Top 20 Tips to Adults can easily fall into the trap of procrastination. Inevitably, there are tasks or projects at home or at work that we do not want to complete. They're tedious, complex, or appear to be unimportant. We all had moments of procrastination as children; after all, how many times did your mother have to hound you to clean your room? We live in a world where instant entertainment is readily available. Turn on the television, radio, or iPod. All of these enjoyable distractions may eventually prevent us from completing our assigned tasks. However, this approach quickly leads to nowhere!

What is Time Management? Each person is allotted only 24 hours per day. What separates procrastinators from proficient time managers is how they choose to spend their time. Learning time management techniques will assist you in planning your day so that you are aware of everything that needs to be accomplished. It's much easier to motivate yourself in the morning when you know what your day will entail. Otherwise, you'll waste valuable time pottering around in your pajamas, unsure of what to do, and before you know it, it'll be lunchtime, and your morning has been squandered. Denial will not make your work disappear; instead, it will increase your stress level if you are pressed for time to meet a deadline. Rather than stressing yourself out, let's discuss some time management tips for breaking the procrastination habit and increasing productivity!

Time Management Requires ACTION! Procrastinators, beware: to manage your time effectively and be more productive throughout the day, you MUST take action! It's pretty straightforward. However, it is usually the time when we procrastinate that we develop the desire to act. Let's begin simply with a few fundamental tips. Begin by making one change per week, and you'll see results sooner than you believe! 1. Get your day started early. Do you roll out of bed each morning after pressing the snooze button five times only to realize you're already late for work? What about weekends? Do you get a full night's sleep on both days? • Constantly forcing yourself to wake up on time without rushing will leave you feeling refreshed and less stressed. Maintaining this schedule on weekends will result in additional hours of productivity. Therefore, get up, dress, and go! 2. Prioritize your tasks. It may be prudent, to begin with, the most challenging task. When you start early in the day, you will have more energy to complete the task and feel more accomplished and less stressed once the large project is completed. Others believe that achieving a large number of smaller tasks first is preferable because you'll gain momentum and check more items off your to-do list, which will make you feel more productive. • Finally, there is no right or wrong way to prioritize your tasks; the best method is the one that motivates you to complete the work. After you've lifted your spirit, you'll feel more optimistic and productive. 3. Use calendars or daily planners. There is genuinely no reason to be disorganized or miss deadlines with the variety of calendars and planners available. Because not everyone benefits from the same type of planner, take your time and determine which system is right for you. Whether you use traditional paper, an electronic PDA, or a webbased application, keep track of all your deadlines and activities and identify any gaps so you can treat yourself.

• Calendars and planners are only helpful if they are used regularly. Plan your exercise classes and double-check your calendar before booking lunch with a friend. Bring your planner along to jot down important dates. Within a few days, you'll develop a new habit, and planning will become second nature. 4. Set and respect deadlines. If you're one of the many people who becomes stressed when a deadline approaches, factor in some extra time to complete the job ahead of schedule. If you miss a deadline at work, your boss holds you accountable, but what about all those unfinished projects at home? Engage a friend or spouse to assist you in completing these dreaded tasks. Accepting your mistakes is complex, and as a result, you'll work harder to avoid informing a partner that you missed another deadline.

5. Focus on one thing at a time. For years, experts extolled the virtues of "multitasking," praising those who can juggle ten different tasks concurrently. Recent research indicates that multitasking frequently degrades the quality of work, even when completed ahead of schedule. • Which sounds more productive: writing a five-page report in an hour or three hours while also responding to emails and phone calls? Concentrate on completing one task at a time to ensure that you get things done and off your plate. 6. Limit your distractions. Are you an addict to computer solitaire, or are you constantly checking your email or instant messages every five minutes? Turning off email and instant messaging while you work and minimizing background distractions can help you focus on the task at hand. You'll be surprised at how much more work you can accomplish without being interrupted every five minutes. • Specific individuals will argue that music helps them think and concentrate better. Unless you find yourself singing more than you work, there is no reason to turn off the music if this method works for you. That is a fairly clear indication that you should refocus your efforts on something other than the music.
