EDITOR’S NOTE

Esteemed Readers, Greetings!

In May 2023, our esteemed Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi ji, inaugurated an event commemorating Indian accomplishments and selfreliance, signifying the successful culmination of the revitalization of Central Vista Avenue in New Delhi. The featured article by our revered Chief Editor, Bangalore Niranjan Babu, sheds light on the underlying energy behind India’s New Parliament Building as per the principles of Vastu and Muhurtha. Jayanth Agasthya’s piece on the same subject elaborates on how the propitious muhurta of the new Parliament House foretells both challenges and triumphs, with planetary alignments favoring success. It explores the influential placement of Saturn, offering a glimmer of hope for governments that uphold righteousness.

Archna Murthy’s monthly series on Vedic Astrology 101 highlights the contributions of Varahamihira to the field of Vedic Astrology. She opines that Varahamihira’s impact was so profound that it divided the timeline of Jyothish Shastram into the periods before and after Varahamihira. Like a shooting star, his brilliance forever transformed this ancient scienc e, leaving an enduring legacy in its wake. We are sure this read will inspire you of Varahamihira’s contributions and vision.

This issue presents the final installment of the series Metamorphosis: How to Analyze Spiritual Transformation by Dr. Nemani Venkata Raghunatha Rao, in which he examines the charts of highly spiritual individuals and explains the principles to consider in discerning the spiritual progression of an individual. While many of our clients seek guidance on earthly matters such as education, marriage, and other concerns, as learned astrologers, it is our additional duty to guide them towards the path of spiritual awakening.

Despite the changing times, certain life events such as marriage are best undertaken at the optimal moment. In predictive astrology,

Kedar Nath Manapragada delves into the subject of understanding and delineating the time of marriage He shares various methods used to determine the right time for marriage, discussing the importance of comprehending planetary influences and their corresponding dasa periods in determining the timing of events.

Advancing the exploration and intricacies of astrological houses, Professor N. S. Murthy introduces the 12th house, widely acknowledged as Vyayasthana. This house represents aspects such as loss, decline, isolation, liberation, Moksha (the ultimate state of emancipation), transcendence into the afterlife, and detachment. He elucidates the intricate interplay of various planetary configurations within this house and their profound ramifications on individuals.

In the realm of mundane astrology, Dr. Phaniraj M. Shastry reveals the celestial threats that we will witness in 2023. Through the study of various charts, he provides a list of countries that are likely to be affected by these celestial patterns. He opines that since the reminder of 2023 will witness two eclipses: a Solar Eclipse on October 14th and a Lunar Eclipse on October 28th, it is likely to contribute to disturbances and potentially fuel war situations. Remain vigilant and utilize this information for preventing or preparing for adverse situations.

The culmination of our magazine includes the customary monthly offerings, which entail prognostications tailored to your respective Moon sign, a comprehensive Ephemeris, and a meticulously curated Calendar for the upcoming month of July. SECRETS EXPOSED: THE HIDDEN ENERGY IN INDIA’S NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDING

On the special day of 28th of May, 2023, at precisely 11:30 in the morning, the Prime Minister, as the embodiment of rationality and free will, graced the event with his presence, marking the official inauguration. It was a celebration of human achievement, where the values of self-reliance and the pursuit of excellence were honored and embraced.

In the heart of New Delhi, a visionary plan took shape in the fall of 2019—an audacious endeavor to breathe new life into the historic Central Vista Avenue. It was a plan that echoed the spirit of adventure, a quest for revitalization and progress. The conception of the master plan for the construction of the New Parliament building occurred in September 2019, as a visionary undertaking to revitalize the Central Vista Avenue in New Delhi. In December of that year, Honourable Prime Minister Sri Modi, embodying the spirit of self-reliance and progress, laid the foundation stone for the New Parliament building, symbolizing the triumph of human ingenuity and ambition. The resolute efforts of the construction team were crowned with success in May 2023, a testament to the power of purpose and determination of the new India.

At the time of the inauguration, the zodiac sign Leo was rising, with its lord, the Sun and the king of planets, well-placed in the 10th house. The Moon, the queen of planets, was in the 12th house, which can also be interpreted as the 11th house from the 2nd house of family and finance. However, Guru Chandala Yoga (GCY) was in effect, with both the planets Jupiter (the preceptor) and Rahu (the mleccha) in close conjunction at almost the same degree on that date. This GCY occurred in the 9th house of Dharmasthana (godliness, righteousness, teacher, philosophy, science and literature, fame, leadership). The chart also indicates that at that time, the lord of the 9th house Mars (the commander in chief), who is also the yogakaraka (being lord of a Kendra and a Kona), was in debilitation in the 12th house of loss.

Role of Tapaswi Yoga

Twenty parties opposed the inauguration of the new Parliament building. They opposed the inauguration on the grounds that it was a violation of the Constitution, as the President of India is the only person who has the authority to inaugurate a new Parliament building.

MUHURTHA

MUHURTA OF THE NEW PARLIAMENT OF INDIA BUILDING INAUGURATION – GOOD OR BAD?

Dr. Jayant Agasthya is a qualified Company Secretary and has worked in several multinationals. He learnt Jyotisha under late Prof. M. K. Ramachandra and Dr. K. N. Ravi and has been practicing for the past 25 years. He completed his thesis on “Vimshamsha – understanding spiritual journey through horoscope” under the guidance of Dr. Prof. N. S. Murthy. He has also published articles on Soundaryalahari in Vijaya Karnataka newspaper.

In simple terms, the word muhurta indicates a unit of time. Vedas, especially Taittiriya Brahmana, lists out 15 muhurtas viz., saṁjñānaṁ, vijñānaṁ, prajñānaṁ, jānad, abhijānat, saṁkalpamānaṁ, prakalpamānam, upakalpamānam, upakṁptaṁ, kṁptam, śreyo, vasīya, āyat, saṁbhūtaṁ, bhūtam. It further goes on to state that a muhurta is 1/30th part of the day, which translates to 48 minutes, in layman terms.

It is a well-known fact that people who want to achieve success in their endeavours choose the right time / particular time of the day to commence their activities. They approach the astrologer and based on the astrologer’s guidance, commence the respective work. There are muhurtas that give good results as well as bad results. Hence, understanding the concept of muhurta and prescribing a correct time in the day to commence an auspicious work becomes very critical.

India achieved Her freedom at 00.00 hours on 15th August 1947 at New Delhi. From this day onwards, there have been numerous governments till date with many people who have held various positions. However, the common factor in all these governments and the bureaucrats is the Indian Parliament house. The old Parliament house was in use from January 1927 till May 2023 and as we all know, the new Parliament house was officially inaugurated and opened on 28th May 2023. As per the official Government notifications, the festivities started at 7.30 AM in New Delhi.

Some people opine that the muhurta for the purpose of analysis must be the time when it was officially inaugurated and opened for the public – i.e., 12 noon. Some other say that the muhurta should be the time when the Raja-Danda or Sengol was installed in the Parliament house. However, all learned astrologers are unequivocal that the muhurta of the new Parliament

building is the time when the rituals started on the morning of 28th May 2023, i.e., 7.30 AM. Reason being, this is very similar to a common man doing a Gruhapravesha where the yajamana & yajamani of the house enter the house (according to their respective traditions) in the muhurta given on a particular date after the necessary cleansing rituals (Vastu homa, Rakshoghna homa etc.,) are done the previous day

Let us now understand the inherent strength and weakness of the muhurta from an astrological angle. Chart of the new Parliament building inauguration: 28th May 2023 @ 7.30 AM in New Delhi.

Basic details:

Rising lagna is Mithuna – a dual sign, and lagna is in Rahu’s nakshatra. Sukra, lord of 5th and 12th house is placed in lagna in Guru’s nakshatra. Lagna lord Budha is in the 11th house with Guru and Rahu. Budha though is in his enemy – Kuja’s house, he is placed in Sukra’s nakshatra. Budha is inherently weak in Mesha rasi and Bharani nakshatra. For a major event to be successful in the long run, a strong lagna lord is essential, which is not so in this scenario.

This article is a continuation of the Part-1 & Part-2 articles I wrote earlier. In this article, we will take some more spiritually advanced souls as an example chart to understand how the principles we have discussed earlier reveal the secrets of spiritual transformation through Jyotisha/Astrology.

Principles:

1. The 3rd House is the key house, which will indicate whether the native can alter the Karma

2. The 4th House indicates Karma performing Location

3. The 10th House (Opposite to 4th) indicates the Karma balance

4. Saturn’s aspect on the above plus Moon & Lagna are important

After pursuing further studies in medical Astrology he wrote a paper on CHILDLESSNESS - fifth bhava in Astrology and was conferred Doctorate in Vedic Astrology from Open University of alternative medicines, Colombo, Srilanka, in 2011, with an able guidance from Dr. Prabhakar Kashyap, his guru and mentor from SCOPE Bangalore.

As we observe from the chart of June 17, 2023, at 11:55 PM, Bengaluru, Shani Maharaj has started moving in the Retro direction. This implies that Saturn’s connection to Mars sitting on Cancer leads to the triggering of disturbances in Nature as well as War preparedness.

Since Saturn is in the West direction house presently, when he takes Retro motion, his direction changes to the Southern direction and he aspects Mars who is in the Northern direction, which we can interpret as meaning that the South Western countries will be more affected when this connection between Saturn and Mars begins.

It is the house of loss, decline, isolation, liberation, Moksha (final emancipation) & life after death. It is also the house of detachment. 12th house follows the house of Labha (11th Bhava). Ketu is popularly known as the karaka for 12th house as this is the house of Moksha

In another school of thought, Shani is also considered the karaka for 12th house.

12th House indicates

• Expenditure, Journeys

Sun Combinations in 12th House

If this Sun conjoins a malefic then wasteful expenditure leads to poverty, life in places far from birth.

Strong lord of the 12th house gives occult / psychic powers & pleasure from spouse. If the lord of the 6th joins then the native suffers from leprosy. But if Sun is well aspected or conjoins benefic then the native escapes from it but is depraved & suffers from various physical ailments.

If Sun is afflicted then it indicates imprisonment, is eccentric with uncommon tastes and inclinations.

If Sun is afflicted by Mars or Saturn then life will be full of sorrow and suffering.

If Sun is well aspected by Jupiter or Saturn then the native will be capable of self- sacrifice and endurance.

If Sun is in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius then it makes the native miserly, unscrupulous, proud, unfortunate, trouble through persons in authority & death of loved ones.

If Sun is in Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn then the native gives value to ends, has endurance, reputation, independent, money minded & rational. It also indicates occult & psychic tendencies, gain through secret enemies but misfortune in marriage and love affairs.

If Sun is in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius then the native is extravagant, reputed in own society, misfortunes through relatives & from travel, separation & ill-health.

PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY

UNDERSTANDING THE TIMING OF MARRIAGE

Works as VFX Supervisor in Canada and has worked on several Hollywood movies. His passion in astrology grew exponentially 4 years ago and started learning it deeply. Since then, he is working on a framework to find out the accurate timing of any event. He asks himself questions till he gets satisfactory answers to the predictive methodology.

There are several ways people follow to find the timing of marriage. While learning astrology, I found that the approach is important to predicting anything. In D-1, we find so many possibilities and Yogas, but they always happen in a specific time, and nothing is effective throughout the life from birth, but everything delivers its results in favourable time. Here, we are trying to find the timing of marriage.

Nature delivers its results through planets at a particular time. To time any event, we need to understand who can deliver it to us and the timing of it will be when the Dasa of those planets are running. To time the marriage, I follow below process.

1. Whether it is delayed or normal based on geographical location

2. Which planets can deliver the marriage to the native

3. Transit of Jupiter over D-1 and Saturn over Navamsa

For marriage, I consider the 7th house and the 11th house (fulfillment of desire) to be very important. Few people consider 4th, and few consider 2nd as well, but I found these are less important. Venus is karaka for marriage in males and Mars in females.

We need to find out if any malefic planets are affecting the 7th house. Mars is the main planet that delays the marriage. If Mars is placed in the 1st or 7th, then chances are it will be a delayed marriage. Again, we need to consider the geographical location to understand, what is early in one place may be late in another place or country. Jupiter aspect on the 7th house is always beneficial even if there are malefic

planets placed. Jupiter or Saturn in 7th house may delay marriage, but this is not always the case. Then we need to find out which of the planets are responsible for delivering marriage. As mentioned above, the 7th and the 11th are key houses for marriage. Below is the way to find out the planets who can deliver marriage.

• Owner of A7 (Arudha of 7th house)

• Find the planets in the nakshatras of owner of the 7th house and planets in the 7th house.

• Rahu and Venus also can give marriage.

Marriage will happen only in the dasas of planets that can deliver marriage. Here, the possibilities of timing will be more or less based on the number of planets capable of delivery.

Marriage cannot happen without the help of Jupiter and Saturn in transit. There are different places in transits people look at like aspecting the 7th house, 7th lord etc in D-1 but I found that the aspect of Jupiter on the point of lagna longitude + 7th lord placement works more closely. While checking the transit, we need to check the nakshatra in which Jupiter is placed. If the nakshatra is in two rashis then we can consider aspects of Jupiter from both houses. To narrow down further we can consider the aspects of Saturn on the 7th house in navamsa.

After checking the above points closely and trying to align them, we come up with 2-3 strong timing possibilities of marriage. By refining the above methodology further, we can narrow down the dates of marriage, but I found that in 80-90 % of charts ,it is within 2 months of predicted time.

VARAHAMIHIRA AND EVOLUTION OF ASTROLOGY

Dr. S. Archna Murthy is an Astrology Consultant with a PhD (Astrology), M.A (Astrology), M.A Bridge (Astrology in Sanskrit), M.B.A (Singapore), Kovida (Sanskrit) & 18 years of Corporate Experience. She also spreads awareness about Astrology through her YouTube channel ‘Jyotish Shastrm (AstroScience) - Our Legacy’ (57 videos) https://www.facebook.com/JyotishShaastram

Welcome to this monthly series where you will learn the fundamentals of Astrology in a structured manner. In the previous month’s issue of The Astrological eMagazine (July 2023) 8 prominent Astrologers who inspired Varahamihira were covered.

In this article, we will focus on Varahamihira, the Father of Modern Jyotish Shastram and how Vedic Astrology evolved over centuries.

In any field in history, there are always a few select personalities who make a profound impact, act as a catalyst & boost the development & the popularity of the subject itself. Varahamihira was one such scholar who accelerated the growth of Jyotish Shastram. So much so that we divide the timeline of Jyotish Shastram as Pre & Post Varahamihira period.

VARAHAMIHIRA

INTRODUCTION:

Varahamihira was an Astronomer, a Jyotisha Daivagna and a Mathematician from the 6th Century. He introduces himself in this verse.

He was born in Kapittha, a place near Ujjain in M.P. He is believed to be blessed by Sun God as he and his family were into Surya Upasana.

His father’s name was Adityadasa which means one who serves the Sun & his own name, Mihira, is another name for Surya. He paid homage to Surya in almost all his works. Sage Bhattotpala considered Varahamihira as an incarnation of Surya.

Varahamihira was from the period 505 CE to 587 CE. He was well known as one of the Navaratnas in the court of Vikramaditya as mentioned in this verse.

The Navaratnas are experts in their fields who embellish a King’s court. In the court of Vikramaditya, the following were considered as Navaratnas - Dhanvantari (Ayurveda), Kshapanaka (Jyotisha expert), Amarasimha the author of Amarakosha (Amarakosha is one of the first Sanskrit dictionaries that listed the word along with its gender & synonyms), Sri Sanku (Architect), Betala Bhatta (Mantra Shastra expert), Ghatakarpara (Poet), Mahakavi Kalidasa, Varahamihira & Vararuchi/ Katyayana (Sanskrit scholar & Grammarian). It is interesting to note that all 9 of them were not contemporaries in the court of Vikramaditya.

Varahamihira was the first person to identify and write many books in the three divisions of Vedic Astrology (Sidhantha, Hora & Samhita). He was a master of Sanskrit grammar and presented his ideas with a poetic style. He lists his works in this verse.

As per this verse, he gave details of Karana Grantha in Pancha Sidhanthika, of retrograde and direct motions of the several (non-luminous) planets from Mars onwards, their disappearance (eclipse) through proximity to the Sun, and their reappearance after conjunction with the Sun, their state of being at planetary fight. Vedic Building and Design Practices for Harmony and Success | Handbook of Vastu, Vol. 3

The ancient Vedic science of Vastu, the art of building placement, layout and design, embodies universal principles that apply the secrets of energetic flow in the creation of harmonious environments. The value of this science is evidenced by the many ancient structures that have withstood the ravages of time and natural disasters. The benefits of Vastu are conveyed to those who live, work and visit structures and gardens created in respect to the directional influences of the earth.  The ancients believed that the wellness and harmony of entire communities depended on the proper planning of a development. When the principles of Vastu are not followed, strife in business, family and social structure are the result. Modern building practices must include Vastu to enable the positive energies necessary for the well-being and harmony of those who occupy the space.

Vastu Relevance to Modern Times provides simple, effective ways to design or enhance any space, whether a home, apartment, office, store, factory, place of worship, park or garden. Applying these principles invites the flow of positive influences, creating environments to support growth, success, love and harmony of the occupants.
