Three years after being placed on the state Legislative Audit Committee’s watch list, Arcadia’s finances have rebounded in a big way according to the results of its most
recent audit. Daniel Anderson, representing the auditing firm of Mauldin and Jenkins, briefed the City Council on the fiscal year 2013-14 audit, and complimented the city for its fiscal responsibility in recent years. “The last two years you have
had revenues in excess of expenditures, so that’s something to be proud of,” he said. “You’ve also closed the gap of the ratio of your fund balance and expenditures. The wider the gap, the less leverage the city has entering into a new budget year. At the end of fiscal
year 2014 the fund balance was 34 percent of expenditures in the general fund, which is extremely good for this city.” Anderson said the firm did have two recommendations for the city, one dealing with cash
