This summer featuring BBC Walking with Beas ts Exhibition and Wild Worlds sum mer play installation!


Wild Worlds FREE This season sees the return of the Herbert's fantastic FREE summer programme for families. Wild Worlds combines a fantastic play installation with imaginative family workshops, offering exciting places to explore and unique items to create. Travel deep under the sea, explore the forest shadows or hide in the craters of a distant planet.

Family workshops FREE Content is suitable for 4+ but all are welcome. Precious Treasures Trail FREE 27 & 28 July, 31 August & 1 September Drop in anytime between 10.30am – 12.30pm & 1.30pm – 3.30pm Pick up an ancient map and follow the clues to uncover a precious treasure. Once you complete your quest return to the activity room to make a special box to keep it safe.

Creative Workshops Drop in sessions FREE 2 – 25 August, Tuesdays – Thursdays 10.30am – 12.30pm & 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Summer Exhibition for under 8s FREE 22 July – 11 September

Inspired by the magical Wild Worlds exhibition, the themes of clouds, under the sea, forest and space will ensure families will get creative with making and doing! Booking is not required but at busy times you may be asked to wait.

Our interactive installation is open everyday to explore and transform. This richly designed space offers all sorts of playful possibilities to stretch the imagination of younger children and the adults brave enough to join them.

Memory maps Bookable sessions FREE 5 – 26 August, Friday mornings 10.30am – 11.30am

Wild Worlds will evolve from week to week, and you can help decide how it changes through Saturday Story Sessions. Join us to invent the new worlds and find connections, hints and clues throughout the Herbert's galleries. Check www.theherbert.org for times.

Using an exciting selection of collage materials, create pockets and pages to stick, peg or glue and create a unique scrap book to map your memories of the summer holidays! Booking required at reception or call 024 7629 4774.

Our family activities enable children and adults of all ages to learn and have fun together. Please give what you can afford at our venue so we can continue to offer them for FREE. Suggested donation: £2 per family. Thank you

2 July – 30 October Take a stroll into history with these amazing prehistoric beasts. Featuring large scale models including woolly mammoths, sabre tooth cats, and Neanderthal man along with skeletons and animatronic heads, this exhibition promises to be as engaging as it is visually spectacular.

Tiny Tot Explorers: Sensory Play FREE Thursday 13 October Morning session 10.30am – 11.30am Afternoon session 1.00pm – 2.00pm This messy play session for children aged 1-3 is inspired by some of the weird and wonderful objects in our collection. There will be wet and dry materials and sensory textures for the children to explore. Booking is essential as spaces are limited, please call 024 7629 4774.

October half-term: Precious Things FREE 24 – 28 October Drop in anytime between 10.30am – 12.30pm & 1.30pm – 3.30pm A hidden mouse in a painting, a mummified cat…the Herbert has collected many objects that are precious to people for different reasons.
