THE O’NEILL SISTERS FEATURED ON OFFICIAL ALBUM FOR POPE FRANCIS “Oceans” is the newest single from North Kerry’s very own singing sensations ‘The O’Neill Sisters’ and the first release off the Album ‘An Irish Welcome - A Musical Celebration - Pope Francis - Ireland 2018.’

This album has been especially compiled by Dolphin Music Group to celebrate the visit of Pope Francis upcoming visit to Ireland. It’s a unique 2 CD collection including songs from some of Ireland’s top musical acts including Finbar Wright, Celtic Woman, Red Hurley, The Priests and of course The O’Neill Sisters.

“We are so honoured to not only have been chosen to be featured for this special album for the Pope’s visit but also to have our song Oceans released as the main single” Naomi said. “To be able to lend our voices to this momentous occasion is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The O’Neill Sisters filmed the ‘Oceans’ music video recently on none other than Ballyheigue Beach wearing international fashion designer Don O’Neills Theia dresses.

Don, a Ballyheigue native, was over the moon when he heard that they were filming the song on this home beach that practically meets the front door of his childhood home.

The song “Oceans” (where feet may fail) is a cover by Hillside United that spent 61 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the billboard Christian songs chart.

There are 32 songs on the album “An Irish Welcome” based around hope, love and compassion that are sure stay with you forever and be a fitting welcome for the Pope’s visit.

New Guidebook Launched for North Kerry Way Walking Route A new walking guide for the North Kerry Way between Tralee and Ballyheigue has been designed and produced by Kerry County Council. The guide focuses on the attractions of the popular walking route and represents the realisation of an objective in the County Kerry Tourism Strategy and Action Plan.

The new guidebook which was launched by the outgoing Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District, Cllr John Lucid, serves as a companion on the walking route and identifies places of interest. The route takes in Tralee, Blennerville, The Spa, Fenit, Churchill, Barrow, Banna, and Ballyheigue. The guide was designed and produced in-house by Kerry County Council’s Tourism Unit with the support of the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme and with the assistance of the North Kerry Way Committee.

‘This guide is a very useful and informative addition to tourism guidebooks in the county. Our Tourism Strategy included a commitment to publish a guide focussing on the North Kerry Way and I am pleased to see that coming to fruition,’ said Joan McCarthy, Head of Tourism at Kerry County Council.

‘We are acutely aware of the interest in and growth of walking tourism and it is vital that we have informative and attractive guidebooks for those looking to explore Kerry’s beauty on foot. The guidebook is being distributed to outlets along the route and is available from tourist offices, Kerry County Council offices and local outlets,’ said Joan.

The 25th year of the Dawn Milk Ladies Day at the Killarney Races promises to be action packed both on and off the track with a host of celebrities attending on Thursday, July 19th. The style stakes are high this year with celebrity couple Una Healy and Ben Foden travelling from the UK to judge the fashion categories. The Best Dressed Lady will win a trip for two to Paris and a specially commissioned crystal vase. The Best Dressed Gent will receive a Trip to Milan for two and a specially commissioned crystal decanter.

Speaking at the launch of the Dawn Milk Ladies Day 2018 Una Healy mentioned “We were delighted when asked to be guest judges for the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gent at this year’s Dawn Milk Ladies Day at the Killarney Races. We are really looking forward to a day out at the races and very honoured to be part of this glamours event. Ben is hugely into his racing and I’m even more excited to see all the style that will be on display.”

The Dawn Milk Ladies Day at Killarney’s five day racing festival in July is renowned across the country as one of the most prestigious ladies day events on the fashion calendar in Ireland. A total of ten ladies and ten gents will be selected as finalists by the judges. Ladies and gents are advised to arrive early as Una Healy and Ben Foden will be selecting finalists on the race course from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

John B. Keane 90th Anniversary Celebration A packed programme of events will take place from Thursday July 19th to Saturday July 21st to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of John B. Keane, one of Listowel and Kerry’s great literary figures. The event is being organised by Seanchai – Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel as part of its ongoing programme of activities to honour and celebrate Kerry writers.

Events kick off on Thursday July 19th with an evening of Pub Theatre at John B. Keanes Bar from 9.30pm, hosted by the inimitable Billy Keane. A keynote address on John B. Keane will be given by theatre critic and Irish Times columnist Fintan O’Toole in The Seanchai on Friday July 20th at 8pm.

O’Toole has described Keane’s first play Sive as “a mix of melodrama and myth that was a cocktail so powerful it blew the head off a country that was tired of a stifling orthodoxy”. Local historian Vincent Carmody will lead a literary walk through Listowel on Saturday morning starting from the Seanchai at 9.30am. The walk entitled ‘From the Cradle to the Grave’ will visit locations throughout Listowel connected with John B. Keane including his famous pub on Church Street and St. Michael’s College.

Seanchai – Kerry Writers’ Museum will host a special exhibition including photographs and memorabilia from its collection. The exhibition will be launched by Conor Keane at 2.30pm. “We are currently in the process of developing this exhibition and we are seeking photographs from members of the public to be included, in particular those of a more personal nature” said Cara Trant, manager of the Museum. “If people would like to contribute their photographs just dropped them in to our reception and we will scan and return them safely to donors”.

Friends and family of John B. Keane will gather in The Seanchai on Saturday at 3.30pm to reflect on his life and work in an afternoon of stories, readings and performances. The weekend will culminate with a performance by Corofin Drama Society of their award winning production of Big Maggie, one of John B. Keane’s most popular plays, at St. John’s Theatre, Listowel on Saturday July 21st at 8 pm.

Set in 1960s rural Ireland, Big Maggie is a compelling portrait of a woman who is determined to create a better life for herself and her children following the death of her husband. However, problems arise when her vision of the future begins to sit with increasing discomfort on the shoulders of her offspring. John B. Keane’s wonderful creation of a rural Irish matriarch ranks with Juno, Mommo and Molly Bloom as one of the great female creations of twentieth-century Irish literature. Tickets can be booked directly with St. Johns.

Other events taking place over the 3 day programme include ‘Living Literature’ tours of Kerry Writers’ Museum and a screening of the acclaimed ‘Rivers of Words’ documentary on John B. Keane. “As a Museum that honours the works and lives of our North Kerry writers, we would like to thank the Keane family for allowing us to celebrate this special anniversary of one of our greatest writers” said Cara.

“It is particularly significant this year as the Museum has just been awarded full accreditation under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland”.

Kerry County Council to apply for Planning for Greenway – Cllr. Moloney Listowel Councilor Jimmy Moloney has welcomed the decision by Kerry County Council to apply for planning to extend the Great Southern Greenway from the Limerick County bounds to Listowel. The suggested 9km route will now be open for observation before the matter is voted on by councilors in September.

Speaking about the decision, Councilor Moloney stated that "this is most welcome news. The campaign to bring the Great Southern Greenway to Listowel and beyond has taken many years but finally we have reached a position where funding can be applied for. The successes of the Great Western Greenway and the Waterford Greenway, which has attracted 250,000 visitors in its first year, demonstrate the potential economic benefits such facilities bring to an area while also providing local residents with another safe, recreational amenity. The government has committed over €50 million in funding for greenway development and we intend to submit a request to procure the necessary funds when the application opens in the latter half of 2018.”

BALLyBUNION RECEIvES A DEFIBRILLATOR A Defibrillator for Ballybunion Beach has been purchased from proceeds of fundraising by Kerry Motorbike Training School and Kerry Surf Lifesaving.

The unit was partly purchased as a result of an Annual Fundraising event, which the Motorbike Training School has been organising for the past 11 years. All funds raised annually, benefit local charities and voluntary groups. This year Ger and a group of 5 motorcycling friends travelled around the coast of Ireland and visited all our lighthouses on the way. One of the lighthouses visited was on Tory Island off the Donegal Coast, where the group were welcomed to the island by ‘The King of Tory' Patsy Dan Rodgers. Included in the photo are volunteer members of Ballybunion Surf Lifesavers and group instructor, Leo Hilliard, also a keen motorcyclist, who took part in the motorcycle event. Kerry Surf Lifesaving also held a fundraising BBQ and sold loom bands.

Listowel Museum Achieves Top National Award Seanchaí – Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel joined an exclusive club in Kerry on Tuesday July 10th when it received an award for Full Museum Accreditation under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland, at a special ceremony in Kilkenny Castle. Seanchaí is one of four museums in Kerry who have now attained this accolade with Muckross House, Kerry County Museum and Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne. Only 32 other museums nationally have achieved all the standards.

Established by the Heritage Council in 2006 to benchmark and promote professional standards in the care of collections, the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI) has attracted involvement across the cultural spectrum, from national institutions to small, volunteer-led organisations. While recognising the achievement of standards through accreditation, the MSPI is also about supporting the museum community as a whole. Its participants engage in a range of processes, which help to secure Ireland’s collections for future generations and to engage its visitors with what those collections have to offer.

Seanchaí – Kerry Writers’ Museum joined the Programme in 2013 and has worked tirelessly over the past five years to meet the 34 standards, including caring for the collection, safeguarding the collection, exhibition & education policies and visitor care and access. It achieved interim accreditation in 2017, having met 25 standards, and has now completed work on the remaining 9 standards to achieve full accreditation.

The mission of Seanchaí – Kerry Writers’ Museum is to collect, safeguard, hold in trust, display and interpret a variety of material and objects relating to the rich literary, cultural, social & political heritage of Listowel & North Kerry. It provides research opportunities and educational & cultural activities for the local community, students and its many visitors. The Museum has been collecting objects and material since it opened in 2001 & has amassed a collection of over 1,200 objects, some of which can be viewed in the writers’ rooms as part of the Museum tour.

CROTTA LEISURE CYCLISTS Congratulations to the 30 plus members of our local cycling who took part in the Annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle of 112 miles recently. On a beautiful sunny day with a nicer cooling breeze everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable day. There is a tremendous sense of achievement on having completed the 112 miles especially for the four members who were doing it the first time. It is estimated that up to 7,000 cyclists took part in total which makes it the biggest charity cycle in the country. It is a wonderfully organised and stewarded event with over 1,100 volunteers on duty during the day.

DEATHS There was a profound sense of sadness and regret when the news came through last Thursday 5 July of the death of Tommy Bridgeman, Ballyconry and Tarbert. Tommy, aged 60 died after a long battle with cancer. In compliance with his wishes his wife and family requested a private funeral service. As the early morning funeral cortege arrived in Tarbert on its way to Cork on Saturday 7 July there was a very large guard of honour provided by former footballers who played with and against him . It was testimony to his ability and popularity that former members of Tarbert, Shannon Rangers, Listowel Emmets, Kerry Minor and U-21 teams as well as friends and neighbours came together to bid him a final slán abhaile. A stylish, strong and accomplished footballer he played on winning Kerry Minor and U-21 teams in the 1970's. He was one of nine children born to Bill and Mary Bridgeman, St. Patrick's Terrace, Tarbert. He was predeceased by his sister Rose and brother Derry. Sympathy of the community is extended to his wife Margot, daughters Gillian, Eva and April, sisters Ita (Tarbert), Mai, Kara and Helen, brothers Liam and Jim and uncle Tom Mulcare, Tarbert.

Sympathy of the community is also extended to the Columban Fathers, Dealgan Park, Navan on the death of Fr. Dan Canniffe on 28th June last. Fr. Canniffe, who was on loan to the Diocese, ministered in Tarbert in the 1990's for a number of months when the late Fr. John Maher, Parish Priest was undergoing heart surgery. He later served in the parishes of St. John and Our Lady and St. Brendan, Tralee. Descendants of the banished clans of Moores, Devoys, Dees, Dowlings, Dorans, Kellys, Lalors and McEvoys living in Kerry are invited to take part in the weekend. A full programme of events has been organised and if there is sufficient interest Tarbert Historical Society will organise a bus for Saturday 25 August. A WALk TO REMEMBER On Sunday next, 15 July at 1.30pm there will be a walk to remember all lost loved ones on Ballybunion beach. Registration is €5 on the day and all proceeds received will be donated to the Intensive Care Unit, University Hospital .Kerry WINDOW ON THE pAST The recent death of James (Jimmy) O'Sullivan of Newtown, Bantry, Co.Cork brings to mind the epic 1948 Final when Tarbert won the North Kerry Senior Football Championship. They beat St.Patrick's , a combination of Ballyduff and Ballyconry in Ballylongford. In the semi-final played in the Horsepark (Comprehensive School Site) Tarbert defeated a highly fancied B allydonoghue side, a team which included Kerry players such as Eddie Dowling, Gus Cremins and Mick Finucane. The final had been fixed for October and collective training was directed by John Sharkey, a visiting American team coach assisted by Martin Kelly. A strict training regime was imposed. A serious loss to Tarbert was Timmy Enright, an uncle of Shane, who had to go back to college as he was studying for the priesthood and would not be allowed out to play. The team was captained by Henry O'Donnell and included the strong midfield pairing of Michael Sullivan and Jimmy O'Sullivan, no relations. Two minor players were introduced, namely Denis O'Connell and John Coleman who made his debut as a goalkeeper on the team.

With the death of Jimmy O'Sullivan, there are now only three survivors of that winning team of 70 years ago. They are John Coleman, Tarbert, Denis O'Connell, Loughrea and Paudie Dillane, Chicago. Gach eolas ó Tom Buckley's Tarbert book

WALk TO REMEMBER This will be the third year of the Walk to Remember event in Ballybunion. Over past 2 years thousands have been raised for worthy causes, this year is in aid of The Intensive Care Unit of Kerry University Hospital. This has been a very heartwarming event offering people the chance to remember their lost loved ones. Each year the support and feed back have been fantastic. DEATH The death took place of Anne Murphy (née Diggins), Curaheen, Tralee and formerly of the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee and Ferry Road, Ballyduff. Her remains were removed from The Gleasure Funeral Home, Tralee to St. John's Church, Tralee. Burial was in Rath Cemetery, Tralee. Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of the above deceased.

COISTE NA NÓG U10: The U10 hurlers took part in the North Kerry Hurling Board U10 blitz on Saturday morning last. The boys played Ballyheigue, Abbeydorney & Crotta and having won all their games, were crowned winners of the Division 1 blitz. This is a great result for this group of young players, especially as a lot of the players were also involved in winning the U11 league last week. The future of the club is in good hands.

U14: The U14 footballers played Listowel away on Monday evening in the North Kerry League. The Listowel side was struggling with injuries and were missing a number of players, but they still put it up to the Ballyduff side for the opening stretch of the game. However, once Ballyduff got into their stride, they were able to edge comfortably past their opponents. They now have Ballydonoghue to play in the hope of securing a semi-final spot.

U15: The U15 hurlers had a tough loss to Ballyheigue in Ballyheigue on Wednesday night of last week. There is always healthy competition between these two sides and Wednesday's game was no different. Ballyduff lost a player early in the game to injury and battled hard for the remainder of the match, unfortunately they just fell short at the final whistle and lost by a point.

COMING BACk TO THEIR ROOTS Love stories like this are something one would read in a book, or fairytale, but it has happened and it happened here in Bally where an American born couple with the girl having a very strong Ballylongford connection end up travelling here where her boyfriend made an unexpected marriage proposal. The story is one of true romance, travel and the marriage proposal. This all happened on Monday evening of last week (July 2nd) when the happy couple embraced the beautiful surroundings of Carrigafoyle Castle in which Eric Heath whose parents are of English origin made the surprise proposal to Katie Harty who is daughter of Eilish (Née Bambury) formerly of Quay Street, and Katie’s father who formerly hails from Ballybunion. Katie would be granddaughter of the late Michael (Mickey) and Jose Bambury R.I.P. who were drapers and grocers in Quay Street for numerous years. The happy couple had gone to Los Vegas originally for a holiday, but Eric had a surprise for his Bride to be, he booked an unexpected flight to Ireland for a five day holiday for both himself and his future wife to be. He told Katie that the trip was to visit her family relatives in both Ballybunion and Ballylongford. Little did she know of what else was in store, his proposal was top secret and he had sought complete secrecy of his plan to all family members on both sides of the Atlantic. So on that lovely summers evening as the sun faded out over Ballybunion Eric made his proposal at Carrigafoyle in which Katie happily agreed. We have not heard of a date for the nuptials but hopefully they may come back to Ireland to get married. Best of Luck to the both of them and their families.

BEREAVEMENT Sincerest Sympathy is extended to all the family relatives of the late Nora (Minnie) Enright R.I.P. of Main Street, Ballylongford who died on Saturday 7th July last. Minnie as she was more affectionately known was indeed a very good natured, hard working woman with a fabulous sense of humour, who always catered for the needs of others more so than herself. A nurse by profession she indeed came to the rescue of many a patient over the years.

If anything happened to anybody or if somebody met with an accident during the 1960’s and early 70’s it would be the case of rush that patient to Minnie Enright. Indeed she was better than any Doctor in those days and very frequently saved many a person’s loss of limb or life. She was a wonderful caring person who always was a joy to meet and converse with, she was deeply religious and loved going to Church on practically a daily basis. The Local Choir and all things to do with Community Life were top of her agenda, to relax and unwind after a hard week she enjoyed her game of Bingo. Shanagolden on Tuesdays, Ballylongford on Thursdays and Listowel on Sunday nights were her nights at Bingo and a chance to meet up with her many many friends. But in recent years as Shanagolden and Ballylongford seized to operate Bingo, she travelled to Tarbert and Moyvane to keep up her interest.

Minnie’s life was in turmoil when she lost her beloved Paul O’ Sullivan R.I.P. some years back. But she coped until her health began to decline and after her most recent trip to hospital she had to opt for the care of a Nursing Home. Oaklands was her residence for the last few years and it was there on Saturday morning last that she got the call that the good Lord that he needed her upstairs and so we have lost a wonderful woman and friend. Minnie will be sadly missed by her loving brother Teddy (Florida), sister Teresa (New Jersey), sister-inlaw Kathleen (Carrig Lea, Ballybunion), nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends. Minnies body lay in repose at at Lynch's Funeral Home, Ballylongford, on Monday evening last. Requiem Mass on Tuesday, at 11am at St. Michael's Church, Ballylongford. followed by interment at Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford.

Sympathy is also extended to the Family of the late Marie Kissane (née Finucane) of Laraha, Asdee who died on Saturday last July 7th she is pre deceased by her late husband John, deeply regretted by her daughters Elma (Dublin), Margie (Abbeyfeale), Bernadette (Kilrush), Maura (Cork) and Deirdre (Tralee), grandchildren, sons in law, cousins, extended family and a large circle of friends. Removal took place on Sunday evening July 8th from Finucane's Funeral Home, Moyvane to St. Mary's Church, Asdee, Requiem Mass took place on Monday at 11am with Burial afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford. DUAGH/LYRE COMMUNITY GAMES NOTES Munster competition: Last weekend our u12 Skittles team took to the road early for the Munster competition in UL where they were representing Kerry. The competition was in Milford NS and Kerry drew Caherdavin Limerick in the semi finals. The team performed well on the day but lady luck was not on their side and Limerick took the game to progress to the final. Duagh/Lyre received certificates on the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thanks to all the parents and supporters on the day. County Athletics: Day 2: Returning on Sunday the heat was as intense from early morning and with a decision made to relocate to the shade for the day was the best option for our athletes to keep them cool. First out were the U8 boys and girls here we had Kate Sheridan running a storm to win and secure a place in the U8 80m girls final. In the final Kate gave it everything, running very confidently and winning a silver medal which I’m sure will be the first of many. In the u8 boys Liam Galvin finished 2nd in the semi going through to the final running a determined race and winning a bronze medal – the first of many from this young lad. Congratulations to both Kate and Liam on their silverware. In the U8 60m unfortunately Abbie was sick overnight and was unable to partake. In the U12 100m Saoirse Dillon winning her semifinal in style and Eimear Buckley secured 4th for a place in the final. In the final Saoirse led from the front and won the race in style, behind her Eimear was putting in a great battle to the finish line and just outside the placings finishing in 5th. We wish Saoirse the best of luck at National finals and she is no stranger to the National finals, it was an absolute pleasure to watch this girl’s racing style, a talented young lady and one to watch for the future. In the U12 100m boys Oisín O’Regan ran a great race just outside the placings in the semi-finals. In the U14

WEDDING The wedding took place recently of Michael Leahy of Beenanaspug, Athea, son of Tina and John, The Nurseries, to Sheila Enright, daughter of Billy and Mary of Ballylongford. The wedding took place at St. Michael’s Church, Ballylongford with the nuptial ceremony performed by Fr. Pádraig Kennelly. The best man was Conor Leahy and

100m finals Mike Galvin finished 3rd in the semi-final and in the final was outside the placings, Mike is underage again next year, Fearghal Cudlipp finished 5th in the semi-final just narrowly missing out on the finals. In the u12 200m semi-finals Gavin Dillon finished first and through to the finals where he put in an excellent run from the gun and a nerve wrecking finish on the line which saw him take second place and a silver medal, congrats Gavin what a performance over the two days and in age again next year. In the u12 girls 200m Leyra Moriarty ran a great race in the semi-final finishing 4th and getting into the final where she again put in a great performance over the two days and finished 4th securing the certificate. Congratulations Leyra well done. In the U10 hurdles both Cian Dowling and Thomas Cahill took on the hurdles in the semi-finals where Cian finished 3rd and Thomas Cahill 4th both getting through to the finals. In the finals it was so close in the final stages with Cian finishing 5th and Thomas just behind. Great stuff out of both boys over the two days and some achievement as both only had a few practices on the hurdles beforehand. In the boys 600m Luke Sheridan was in great form going into the race considering the heat, Luke ran a smart first 300m tucked in behind and then got out in front and put in a little burst to take on the competition and looked very relaxed. Turning into the final 100m with a hard battle on the home straight Luke finished 3rd, a great run and he should be very proud of his performance. Field events on Sunday: In the U16 discus Caoimhe Harte took part and finished 6th overall. In the shot putt U14 Aoife Bates participated and was just outside the placings. Last events of the day were the relays, the U10 mixed relay finished 4th in their semifinals and in the semi-final ran well to finish 4th overall securing the certificates. Team: Cian Dowling, Tomas Kelly, Thomas Cahill, Lisa McMahon, Asia Fitzgerald and Catherine Buckley. In the U12 boys final the boys ran really well and finished 3rd overall, team: Luke and Ronan Sheridan, Oisín O’Regan, Gavin Dillon, Dylan Buckley and Dylan Stack. In the U12 girls relay, leading out was Aoibhinn Harte handing over to Saoirse Dillon who put in a might run to get the girls into the lead passing to Anghradh Cudlipp and then to Eimear Buckley to take the baton to the finish line. The girl’s finished second overall winning silver medals – team: Aoibhínn Harte, Saoirse Dillon, Anghradh Cudlipp, Eimear Buckley, Leyra Moriarty and Noelle Dillon. Part of the information regarding the history of the Angus breed in this piece was obtained from the book Cattle Breeds in Ireland – A History. From small breeds to the more popular ones, the knowledge in this book for each is highly commendable. The way the 600-page book is put together tells a real story of why Ireland is one of the best cattle-breeding countries in the world.

Listowel Emmets Ladies club extends its sympathies to the family of the late John Joe McElligott.

Our U10 recently enjoyed a great blitz day out in Ballyrickard in Tralee.

Wonderful time had by all.

Our U14s were recently involved in a titanic struggle in the semi-final of the county league. The game was played in sweltering heat in Ballybunion with the temperatures at throw in clocked at a staggering 29 degrees. A much fancied Ballyduff started well, with a well-taken goal. Listowel responded with a great point, followed by a goal to draw level. The game continued at a high tempo with the girls giving it everything, but finding themselves 5 points down at the break. Emmets battled back in the second half, missing some great goal chances, but staying in touch with some fantastic points. With 10 minutes left and after a major reshuffle of the team, Listowel gave it one last push, unfortunately missing a number of great goal chances in quick succession, due in no small part to the Ballyduff goalkeeper who pulled off some amazing saves. The final whistle ended this titanic struggle with Ballyduff coming out on with in a score line of 4-9 to 6-8. Amazing effort by the Emmets girls and we wish Ballyduff every success in the final .

Our U16s continue to train in the town park and are coming to the end of the county campaign. Great to see such good numbers at training despite the weather, holidays etc. Looking forward to what we hope will be a fruitful North Kerry campaign next month.

Last Saturday, we had 2 teams in the national relays finals in Tullamore. Our U15 girls of Megan Lynch, Muireann McElligott, Rachel Nelyon and Sinead Lynch finished fifth in the semi finals but improved on their Munster time by 0.5secs. The U12 girls team of Eimear Buckley, Emma Nelyon, Amy oConnor, Orla McElligott, Saoire Dillion and Molly oRiordan ran superb to finish second in the semi final and fifth in the final in a close contest, taking nearly 2 secs off their Munster time. Well done to all the girls for consistent running and improvements on your times from Munster. Well done also to Louis oConnell who got to the final of the National B 100m finals last Saturday running a good time.

On Sunday, the Kerry County national league team qualified for the National final to be held next month. Well done to club athletes Michael Tony, Ben Sheehan and Kevin Lynch who was part of the Kerry team last Sunday.

North Kerry Senior League Semi Final Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel Ballylongford 4-11 Moyvane 0-12 Ballylongford booked their place in the Final of the North Kerry League when the defeated Moyvane at O'Rahilly Park on a sunny Friday evening.

Moyvane hit the ground running and were two points clear in the opening couple of minutes with points from Aidan Keane and Niall Sheehan,Bally were soon back on level terms when Ciaran O'Connor and Seanie Kennelly (who had replaced the injured Jeremiah Tydings)replied for the homeside, before Joe McCarthy kicked a brilliant goal in the 11th minute giving them a two point lead by the 11th minute.

Both sides exchanged points and retired at half time with just that goal a separating the sides. Ballylongford 1-6 Moyvane 0-6 Ballylongford upped the intensity in the second half and a cracking goal from steve Carmody in the 5th minute adding to an earlier Ciaran O'Connor point extending their lead to seven points. Moyvane responded with two points and were getting back into the game when Jack Mulvihill struck for a great individual goal putting Bally back in control. Aidan Keane and Ciaran O'Connor exchanged points once again before the latter added a fourth goal for the homeside with time running out.

Ballylongford will now go on to meet Duagh in the Final date and venue Tbc. On Friday night we have our annual monster benefit night for Kerry University Hospital with a top class card race card featuring a number of finals with the main one being the Kerry Group sponsored A2 525 yds stake. As well as top class racing we have face painting, bouncy castle music after racing and a best dressed lady competition sponsored by Sam mc Auley. Gates open at 6.30 so don’t be late!

We also race twice on Saturday with our SIS program starting in the afternoon at 2.12 and our evening meeting commences at 7.42.

KERRY CAMOGIE U16S DEFEAT TYRONE IN OFFALY The Kerry U16 Camogie Team travelled to St. Rynagh's in Offaly on Sunday to face Tyrone in the second game of the All-Ireland U16C Camogie Championship. This was a must win game after a one point loss at home to Mayo on the previous Sunday. The Kerry girls hit the ground running and it was indeed a goal feast as they held a 125 to 2-5 halftime lead. Thanks again this year to Greg and Una Ryan of McMunn's Bar and Restaurant Ballybunion for continuing with their close relationship with all things North Kerry Football. kERRY JUNIORS ALL IRELAND SEMI FINAL - kERRY 2.17 -V- kILDARE 1.14 Kerry Juniors took on Kildare on Saturday last and came away with a six point win, with Paudie Clifford at centre forward, (older brother of senior star David) pulling the strings, Kerry had a dream start with 15 mins on the clock, Kerry were up 1.06 to 0.01 the goal coming from Paudie Clifford. But before the half time whistle Kildare hit six unanswered points, with the Kerry backs under pressure giving away frees as Kildare played a running game and came in waves of attack. At the break Kerry's lead was down to two points.

Second half and it was game on with Kerry kicking five points in the third quarter, scores from Ronan Murphy, Padraig O’Connor, Denis Daly, Paudie Clifford and Thomas Hickey pushed them seven points in front by the 47th minute. With Eoghan Lawless bringing the Kildare challenge down the home straight, scoring two frees and a goal from a spot-kick to leave Kildare 1-17 to 1-14 behind in second-half stoppage-time. Then Kerry broke away for Fitzgerald’s goal to seal their path into a fifth straight All-Ireland decider.

Kerry now face Galway in the All Ireland Final played on the weekend of 21st/22nd July.
