DCCW meets for 46th convention, ~ Presenters focus on theme: 'One Bread,

One Body, One Lord of all: Hope for the Family in the New Millennium.' By JAMES N. DUNBAR TAUNTON - There's no doubt that the Catholic woman in today's Church plays a prominent role in keeping the Body of Christ vibrant and enduring in her parish and in her family life.

Many variations on themes of the love, dedication and responsibilities of women working in union with Christ, were at forefront of the talks and workshops at the 46th annual convention of the Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Women held May 6 at Coyle and Cassidy High School here. More than 200 women, representing 45 of the parishes in the diocese, attended the all-day event, which included Mass celebrated by Bishop Sean P. O'Malley; OFM Cap. Turn to page 13 - DCCW

World Day of Prayer for Vocations is Sunday ~

Special program at the Family Life Center in North Dartmouth offers an opportunity to learn about vocations.

NORTH DARTMOUTH - Pope John Paul II invites everyone in the Church to pray for vocations to the ordained and consecrated life this Sunday, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, which coincides with Mother's Day. In the hope that more young people will respond generously to God's call, a program "Building Bridges -:... Vocations for the 21 st Century" that includes prayer and a presentation, will

be take place Sunday, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Family Life Center in North Dartmouth. "It will offer the opportUility to learn more about vocations," said Father Craig A. Pregana, vocations director for the Diocese of Fall River. "I invite anyone considering a vocation to come and join us on Sunday." In a recent letter to pastors across the diocese, Father Pregana urged support in encouraging parishioners to pray for vocations on Sunday, and to foster candidates to the religious life. .The good news, said Father Pregana, is that-currently there are 21 seminarians preparing for the priesthood and that six men will be ordained priests in June.

Pope John Paul in his jubilee year message callior vocations, said: "Dear young people ... the world needs young people capable of 'building bridges' to unite and reconcile ... men and women are needed who believe in life and accept it as a call that comes'from above, from God who calls ... only courageous young people, with minds and hearts .open to high and generous ideals, who will be able to restore beauty and truth to life and to human relationships. Then this jubilee time will truly be for all a 'year of the Lord's grace,' a jubilee of vocation."
