The Top 5 Communication Skills Used by Leaders Do you have di culty expressing yourself? Adopt, practice, and master the communication skills required for e ective leadership. If you work hard, you can learn all of these same skills! Without e ective communication, success in your professional or personal life will be challenging to achieve.

To help improve your essential communication skills, follow these strategies:

1. Learn to pay attention. Leaders know that communication is built on communication skills, listening skills being at the top of that list. Appreciate the opportunity to listen and become interested in others' stories.

• Do your best to concentrate on what the other person is saying. Give each person your full attention in one conversation at a time. Look at the person speaking and not your phone or other distractions.

• To improve your listening skills, repeat to yourself the person's story.

• No one wants to be overlooked. They will realize that you are genuinely listening to them, and they will eventually stop talking to you as a result.

2. Don't use slang or colloquialisms. Slang and other informal language are typical to use with family and friends. In a business context, however, a more formal language set is required. Be aware of who you're speaking to and adjust accordingly.

• People who aren't well-versed in informal language or slang may have a hard time feeling comfortable with it.

3. Be brief. Getting to the point is critical. Top leaders know that an e ective speech does not have to be lengthy.

• Get your point across in as few words and as little time as possible.

• People appreciate short, simple conversations, and they respect those who keep their points to the point.

• While talking, however, you should still be providing the necessary information. In short, you don't want to be unclear or neglect essential facts.
