly greeted by the cruise staff, escorted to our tables and the lunch buffet area. During the two-hour cruise, we were entertained with Tecora Rogers and the Chicago Spirituals

who blessed us with gospel hymns including “Down by the Riverside.” One of greatest highlights of the afternoon was the invitation for all choir members from various church groups to join Tecora Rogers and the Chicago Spirituals for a group concert which was awesome. Also the guests were invited to showcase their dance moves with the Wobble and Electric Slide. Rounding off the day was a quick visit to Garrett’s Popcorn Shop.

One of our guests stated that this experience had her smiling on the inside like a little kid. This experience reminded me of a Master Card commercial: Total cost of trip, $90; Fellowship and Laughter, PRICELESS.

D

id you know in Indianapolis 1 in 5 people are living in poverty? Did you know 1 in 3 people are actually homeless, right here in our own city? This was my first time working with the New Beginnings Homeless Outreach program, as was other volunteers. I saw things that made those statistics real. Matthew 8:20 - And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Jesus was a homeless man too, who needed and deserved the love and compassion from his brothers and sisters. We made three stops in our outreach assignment, the Men’s Shelter, areas by the White River, and the Military Park downtown. We were able to give back and serve God’s people by spreading the gospel, providing prayer, clothing, hygiene items and sack lunches.

Our first stop was the alley behind the Men’s shelter. As more than 50 men came out to receive the items we offered, we got a chance to meet with them. Some wanted prayer, some just needed food and hygiene, while some just wanted someone to talk to them like normal human beings. While there I got an opportunity to meet New B member, Jamanique Best-Isiwele, who has been involved at least six times. I asked her why she kept coming back and what did this do for her as a person.

Her response was “I know I’m fulfilling scripture, taking care of the people and being obedient to God. Seeing how grateful everyone is, I enjoy

being an evangelist. It’s a privilege to show love and receive love.” Her words and stories she shared really inspired me the rest of the day.

Our second stop was along the white river. This stop is when the reality set in. As we pulled up alongside a building, the first timers were wondering where all the people were. When we made a complete stop, that’s when we saw the people and families living in tents in the woods. They came out to receive the items we could provide and to receive prayer. One woman had been out there for a while with her dog, while another woman, who was pregnant and in a wheel chair who said this would be her second Friday as she counted the Fridays. This makes me think, “what is Indianapolis as a city doing to help those who are homeless?”

Our last stop was in the heart of downtown at Military Park. We met a lot of different types of people there, a lot who were just needing food, prayer and encouragement.

There was a big circle of prayer led

by Minister Robert Jones, who really touched and lifted everyone there. It was amazing that we, as a church, were able to bless them. We finally ran out of the 120 prepared sack lunches and ended our morning outreach.

As we ended our day back at New Beginnings, we got a chance to share with one another on how we felt about the experiences of the day. We felt it was a humbling experience, you see people who are going through so much yet can still smile and be happy in life. No matter what their circumstances are, still have the power and the word of God. It was nice to see that there were some who felt it was not about being blessed by tangible items; it’s about being blessed because He says we’re blessed.

The Homeless Outreach is a welcoming group and all are encouraged to join us as we spread the love and warmth of God on our next outreach ministry on August 22, 2015.

The youth are more than welcome, as well as men and women. Pastor Alexia Ellis collects donations of hygiene products all the time and they can be left at the church’s administration table on Sundays after service. You can also donate money that will be used for food to prepare the sack lunches, which is much needed.

aturday, April 18, it was a beautiful day in Indianapolis!

New Beginnings Fellowship Church had 50 participants sign up for the 24th Annual Susan G. Komen Central Indiana Race for the Cure breast cancer walk. It was more than just a race. Hosted at the historic Military Park in downtown Indianapolis, there were thousands of people including volunteers, families, participants, donors and survivors!

Speaking of survivors, New Beginnings had their own survivor of 6 years, Ms. Carmen Woods. During the walk, I got to speak with Carmen and get to know her a little better.

I asked Carmen what it meant to a survivor such as herself, to be participating in such an important event.

She responded by saying, “Being a six year survivor, it means a lot to be out here supporting people that

can’t be here. I know when I was unable to be out here, there were people participating for me. It’s fun exercising around good people. I have been here rain or shine, hot or cold and I will continue to be here in the future.” Obviously for survivors of breast cancer, a 5k/3.1 miles walk/run, is no major challenge! It’s such an important and close matter to their hearts and lives that it gives them joy and pleasure, showing support and being able to connect with other survivors and supporters!

There were many participants involved, that weren’t on the survivors list. Participants such as Krystyn Phillips and myself, who have had family and friends that have been affected by this disease, walk to show their support. I asked Krystyn why walking in the race was so important to her and why she

had been participating in the previous years. Krystyn’s words were, “It has run in my family since my great grandmother. Ever since I found out, breast cancer is genetic in my family, it’s been important to me. My aunt is a five year survivor. I need to show support, raise money, educate people, and help the cause as much as I can. I make sure as a church we get together to show our support as well. Plus, pink is my favorite color!

My plans are to walk in breast cancer events in any state my family lives in. I plan on walking in Detroit, Michigan in their May race and making it to St. Louis this year.”

There were an estimated 15,000 people cheering in the streets of downtown Indianapolis, and it’s amazing that as a church, New Beginnings was able to help show their support and raise awareness!

ew Beginnings Fellowship Church’s Girl Scouts troupe has been recently recognized for several accomplishments. First they were recognized for winning the best tasting lemonade for the annual Lemonade Day event. The troupe then went on to be recognized for their participation in the Retiring Flags Ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial.

The Lemonade Day event is an annual event meant to teach the principles of entrepreneurship and community by encouraging children to build their own lemonade stands and give proceeds from sales to worthy causes. “There was a contest for the best tasting lemonade. We participated and won first place for our lemonade, sparkling black cherry. That’s how all the attention first started,” said Marjorie Darden, New B’s Girl Scouts troupe leader since 2012.

Ms. Darden went on to say that all the effort for the win was due entirely to the girls of her troupe.

“They did everything. They made samples and had taste tests. Then among them, they chose the one they liked the best.”

Then the New B troupe was invited to participate in the Retiring of Flags Ceremony where old flags were properly retired, and at a later ceremony new flags were given out in their place. “The girls were really enjoying being on TV three times in one month,” Ms. Darden shares with a laugh. “What made

me proud and the main thing I saw in my girls is that it definitely showed them that they could do things that they set their goals to, and that raised their self esteem.”

With three generations of Girl Scouts in her own family, Ms. Darden has been a part of Girl Scouts most of her life and knows the importance of the Girl Scouts and the impact it has on its members. “When I was a child, my mom was my [troupe] leader; and now, I have two daughters’, and I have been their leader.” She credits Girl Scouts for bringing girls together and showing them how to work together to accomplish common goals. “Girl Scouts is really about community and learning how to achieve common goals through individual and group efforts.”

Ms. Darden points out that you do not have to be a member of New B to become a member of her troupe. But, one of the things she appreciates about Girl Scout’s is that you can “incorporate growing in Christ.”

To the question of how she garners so much parental participation: “When the girls sign up, we ask the moms to sign up too. We even have dads who participate, and that helps the kids to see their parents involved.”

Mother's Breakfast

T

he New B Kids Ministry hosted the Mother’s Breakfast on Saturday, May 30th at New Beginnings East.

It started as a way to pour into not only the kids at New B, but a way to show love to the parents as well.

“We were always seeing things for the teens, but I thought, what about our babies,” said Sharon Jenkins, Facilitator of New B Kids.

With plenty of volunteers to serve, mothers and children were met with love, kindness, and a hot breakfast catered by Ms. Vickie Massey of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was a time for parents to connect with their children and fellowship with other parents. Volunteers were so attentive to the parents and children, everyone felt the love that was poured out.

After our bodies were fed, it was time for our spirits to be fed with an encouraging Word from the Lord. Minister Patricia Gil-

bert ministered to the parents from Deuteronomy 6:1-3; 7-9; 20-25, encouraging parents to teach our children the commands of the Lord. “Before you can teach it to them, you have

to know it,” explained Minister Gilbert.

After a word of encouragement from our speaker, everyone broke off in groups to participate in crafts, games, and a photo booth. Everyone enjoyed participating in the activities.

One New B kid shared that his favorite part of the morning was

“doing crafts with his Mom.” I think everyone’s favorite activity was the photo booth. Parents, children, and even some volunteers adorned themselves with glasses, crowns, and held funny signs.

It was a great time for parents and kids and a wonderful way for the ministry to show love to the mother’s of New B Kids. But it’s not stopping there. New B Kids have great things planned for this year. “We need more for our kids.

We have Vacation Bible School (VBS) ...but we need more,” said Sharon.

In addition to VBS this month, New B Kids will have a STEM Camp, a “Case for Christ for Kids” Bible Study, and a new curriculum in the upcoming months. They’re also planning workshops for parents of foster children and parents of special needs children. We’re still growing!
