The Spirit of Elijah...

Part 2

Ordinary Men…

17 Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.

[I Kings 17:1.]

18 And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual].

[I Kings 18:42-45.]

(Jas 5:17-18) Ampl prophesied, saying: Look, you scoffers and scorners, and marvel and perish and vanish away; for I am doing a deed in your days, a deed which you will never have confidence in or believe, [even] if someone [clearly describing it in detail] declares it to you. While I prayed in the congregation, the Lord Jesus Christ probed me to ask Him for Elijah’s cloak. While in worship, during that service, the Lord showed me how, with great authority, a staff, like the staff of Moses which struck the red sea, a golden sceptre came out of heaven and struck the southern part of Africa three times, causing a great ripple effect,

An Ordinary man…

Nearly one year later, during the night of the 23rd of February 2003, in a dream I saw a wild man, with long white hear, blowing in the wind. He had fierce features and looked very authoritive. That next day a farmer from the Kwazulu Natal, which is in the South Eastern region of South Africa, Angus Buchan came to preach at a large church in Pretoria called – Hatfield Christian church.

I did not know this man, but only heard that he was coming to preach at the church. The prophet of this church, Joe van den Berg, stood up that morning and

which went out from Southern Africa into the whole world.

Angus is from Scottish decent and is by nature a very fiery character. Before he came to know Jesus, he was very aggressive and tried to do everything himself. This caused him to clash often with his farm workers, especially Simeon Benghu, his foreman. What made matters worse was the fact that he had been forced to sell his farm in Zambia at a ridiculously low price and when he got to South Africa he had very little money to buy a farm. They eventually purchased a farm without a house and had to live in a caravan for several months. Jill was 6 months pregnant and they already had three other young children. In addition to the cramped living quarters, there was no running water on the farm.

Angus, not a university graduate, public speaker or celebrity, but a farmer, managed to gather a crowd of 35 000 people into a stadium in Durban one year to hear him speak and to join in prayer for rain. The El Nino drought of the late nineties had resulted in complete devastation for local farmers, coupled with that they were worn out from having to deal with violence on a daily basis.

Farm murders had become common place and people were afraid for their lives. They were desperate and needed a miracle. Angus looked at the mix of black and white faces in the crowd, then uttered: “To hell with El Nino! We are going to plant this year! And we are going to plant potatoes.”

Scientists had warned the farmers not to plant that season unless they had irrigation and Angus knew very well that he didn’t have irrigation.

Planting potatoes would be a massive risk. Traditionally he was a maize and cattle farmer.

Nevertheless he prayed and prayed and he knew that the Lord wanted him to plant potatoes. He went back to his farm, hired two extra farms and planted potatoes in the dust. If the crop had failed he would have lost everything that he had.

The farm workers at Shalom soon named Angus, ‘Nkosaan Italiaan’, because they said he looked and behaved like a mad Italian.

They used to laugh and mock Angus, saying that they were convinced he would leave the farm in a couple of months. That was in 1978. Now, nearly 30 years later, the Buchans still farm at Shalom.

“The condition for a miracle is difficulty, however the condition for a great miracle is not difficulty, but impossibility.”

The change in Angus came when he gave his life, his heart, his family and his farm to Jesus during a church service at the Greytown Methodist Church. He decided to take God at His Word and to trust Him in everything.

Soon, with the same fiery passion with which he farmed, Angus began to tell people just how God had changed his life. This new faith in Jesus did not

make life any easier, but it did give him peace beyond understanding and it assisted him to make sense of life.

As Angus, a farmer preached that day at Hatfield Christian Church, he spoke about the very mantle of Elijah. He read from 2 Kings 2:1-18 and explained how we must be desperate for God to give us the Mantle of Elijah. He also told us how he had trusted the Lord and how he had planted in dry ground and yet the Lord brought forth a rich harvest of 6 tons per square area with mielies standing 2 meters high.

What is very striking in the story is the contrast between the miracles and the hardships that seemed to happen. The first miracle came soon after his conversion when he, Simeon and the workers were burning some brush wood on the farm. A gust of wind suddenly blew the flames into the Lion Match Plantation and Angus knew that he could be taken to court if he caused a fire that burnt down someone else’s plantation. He called Simeon over and told him that they needed to pray for rain.

Simeon said that it was the dry season and there are no clouds around.

Angus went ahead and simply asked for rain.

Within an hour it started to rain and it killed the fire!

Then the Lord reminded me of a vision which He had shown me about 3 months before. In a vision I saw a mielie land with strong mielie plants standing 2 meters high. I saw how a man walked between these mielies, brushing his finger tips over the top of the mielies that was standing ripe and white for harvest. I was also reminded how 2 weeks before, in dream, I had seen out of the south a large rock came, like a flood, into the city of Pretoria. Then the word of the Lord came to me and I heard the Lord say that He would come in like a flood from the south. I wondered whether this was the beginning of the revival we had prayed and fasted for? I also wondered why the Lord Yashua came and told me about these things?

When the Lord called Angus to start preaching and to share the Gospel, Angus acted in obedience and soon he started getting calls from all over South Africa inviting him to preach to farmers. His faith grew with every campaign and with every miracle that he experienced.

As I came home I begged the Lord to empower me so that I may glorify His Name and empower His people to glorify His Name. I begged Him that I didn’t want to settle for second best anymore. As I waited upon the Lord He suddenly showed me a large hand on a gear lever. I looked up from the earth and saw how it towered up in front of me. I immediately realized that the Lord says He wants to go into second gear. He was also about to change gears in heaven.

Then, just as you read about the miracles and think that nothing could go wrong in the Buchans’ lives, a tragic accident on the farm shook their family. This was an incredibly tough time for everyone at Shalom, but God is always faithful in bringing His peace in times of need. Even at the lowest point in his life, Angus remained faithful to the Lord. Because of a great hunger and a desire to serve God in an even greater way than ever before, literally thousands of people across the country of South Africa have met together in repentance and worship before God. This year, 2009, about 200 000 men gathered in the largest open air gathering that have ever been hosted in Southern Africa.

On the 10th of May 2008, while Angus was preaching to 35 000 people, in a stadium in Vanderbijlpark in the Gauteng area an awesome sign and a wonder took place. 35 000 eye-witnesses saw this awesome sign. A large sign of a heart appeared, while Angus was preaching that Jesus Christ is still alive and on the Throne today.

John the Baptist…

Born form a priest, 6 months ahead of Yashua, the Messiah of the world, was born John – called the Baptist, who came to prepare the way before Jesus Christ. Before he was born an angel prophesied about this man’s birth, saying: 17 And he will [himself] go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn back the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient and incredulous and unpersuadable to the wisdom of the upright [which is the knowledge and holy love of the will of God]-in order to make ready for the Lord a people [perfectly] prepared [in spirit, adjusted and disposed and placed in the right moral state]. God had prepared a man to prepare the hearts of the people before He Himself came to them. They had to be made ready, by filling in every valley and making every high hill low, so that the Glory of the Lord could be revealed and so that they could be able to receive that which Jesus came to reveal from the Father’s heart, as the prophet Isaiah prophesied saying: 31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. [Heb. 12:1-3.] (Isa 40:31) Ampl

He was sent as a messenger or voice with a simple message: “Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord [clear away the obstacles]; make straight and smooth in the desert a highway for our God! [Mark 1:3.] 4 Every valley shall be lifted and filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked and uneven shall be made straight and level, and the rough places a plain. 5 And the glory (majesty and splendour) of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

John was sent in his generation to restore the destruction and ruins of many generations that had been lost, as is written: “And they shall rebuild the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former desolations and renew the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” (Isa 61:4) Ampl

For God said by the prophet Malachi: “Behold, I send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me. And the Lord [the Messiah], Whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; the Messenger or Angel of the covenant, Whom you desire, behold, He shall come, says the Lord of hosts.

[Matt. 11:10; Luke 1:13-17, 76.] (Mal 3:1) Ampl The Lord Jesus Christ – The King of all kings, He who was with the Father from the beginning, He through whom all things had been made, as were written by the apostle Paul: “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among nations, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.” (1Ti 3:16) MKJV was about to be revealed. Men had to get themselves ready to meet with their God.

Those who know their God… Now once more God wants His people not to be caught unaware of His coming. Therefore, He will send before Him, yet another ‘Elijah’, like John the Baptist, who will come in the Spirit and the power of Elijah, to prepare the people to meet with their God. Now, at the appointed time of the end, God wants His Glory to be revealed again, as was prophesied by the prophet Daniël, saying: 32 And such as violate the covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God]. 33 And they who are wise and understanding among the people shall instruct many and make them understand, though some [of them and their followers] shall fall by the

In order for them to do these mighty works they would have to be endued with power from on high as all the prophets prophesied and as have happened on the day of Pentecost, saying: “But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth. The Word ‘power’ in Greek is ‘dunamis’ and was derived from the words: dynamic, dynamo and dynamite. This is the supernatural ability to perform the works of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, enabling them to be witnesses for Jesus Christ, Yashua, the King of kings as was written: 10 Then I fell prostrate at his feet to worship (to pay divine honors) to him, but he [restrained me] and said, Refrain! [You must not do that!] I am [only] another servant with you and your brethren who have [accepted and hold] the testimony borne

by Jesus. Worship God! For the substance (essence) of the truth revealed by Jesus is the spirit of all prophecy [the vital breath, the inspiration of all inspired preaching and interpretation of the divine will and purpose, including both mine and yours]. 11 After that I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse [appeared]! We must therefore take care and be cautious that our bridegroom Yashua will not come upon us like a thief in the night and that, that which was prophesied, by the prophet Habakkuk do not happen to us: “Look among the nations, and behold and wonder marvellously; for I will work a work in your days which you will not believe, not even if it is declared to you.” (Hab 1:5) MKJV
