Final Diocesan Tribute To Venerable Prelate To a congregation in Mt. Carmel Church, New Bedford, . that overflowed into the bordering streets, Rt. Rev. Hum­ berto S. Medeiros, Diocesan Chancellor and pastor of St., Michael's Church, Fall River, painted a word picture in a eulogy that will make the late Monsignor Antonio P. Vieira live forever in the minds of the hearers. Msgr. Vieira, 98 years of age and a priest 75 years, died in Mt. Car­ mel Rectory Goo d F rid a y morning after a brief illness. Taking his text from the 20th ehapter of St. Matthew's Gospel - "The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and gave His life for the redemption of many" - the eulogist stated: -Monsignor Vieira passed his whole life in the service of truth which frees man and in the ser­ ~ice of life which leads to eter­ nal happiness." "He was a priest, and in the ehurch of Christ, a priest exer­ cises a function which is con­ fided to him by the same Church.
