Serious racing, Serious fun and Sensational Style at the 159th Listowel Harvest racing festival Sunday 10th to Saturday 16th of September 2017 The Race is on…to Munster’s biggest and best racing festival - the 7 day Listowel Harvest Racing Festival, from Sunday 10th to Saturday 16th of September. Racing highlights include the €175,000 Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase (Grade A) Chase on Wednesday 13th; the €55,000 Guinness Handicap Hurdle on Thursday 14th and the Listowel Races Supporters Club Sponsored Race 'The Slán Abhaile" on Saturday 16th of September. This year the total Prize Money over the 7-days is €1.2 million (€1,225,500).

Fashionable racers of all ages can look forward to three days of Best Dressed competitions, including dedicated categories for gentlemen, ladies, younger racers, vintage lovers, couples and the most Stylish Selfie! The fashion highlight of the week is the McElligott’s Honda Ladies Day on Friday 15th of September judged by top TV Presenters Maura Derrane and Daithi O Se. The overall McElligotts Honda Best Dressed Lady will win a Honda Jazz for a year and €3,000 in cash, with further cash prizes of €3,000 to be won on the day. The popular Best Dressed Man Competition, sponsored by Emerald Properties, Construction & Property Rentals, Listowel, is on Thursday 14th and will be judged by the Crimmin Triplets. The Listowel Tidy Town / An Taisce The Best Presentation of an Up cycled/Restyled or Authentic Vintage Outfit is on the closing date of the festival, Saturday 16th of September. As always, in addition to top quality National Hunt and Flat racing, the Listowel Racing Committee have organised an extensive range of free entertainment, including the Kerry Group family Day; daily race card draws with cash prizes, promotions, music and more.

Save your heels - we have got wheels” Making a welcome return again on Ladies Day is the Listowel Races double decker bus. With the promise to “Save your heels - we have got wheels” the Listowel Bus is free and will depart from 12 noon, every half hour from the town Square. There will also be music and bubbles on board the bus, with ticket giveaways and prizes. The brainchild of David Fitzmaurice, Chairman of Listowel Racing Company, the bus will bring racegoers in comfort and style to Ladies Day. The McElligott’s, Tralee / Honda Ladies Day. Friday 15th of September One of Ireland’s most glamorous events, the annual McElligott’s Honda Ladies Day will take place on Friday 15th of September. The judges are top Irish TV personalities Maura Derrane and Daithi O Se, assisted by Kerry footballer and McElligott’s ambassador Dave Moran.

Listowel Castle, the ancient Fitzmaurice Castle, stronghold of the Lords of Kerry, will have free activities and events for this year’s National Heritage Week, 19th - 27th August.

There will be free tours all week by guides from the Office of Public Works (OPW). Listowel Castle is open seven days a week until Wednesday the 6th September this year.

To especially mark this year's Heritage Week there will be a series of lectures on local and national history.

Saturday 19th August at 7.30pm.

Historian and author Conor Joy will give a lecture on “Kerry Protestants and the Irish Revolution”,giving the audience a view of times and events much commemorated and discussed but from a particular lens.

Sun 20th August at 7pm. Dr. Billy, Mag Fhloinn, folklorist will give a talk on Ritual Animal Sacrifice in Irish Folklore. Not for the faint hearted an unusual and interested topic Fri 25th August at 7.30pm. This evening's talk is about a County hero “Thomas Ashe: Kerryman and Irish Martyr”. This lecture will be given by Kerry historian Dr. Tim Horgan, author of “The Men Will Talk to Me – Kerry Interviews by Ernie O’Malley” and “Dying for the Cause”.

All event are free of charge and will be held in the Seanchai Writer's Museum adjacent to Listowel Castle on Sat 19th, Sun 20th and Fri 25th August. All are welcome but numbers are limited so those interested should arrive early to avoid disappointment. Also…To mark Heritage Week Listowel Tidy Towns Group have organized a guided Riverwalk along the River Feale on this Sunday August 20th.

Walkers will meet at Carroll's Yard at 3pm and our guide for the afternoon will be local Ornatologist John Lavery, who will talk about the various forms of fauna and flaura to be found along the way.

This is a free event & everyone is welcome, including children if accompanied by an adult.

Putting more Life Back into Asdee...

Presentation Girls Score High is Leaving certificate results

Asdee Community Development Association are a newly formed group who got together last February to put a plan in place to revive the village of Asdee. The groups aim is to foster the growth of community spirit and develop ideas to enhance the area.

The committee are currently working on activities such as upgrading the current lighting and footpaths, new school signage, reviewing the speed limits to make the village a safer place and much more, these are just some of the short term goals. There are several more ideas under consideration and may be implemented if sufficient interest exists.

In addition to this, the committee are organising night classes in the Parish hall during the winter months catering to the needs of the community.

The committee’s first social event took place last Friday night in Asdee Parish hall, where they held a tea party. They had a full house, in excess of 200 people attending on the night. It was a night full of laughter, music, song and dance and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

As this was the first community event in a number of years, the committee felt it was apt to officially launch Asdee Community Development Association on the night.

John Kennedy, Chairman, comments “The plan is to revitalise the village, we want to see cars in the village most nights of the week and bring back a strong community spirit. We have had a huge response so far, our meetings are growing in numbers with every meeting and we encourage more to get involved, there is something for everyone.”

On Wednesday Principal Eileen Kennelly and Deputy Principal Margaret Walsh warmly congratulated the Presentation Secondary School Class of 2017 on their excellent Leaving Certificate results. In keeping with previous years the results in the School have been exceptionally high, with a number of students achieving over 500 points. A significant number of LCA Students received distinctions in their exams. The School wishes these wonderful girls continued success in their future lives.

tribute concert to nora mai rochford a Huge Success A huge crowd gathered in Ballyduff on Sunday 6th August to attend a tribute concert, which was held in honour of the late Nora Mai Rochford. People gathered very early to secure their seats for the much anticipated concert featuring some of Ireland’s finest traditional artists. Some travelled from as far away as the United States, the UK and Switzerland to be present for the event.

The marquee at “Your Man’s Bar” was very quickly filled and the night was kicked off with a presentation on Nora Mai Rochford by Ballyduff native and event organiser, Danny O’Mahony. All present were greatly moved watching clips of Nora Mai in full swing with her tin-whistle and listening to her powerful rendition of “The Sandhills of Kilmore”, one of her favourite songs. Old photographs brought back many memories of great sessions held in Browne’s Kitchen with local musicians Harry Sullivan, Martin Whelan, Patrick Flynn and Paddy Carty. Also, visiting musicians such as the legendary accordion players Joe Burke and Anne Conroy Burke.

Special guest of the night, Mary Bergin took to the stage next, accompanied by Seán Earnest who had travelled back from the States early to be present for the event. Mary said she was delighted to perform in Ballyduff for the very first time. She also told of the importance of honouring people in communities, such as Nora Mai Rochford who flew the flag all these years in keeping our culture alive. It was a lovely moment when Mary invited some of the local tin-whistle players, Michelle Anne Houlihan and Anne Marie McCarron on stage with her for a set of reels.

Next on stage was the Galwegian Don Stiffe who captivated the audience immediately with his first song, “Banna Strand”. He sang a fantastic medley of songs including his own “You’ll always be my Mother”. He told the touching background to this song, the story of finding his birth mother in recent years and discovering siblings he never knew he had.

Danny O’Mahony and Séamus Ó Flatharta formed a dynamic duo of accordion and bodhrán. Ó Flatharta sang sean-nós songs in Irish and performed an exquisite harp solo.

The second half of the night consisted of a céilí and when the chairs were pushed back, a large number of people took to the floor for sets and waltzes. As always, the comical Frances Kennedy had the whole crowd in stitches when she took to the microphone with her humorous storytelling. Local dancer Kay Carmody was one of the step dancers and sean-nós dancers who took to the floor during the night. The talented Ó Flatharta performed an exhilarating display of dance for the finale.

It was a wonderful tribute to a wonderful lady, and it was delightful to have all the Rochford family in attendance, some who had travelled from the UK and Kenmare for the memorable occasion. A beautiful piece of slate artwork was presented by Danny O’Mahony to Nora Mai’s husband Michael on the night, designed especially

by Liz Browne of Ciltín Handcrafts.

County Senior Hurling Championship; The semi finals pairings for the county senior hurling championship are Ballyduff v Kilmoyley, Lixnaw v the winners of Ardfert/Abbeydorney. This replay is scheduled to take place on the weekend of August 27th with the semi finals down provisionally for the weekend of Sept 10th.

COUNTY INTERMEDIATE SEMI FINAL; Lixnaws interest in the county Intermediate championship ended in Abbeydorney last Sunday following their 3-14 to 2-8 defeat to Ardfert. The teams were on level terms after ten minutes at 0-2 apiece. Two pointed Ardfert frees gave them the lead and a great save from a penalty by Robert Silles kept Lixnaw in touch. However in the twenthieth minute the game was more or less decided when Ardfert drove home two goals in as many minutes to open a 2-4 to 0-2 gap. Lixnaw responded with a well taken goal from Enda Galvin who was tormenting the Ardfert defence. It was 2-9 to 1-3 at half time before Ardfert added to their lead after the break with three unanswered points. Sub J.P O'Connell threw Lixnaw a life line with an opportunist goal to reduce the margin to eight points 2-12 to 2-4. That was as good as it got though for Lixnaw, Ardfert replied with their third goal five minutes from the end before finishing nine point winners.

KERRY MINOR/U21 Had mixed fortunes in Roscommon last Saturday for their respective All Ireland B quarter final clashes. The minors were first up where they took on Kildare in their bid to achieve six All Ireland titles in a row. Unfortunately, in spite of their best efforts Kerry failed to overcome a strong Kildate team. Wind assisted in the first half Kerry led by 9 points to 6 at the break before increasing their lead to six with the games opening goal early in the second half. Kildare produced a strong finish though, the teams were on level terms with time almost up but two late points secured the victory for Kildare. Brian McAuliffe and Conor O'Keeffe were on the Kerry team while Shane McElligott missed out through injury.

It was all too easy though for the u21s who easily accounted for Donegal by 0-26 to 1-9 in the quarter final of the All Ireland U21 B championship(Richie McElligott cup). Kerry now play Meath in the semi final next Saturday at a neutral venue to be decided. Good luck to the team and management. LISTOWEL COMMUNITY GAMES Best of luck to a strong team representing Listowel at the finals of the Community Games on this weekend in the National Sports Campus in Dublin. We wish the following competitors the very best of luck, enjoy the experience and have lots of fun.

Lucas Leahy will show his artist skills in Under 8 Boys Art. Lucas won our local Art competition and came first in the counties to qualify for the national finals. Clodagh Murphy has a busy weekend taking part in the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann and then representing Listowel and Kerry in the Under 16 Solo music on Saturday, a very talented girl. Cara Leahy takes part in the Under 10 Handwriting. Cara will join her sister Aishling who will take part in the Athletics. Exciting time for the Leahy household. Ellen Trant will try to impress the judges with her skills in the U10 Model Making.

Listowel who won best athletic area at the community games finals, will take a strong team of athletes to represent Kerry in the Athletics in both individual and relay. John Carmondy who is no stranger to this level of competition will go all out in the Boys U10 100m. John got to the finals of this 2 years ago, so it good to see John maintaining his ability. Sean Mahony will contest the Boys U14 Long Jump. Again, Sean has great experience of Community games finals, coming off a small injury, we are sure Sean will perform on the big day. Emma Nelyon will represent Kerry in the Girls U10 200m. The 200m is a real tough endurance event over the 2 days but Emma is a gutsy, committed and talented athlete, we are sure she will do very well.

Listowel have 2 very strong relays teams travelling at U10 and U13 level. All of these athletes have put massive work in over the past 6 weeks, in rain mostly, but we are well prepared. John and Emma join Florence Corridon, Adam Lynch and Harry Reidy in the Under 10 mixed Relay team. Our Under 13 mixed team consists of Rachel Nelyon, Ethan Tritschler, Aisling Leahy, Louis O’Connell and Eille Ava Liston. Both teams ran really well last weekend at the Liscarroll open sports which will stand to them at the national finals.

tarbert JUNIORS TRIUMpH Well done to the Kerry Junior team on their victory over Meath. It is great to see Tarbert man John O’Connell on the Junior’s selectors Council. John is from a family steeped in football, both from his Father’s and his mother’s side. His father Patsy wore the green and gold as did his uncle the late Timmy O’Sullivan from Castleisland on his mother’s side. John also played for Kerry in different grades and is well qualified to be part of the selectors’ process.

THE GREY VOTE I feel it is very important that we urge the grey vote to unite and call a halt to the decimation of our Local Post Offices. The Grey vote carries a powerful punch at election time. It is time to show our solidarity and put an end to the crazy notion that a local Post Office is not a necessity in every parish. The Grey vote of the nation can save the day. Seniors: Tarbert received a walkover from Scartaglen last weekend which now ensures Division 4 status for next year. Our final game is away to Skellig Rangers in September.

Best of luck this weekend to Shane and the Kerry team and management against Mayo in the All Ireland semi-final. A large contingent of supporters from Tarbert are travelling up to Dublin this weekend.

Next Saturday the Tarbert Moyvane U21 team take on Ballydonoghue in Listowel in the quarter final of the North Kerry championship.

It was a very evenly contested first half with a crossfield wind making scorers hard to come by. Defences were on top and at half time, the Score was Six points to Five points in favour of Crotta, The Crotta Captain James Sheehan was their Chief Scorer in this half scoring five points from play, with Declan O’Donoghue getting the other point, Nathan Guerin was Ballyheigue’s chief marksman from frees and play.

The Second half commenced with the teams still evenly matched but a missed goal chance by Ballyheigue ended with Crotta breaking downfield for a point, then a long ball from James Sheehan ended up in the Ballyheigue net and from this on Crotta took over. Goals from Sean Murnane and Denis Nolan sealed the game for Crotta. Ballyheigue added just two points in the second half to their total.

There were emotional final whistle scenes as The referee John Hennessey blew for full time with a historic victory for Crotta on the score of 3-12 to 0-07. Thanks to Ballyheigue for a sporting game who were were hoping for the double after they defeated Crotta in the County League Div 1 Final.

ART EXHIBITION The North Kerry artist, Bob Scott, who exhibits his work in the Family Resource Centre in Ballyduff, is commencing his most ambitious project ever, which is a year-long, rolling exhibition of over 400 paintings, organised into 12 monthly episodes, of 25 to 30 pictures each, focusing on different places or themes.

The first, for the month of August, is about the Cashen, (river and village), and is already on show. Subsequent theme include Meenogahane, Kilmore, Ballybunion, farm-buildings, forests, bogs, rivers, and the sea. Ballyduff, which is in the centre of North Kerry, and enjoys the superb facilities of the F.R.C. (known locally as “Buds”) is the perfect location for this project, bringing art into the local community, and drawing attention to the riches of the area. The exhibitions are open during all normal working hours, and admission is free. Bob hopes that interested viewers will contact him to discuss the paintings and their subjects, and to share memories, information, and stories about them.

BALLYDUFF IN BLOOM Thanks to the good weather we were able to get out in force last Wednesday evening as we continue to plant up the long border at the Lacca end of the village. Our hanging baskets are now in full bloom & thanks to the householders in the village who look after them daily.

In 2016, recognising the importance to Ireland and business in the UK, she CoChaired Ireland4Europe, to galvanise the Irish vote around the UKs EU membership referendum. She has been pivotal in initiating a number of Kerry focused business forums in London and Kerry in the last few years. The Irish Times has named Liz as one of Ireland's Women of the World and a global leader in Healthcare & Life-sciences.

She founded her first company, Santé Communications in 1994. It became one of the world’s leading healthcare consultancies, advising leading pharmaceutical companies on corporate, financial, brand, medical and internal communications. Her Irish graduate programme has resulted in Santé Alumni holding senior positions in international organisations around the globe. In addition, the IIBN Future Leaders Programme, which has a number of Kerry

BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS Senior Football - North Kerry: Ballyduff senior footballers were due to meet Knocknagashel on Wednesday evening last in this already postponed twice fixture. It clashed with Lady's Walk v St Pat's in the County Junior Hurling Championship with a number of players eligible to play with both teams. It took quite a bit of organising to field teams in both games but hankfully all worked well and we eventually mustered a squad to travel to Knocknagashel and came away winners on the score Ballyduff 2 – 12 Knocknagashel 1 - 7.

B Football: Our B team suffered defeat in Ballylongford on Tuesday last when they met Beale in the Final of Division 4 of North Kerry Football League. Beale led from the start and were ahead at halftime. Ballyduff started well in the second half but unfortunately could not mantain the momentum and Beale ran out winners on a final score of Beale 2 – 11 Ballyduff 0 – 3.

Kerry Hurling: Kerry U21 and Minor hurling teams had mixed luck on Saturday in the All Ireland B Hurling Championships. The Kerry minors lost out by two points to Kildare in their bid to winning six in a row. Jack O'Sullivan was our sole representative on the team while Darragh Goulding was among the subtitutes and John Hennessey was the team Manager.

In the Under 21 contest Eoin Ross had an outstanding game at wing back in his side's easy victory over Donegal while John Hussey was among the substitutes. Kerry now go on to meet Meath in the semi final on this Saturday August 19th.

John Lawlor R.I.P: The death has occurred of John Lawlor Ballincrossig, Causeway. John was a member of the Ballyduff panel in 1955 when they made the historic breakthrough to win Ballyduff's first Senior Hurling Championship title in 64 years. Members of Causeway and Ballyduff GAA Clubs formed a guard of honour at his funeral. Sympathy is extended to his family.

COISTE NA nÓG: The Under 12s had a heavy schedule this week playing two football matches and one hurling match. It started with victories for both the Under 12 team and the Colts over Ballydonoghue on Monday in the first round of the North Kerry Football League. Another pair of games followed on Thursday. The Under 12's fell short this time but the Colts managed to secure a second victory of the week. Finally, the hurlers took on Kilmoyley at home on Friday winning thier game well.

The big event of the week, however was the Under 16 County Hurling Shield final against Kenmare/Kilgarvan in Killarney. A goal-fest was on the cards with the North Kerry side taking victory on a score line of 5 – 7 to 2 – 4. Well done to the team and mentors on a quality season so far.

Looking ahead, the Under 13 County Hurling final takes place this Wednesday at 6.30pm in Kilmoyley against Lixnaw. All support would be appreciated.

National finals and this is her third trip in a row, winning in 2015 and put in a gallant effort in 2016 being a year out of age. On Saturday are the heats and we wish Saoirse every success, Saoirse has been continuing her training over the summer and will relish the experience. Best of luck Saoirse you always give 100%. Mike Galvin runs in the u12 100m this is Mike’s first experience at National finals and he will take it all in his stride. Mike has put in great training during the summer and will be delighted to don the Kerry vest and represent his area and County with pride.

I’m sure this won’t be Mike’s last time wearing the Kerry colours as Mike is a talented young man in many sports.

The athletics is over Sat and Sunday and we wish Mike and Saoirse the best of luck, enjoy the experience.

Cycling on Grass: On Sunday Nuala Moloney represents Duagh/Lyre and Kerry in the U12 cycling on grass. The venue here is Crokage Park, luckily for the Kerry participants in this event it is on the way into Dublin. This is a first time experience for Nuala and she has been training since her qualification at the County. Nuala we wish you the best of luck, enjoy the cycling all the training is done and I’m sure this will be the first of many trips wearing the green and gold.

Art: Erin Welch represents Duagh/Lyre and Kerry in the U14 Art. Erin is no stranger to National finals having won gold in 2015 for project (team of 4) and in 2016 winning pewter (4th) in Art. The best man was Keith Moriarty and Paul Doherty and Sean Buck were groomsmen. Flower girls were Amy O’Connor and Amelia Gleeson. The reception was held at The Devon Inn Hotel.

Congratulations also to Jamie Hayes of Templeathea (son of Patsy and James) and his new wife Cherie who were married recently in Australia and who have been on holidays here. The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) has a vision of an Ireland where people with disabilities enjoy a life of equal rights, choices and opportunities in how they live their lives, and in a country that’s a model worldwide as a truly inclusive society.

A fundraising 10k Walk will take place on the 27th August starting and finishing at the IWA Day / Resource Centre at Ballygologue road with all funds raised going to the Listowel branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association. This is where we need your help. In the coming days you may be approached to sponsor a walker or you might like to become more involved and fill a sponsorship card of your own. Or you may prefer to make a donation at your own discretion at a time that suits you best.

Whatever you do, remember in doing so you are helping to further the development of the IWA services within your community as follows: Assisted living services: Provide personal assistant services to individuals with a physical or sensory disability.

Rehabilitave training: IWA is committed to supporting people with disability through its training programmes and supported employment initiatives.

Fixtures: U21 North Kerry Championship Quarter Final's Listowel Emmets/Clounmacon - vs - Brosna/Knocknagoshel Saturday 19th August at 7pm E.T - Venue: Duagh Results: County Senior League Division Two – Round 10 Emmets 1-8 Currow 1-9 In an extremely tight affair in Listowel on Friday evening last, Currow got the better of Emmets to set up a nervous ending to the Division 2 campaign for the home side. With 10 minutes on the clock the away team were 0-03 – 001 to the good thanks to a Daniel O’Shea brace and a Kevin Daly point in between Noel Kennelly got Emmets on the board. Just a minute later the sides were level after two points in quick succession from last weekend’s AllIreland Junior winners Conor Cox and Jack McGuire.

Both sets of forwards were finding it difficult to create space for scoring opportunities, a trend which continued for the remainder of the game.

Currows Luke Fitzgerald and Daniel O’Shea were next to raise white flags but Listowel had their own answer to this through a Noel Kennelly goal after some excellent work from Tom McCarthy and Bryan Sweeney. The first half ended with John Buckley and the aforementioned Sweeney trading points to leave the score at half-time Emmets 1-04 Currow 0-06.

With conditions decreasing after the break it took 10 minutes for the opening score of the half which came from the boot of the ever reliable Noel Kennelly while 6 minutes later Bryan Sweeney stretched Emmets lead out to 3 points as Currow were finding it difficult to penetrate the Listowel backline thanks to some excellent interceptions from Tom Melvin and Brendan Guiney.

In fact it wasn’t until the 21st minute that they registered their first score of the half through Pa McCarthy and 3 minutes later the game changed direction as substitute Shane Brosnan found the net to put the away side into a 1 point lead with 6 minutes left to play. Emmets were working hard now for possession and were given an opportunity to level from a placed ball which Kennelly duly dispatched. A minute later the impressive David Sheehy put Listowel back in front from a brilliant individual score but this was to be as good as it got for the hosts as a free from Daniel O’Shea and a 45′ from keeper Shane O’Leary sealed an important victory for Currow who are now fighting for promotion. Things are slightly different for Emmets however as they are hoping to do enough to keep them in Division 2 for another year with just 1 game left to play.

We defeated Ballydonoghue in the semi-final last Thursday. Despite being reduced to 12 men early in the game, Beale went into the second half leading by five points. 0-11 to 1-3. Ballydonoghue played better football on the changeover and levelled the game with fifteen mins to go. We dug deep and a goal was the beginning of end for our opponents. Final score 1-15 to 2-7.

Our Senior Footballers were due to play Tuosist away on Saturday August 12th last in Round 10 of the Credit Union County League, Division 5 but by agreement from both clubs depending on the progressive of Kerry Senior Footballers the game will now be played on either Saturday August 26th or Saturday September 2nd.

UNDER 16s: Com Brosnan Par, Moyvane was the venue for this County league Division 7 semi final on Wednesday evening last where Bally/Asdee battled it out with Tarbert/Moyvane for a place in the final. The opening half saw Bally/Asdee play some fine attacking football and a well taken goal from Liam Mulvihill gave his side a good start with the same player adding 3 further points. However Tarbert/Moyvane responded with 1-6 from play which saw them lead at the break; 1-6 to 1-3. The second half saw Tarbert/Moyvane lay down an early marker, got stuck in from the throw in and in fairness their opponents couldn’t handle some fine football skills and excellent scores who ran out fully deserving victors at the final whistle. Still well done to the locals who qualified for the final stages of the competition against really tough opposition. Tarbert/Moyvane 3-16 to Bally/Asdee 2-8.

Senior: Senans travelled to Foilmore to claim two valuable points in the Co League. The home side were first to score with a point from Brian Smith, Paudie Quille responded for Senans, David Foran added Senans second point however Adrian O Connell scored a cracking goal and Brian Smith a point to give the home side the advantage in the first quarter. Points from David Foran Paudie Quille and three from Sean O Connell (2F) had the side’s level at the break. Senans had a dream start to the second half with a goal from Ronan Kerin. St Michaels Foilmore also opened the second half with a goal

by James Moran. Paudie Quille and David Foran added further points maintaining the Senans lead and Cathal Kennelly’s goal in the final few minutes for a full time score St Senans 2-11 St Michaels / Foilmore 2-06.

Under 14 North Kerry league final replay Moyvane attacked from the throw in with a goal from Darragh Mulvihill however Senans Dara Keane cancelled this out with a goal. The impressive Darragh Mulvihill scored Moyvane’s second goal on six minutes with Moyvane having the advantage on the score board in the first quarter, however goal’s by Sean Twomey and Garry Dillon and points from Gavin Parker and Sean McGrath kept Senans hopes alive with a halftime score of 5-07 to 3-02. Senans need a good start to the second half and the accurate Sean McGrath kicked some fine points Dara Keane rattled the net for Senans fourth goal closing the gap but on the night Moyvane proved too strong and went on to claim the victory. Senans battled bravely throughout this very entertaining encounter. Well done to all involved. Congrats to Moyvane.

At the resumption Quinn added 2 great points and soon after dummied and jinxed his way into the full forward line to kick another super score to put the home side in front by 1. Greaney added another deep in injury time and the referee blew for his last time as the darkness of the night crept in. Clounmacon had come away with the victory after a fantastic game of athleticism, endeavour and mighty heart that has stood to them so many times in the past. LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB

Lioscarroll AC: Lios Tuathail AC had a big turnout at the Liscarroll Open Sports last weekend in lovely sunshine which turned to Irish rain before the day was finished. Club training has finished for the year but athletes are still very eager to get the spikes on and run out those legs.

U11 Boys 100m: John Carmody was in good form before the community games next weekend taking first with Adam Lynch coming Third and Harry Reidy Fourth. John also took silver in the Turbo Javelin. U9 Boys sprint, Steve Reidy, still showed his class finishing first in the sprint and second in the 300m. Ethan Tritschler finished third in the Boys Long Jump. Padraic McCarthy continued his learning curve in the shot putt to finish first with a PB. Rachel Nelyon and Aisling Leahy ran well in the Girls U13 but just outside the medals. Ronan Leahy, back on the track finished third in the sprint.

Emma Nelyon finished third in the Girls U11 300m, a good race in prep for the community games finals. Louis O'Connell ran strong to win silver in the u14 100m and Brendan O'Leary finished second in the u13's. Holly Boyle and Amy O'Connor medaled in the girls sprint. Other athletes to run were Maria Tritschler, Aoidean Larkin, Ellie Ava Liston, Florence and Louis Corridon. All competitors ran in the various relays, competing very well across all age groups. Pride of place goes to the Masters team who got together for the first time to pick up silver in the 4 x 100m and now looking forward to maybe the Europeans Masters coming up next year. Team: Jerry Reidy, making a comeback to the track after 20 years. Declan O'Connell, who thinks he is faster than Louis, remains to be seen. Patrick O'Connor , who always talks up a good race and Kevin Lynch who anchored the team.

National Community Games Finals: The Club would like to wish all club athletes the very best when representing there parish and County at the National Community Games next weekend in Dublin. Live wires Aoidean Larkin (Moyvane) U8 60m and U10 100m Amy O'Connor (Abbeyfeale). Listowel are represented by John Carmody U10 100m, Emma Nelyon U10 200m, Sean Mahony U14 Long Jump in the individual events along with 2 teams in the relays: Adam Lynch, Harry Reidy and Florence Corridon in the Mixed U10. Rachel Nelyon, Ethan Tritschler, Aisling Leahy and Louis oConnell in the under 13 mixed relay. From Duagh, the experienced Saoirse Dillion U10 100m and Mike Galvin U12 100m. Sinead and Sarah Lynch and Katie Dunworth in the Under 14 girls relay from Ballydonoghue/Lisselton.

County Junior League Results Pairc na Gael was host to the Co Jnr Semi Final Friday 4th Aug which saw the home side meet the visitors from the East, Kilcummin. A fair crowd in attendance witnessed a great game between 2 very evenly matched sides, that had met 5 weeks previously in the last round of this competition. Clounmacon had come away with the spoils on that occasion, just about, so Kilcummin were bound to be up for this one. The returning Paudie Quinn opened the scoring from play but Kilcummin tacked on 4 points in reply without answer. Quinn added 2 more from play and 15 minutes in and a rebounding shot from World Athletics 2017: Well done to Aoibhinn Harte sporting the Lios Tuathail Greaney was picked up by Quinn and his low shot went past the keeper to AC Vest at the recent World championship in London supporting her hero the net, 1-3 to 0-6. Clounmacon were on top now and Chris Lyons kicked them Usain Bolt. into the lead in the 20th minute. O Hanlon kicked the next score for the Black and Amber, after some magnificent fielding

by Grimes, which was a feature throughout the entire game. Lyons added a free and O Hanlon from play ended the homesides tally in the first half. Kilcummin did score a fisted point on the stroke of half-time, 1-7 to 0-7.

However, whilst speaking to the referee at half-time he informed me the scoreline was 16 to 0-8. All I'm going to say on this matter is he was incorrect! The second half began with the men in green scoring first from a free followed by one more but Lyons replied with his own soon after. Kilcummin attacked next and scored a goal after some very good movement. Grimes fielded superbly and soloed through for his own score before O Mahony's trojan work laid off to Greaney who slotted the equaliser. It was really frantic stuff at this stage with scores being exchanged at a rapid pace. Kilcummin scored twice, Lyons replied with a free. Stephen McCarthy attacked next and was hauled down in the large square.

Lyons took the spot kick and sent the keeper the wrong way with an excellent shot to the corner. Kilcummin not done yet and scored Capt. Tom Keane with the Ballybunion Golf Club team who beat Ennis in the Munster Final again at the other end. Mike McCarthy kicked of A.I.G. Junior Cup at Tralee on Sunday. What the neutral thought would be a keenly contested final between two neighboring clubs turned out to be a one sided affair with the seasiders fast running game feeling like they had been hit by a tornado for the Ballyduff men, who didn't help themselves by making simple handling errors and allowing Beale turn the ball over time after time. But the scoreline does not reflect the possession that Ballyduff , but just could not covert their changes on the scoreboard. It was Beale on the scoreboard within seconds a point from Dermot Cummins, with full forward Brendna Brennan adding another point to Beales tally all before the 1st minute of play. But the first goal of the game came form Man of the Match Callum Sweeney who struck the ball with force to drive it to the back of the Ballyduff net to raise the green flag and a roar from the stand. Beale went on to score 5 more points before the half time whistle, with Ballyduff only managing a single point from play by corner forward Padraig Hussey in the 13th minute. Half time score Beale 1.07 v Ballyduff 0.01 Second half and Ballyduff did play much better but the seasiders had to much in the tank and pushed on with another goal and 3 points to finish their tally of scoring. Ballyduff threatened the Beale net on only one occasion but Beale number 1 between the posts Kenneth Mannix made a great save to deny Ballyduff any chance of a revival. Ballyduff went on to score 2 points in the second half a point a piece from Eddie Joy and Michael Hussey to bring their tally to three points for the 60 minutes of football. I am sure these sides will meet again before the end of the year in the Junior Cups.
