Matches like tonight are fantastic to test yourself against your closest rivals, and it will be great to see a number of familiar faces returning to Connah’s Quay, this time in the Flint squad. Niall and his team’s work to get back into the top flight was tremendous last season, and I think in time their league position will reflect the quality they have. We’re fortunate at Connah’s Quay to have great ties with Flint, and have of course been working together closely to look at the possibility of a ground share which would provide both sides with a European-grade stadium.

Thanks to our win over Barry last week, the top three now have a nine point gap between third and fourth, and the next few weeks will be vital in making sure we stay there.

Hello and welcome to a very special edition of our digital programme as we finally welcome Flint Town United back to Deeside for a top-flight game. A warm welcome to Darryl, Niall and all making the short journey over for tonight’s clash.

Like everything else, Covid has put a pause on those plans for now, but today’s game is just as important as a win will further consolidate our position for a sixthconsecutive European campaign.

It was also a good chance to reflect on the Nomads careers of Callum Morris and Michael Wilde, with Callum making his 135th league appearance and Michael going one goal away from 70 in all competitions for the club. They’ve been a key part of Andy Morrison’s squad since his arrival and they continue to represent us fantastically well week in, week out. Although this game would have fans in an ideal world, I still think it will be an atmospheric evening under the floodlights and hope our fans can follow the actions safely from home. After Aberystwyth on Friday evening, we’re here again next Saturday for a clash with TNS – I don’t need to tell you all not to miss that one, which is live on S4C for all to enjoy. Enjoy the game all and have a healthy and happy December!

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United

NEIGHBOURS MEET IN DEESIDE DERBY Tuesday night will see Connah’s Quay Nomads host neighbours Flint Town United in the JD Cymru Premier at Deeside Stadium. The match marks the first top flight meeting between the two since April 1998, with the last league meeting coming in the Cymru Alliance back on Boxing Day 2011. Flint’s Form Flint have won just three games this season, with their most recent coming in a 3-0 victory away at Haverfordwest little over a week ago, before losing out to Cardiff Met on Saturday afternoon. Prior to their win at Haverfordwest, Niall McGuiness’ side hadn’t won since late September with a 2-1 victory over Cefn Druids. Their only other victory this campaign came on the opening day with a 1-0 victory over Newtown. Previous encounters The most recent match up between the two sides was at Cae-y-Castell ahead of this season - a game which The Nomads came out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Mike Wilde and Danny Davies, however the last competitive fixture was last October in the Nathaniel MG Cup - that game saw The Nomads win 4-1 on our way to picking up the trophy for the first time since 1996. The last top flight meeting between the two sides came in April 1998 - a game in which Paul Jones, Jamie Hughes and club Hall of Famer Stuart Rain all scored to give The Nomads a 3-2 win on the Monday night some 22 years ago. From the gaffer Following The Nomads’ 3-1 victory over Barry Town United on Saturday, Andy Morrison looked forward to Tuesday’s match, saying; “They’re going to be tough - it’s a derby - they’ve got a lot of good, strong characters in there - they’ve got a lot of good players who’ve played for me and did ever so well, Wes Baynes, Les Davies, John Danby to name a few. It’ll be a really terrific game and it’s a shame that there’s not the local community to come and see it but that’s the position we’re in and we’re really looking forward to it because we’re in a really good space at the minute...”

NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA

3-1

Wilde (11’) Poole (37’) Edwards (70’)

JD Cymru Premier Saturday 28th November 2020 Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay, Wales

J.Cotterill (9’)

NOMADS BEAT BARRY IN LIVE CLASH Connah’s Quay Nomads defeated Barry Town United by three goals to one at Deeside Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the JD Cymru Premier. A Jordan Cotterill goal sent the visitors ahead, but Michael Wilde, Declan Poole and Aeron Edwards ensured a third consecutive victory for the reigning Welsh Champions. • Early Barry goal was quickly cancelled out by Wilde • Poole scored Nomads’ second to secure half time lead • Aeron Edwards added third with well taken header • The victory sees Nomads move to 2nd in the league It was also a milestone fixture for midfielder Callum Morris, who made his 135th league appearance for The Nomads, whilst the in-form Michael Wilde was only two goals away from scoring 70 for Nomads in all competitions. Andy Morrison made only one change from his previous side, with Jay Owen coming in to replace Aron Williams who started on the bench. Gavin Chesterfield’s Barry Town were without talisman Kayne McLaggon, but started the likes of Luke Cummings, Clayton Green and Nat Jarvis. The game started brightly and it took only seven minutes for a breakthrough, as Jordan Cotterill broke for Barry with a run to the by-line before slotting past Byrne at a tight angle. But Barry’s lead would be short-lived, as just two minutes later Michael Wilde equalised to secure his 69th goal for the club. 6

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United

The ball was knocked onto him from a Priestley Farquharson throw in, and he showed great skill to control the ball in the air with his right foot and finish a left-footed strike under keeper Mike Lewis. With the scores even once again at 1-1, the game became a battle for possession as tackles began to flow, with Andy Morrison getting the first yellow of the game on the touchline as he was booked by referee Rob Jenkins. Connah’s Quay were beginning to see more chances, seen through set pieces from Jay Owen who had a corner kick punched away by GK Lewis in the 24th, and a Declan Poole free kick being again collected by the keeper in the 26th. On the 30 minute mark, the encounter was somewhat end-to-end with both sides attacking their respective areas. After regaining possession, Danny Davies went on a pacy run down the left wing and crossed close to the Barry box. Wilde was running in to finish, only to be tackled by a chasing defender, but Poole was there to finish it the 37th despite keeper Lewis getting a touch on it. The goal was enough to give Nomads a 2-1 lead at half time, and in the second half they quickly set about looking for a third. On 48 minutes they won a free kick taken by Jay Owen which was headed away, while Farquharson was battling well to keep the ball away from the chasing Nat Jarvis. Danny Davies was making some great runs down the left wing for Nomads, and twice had a chance to score after successfully beating defender Cummings on the inside to get a shot away, but saw Lewis collect on both occasions. After the hour mark, Andy Morrison made his first change, replacing Danny Harrison with Aron Williams who joined the Nomads attack. In the 69th minute, Nomads’ pressure finally paid off when Aeron Edwards sent an excellent header into the top left corner via a Danny Davies cross, after another of his runs past the Barry defence. Connah’s Quay nearly scored a fourth - and Michael Wilde’s 70th club career goal - in the 74th from a Jay Owen cross, but keeper Mike Lewis managed to palm the ball off the goal line to deny the Nomads forward. Inside the final 10, Nomads keeper Ollie Byrne was then called into action at the opposite end, and made a fantastic low save off of his left post to deny Barry’s Luke Cooper from close range. The visitors continued to press as they looked to stage a late comeback, but Nomads’ disciplined defence held out, with further substitutions seeing Sameron Dool and Craig Curran make late cameos in place of goalscorers Poole and Wilde respectively. Following three minutes of stoppage time, Nomads’ victory was confirmed to send them to 2nd in the league table with their third win in a row.

A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall

Derby day is finally here and it’s great to be at Deeside as we welcome Flint Town United for our first top-flight clash in many years. In another time, this could’ve been one of our biggest gates in recent memory as we go head to head with the Silkmen, who we’re pleased to have as both friends and rivals at Deeside. You have to go back nearly nine years ago, to the Boxing Day of 2011, for the last time we faced Flint in a league fixture. This was our Huws Gray Alliance days, and we were 2-1 winners in a vital clash on our way to our second consecutive second division title. Now, much has changed for both clubs as we’ve come on leaps and bounds, with today’s JD Cymru Premier clash a great way to reignite a long local rivalry. Since then, Nomads have of course enjoyed domestic cup success and made a name for ourselves on the European stage, whilst Flint under Niall McGuinness’ became one of the second tier’s toughest teams before finally earning promotion last season which they fully deserved regardless of the season curtailment. We will also see a number of ex-Nomads returning to Deeside today as the likes of John Danby, Rob Hughes and Wes Baynes are all key parts of the Silkmen’s squad along with our ex-academy and eventual first teamers Dom McHugh and Conor Harwood. It’s a squad full of quality, which is why league position won’t matter tonight. As often happens in derbies, form really is secondary and we’ll have to be at it from the off to make it four wins in a row and five unbeaten as we look to keep our red hot post firebreaker form. We’re in a good place after the 3-1 win over Barry, as their early goal could’ve derailed other sides but we stuck at it to end the game as worthy winners. Keep an eye out for Michael Wilde tonight too, as his equaliser means he is just one goal shy of 70 goals during his Nomads career so far. After tonight it’s Aberystwyth away on Friday evening, before another big game here at Deeside as welcome The New Saints in what looks highly likely to be a crucial one in this season’s title race. It’s also on Sgorio, which means you’ll be able to follow the action from home as well as from our Twitter updates. Score Prediction: Nomads 2-1 Flint Town United Player of the Week: Jay Owen Jay came into our side last week against Barry and was as solid as ever in the midfield, causing all sorts of problems to frustrate their advances forward. One of Andy Morrison’s first summer signings following the conclusion of the 2015/16 season, he’s gone on to be a key player and has been playing in Europe for many years now with Airbus before us. Whenever he’s called upon you know he’ll do a quality job and we may well see more of him tonight. 10 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United
