What To Do with Assets Bubbled?

This is a tricky question. Going along and take the long positions or betting against the market and take the short positions, preparing for creative destructions. As has been said before, the stock markets only know one thing, going up and up. The central banks and the governments are in the position to prop up their own economies, at all costs. That includes the financial markets of their own.

In the past, you can bet against the market and win. Soros simply won his bets against GBP in 1992 due to the smaller capacity, capability, knowledge, and skills of the people running Bank of England, likewise the central bank itself. BoE and the UK government put some distance with the financial markets, let the market dictates their own interest rate and rig the LIBOR. The 2008 SPM crisis has taught and enabled central banks in the world to create their own funny money in their virtual vaults. Lower interest rates with longer term of maturity are their tools to lock up their funny money in the cage, and remain on the leash. Primary dealers and markets makers must oblige and comply with the ruling authorities that become more territorial and assertive.

Bullish stockmarkets present worldwide, likewise LSE. Although the stock market indices in London Stock Exchange such as FTSE-100 and/or FTSE All-Share appears to be going well and performing, it does not help its currency to stability, but remain volatile. The Brexit issue has dampened the value of sterling eversince the referendum was taken.

Decades of false balance sounded by the prominent media in the UK such as The Sun, the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph, Daily Express, and BBC, surely brought some bolsters to the conservatives to win the vote for Brexit. Two days before the ballot, Soros had warned that the Brexit will cause a much more devastating impact to the value of sterling.

As sterling could fall below $1.15, the Brexit devaluation was deemed to be much bigger and more disruptive than the 15% devaluation that occurred in September 1992. As 1 sterling equals to 1 euro, it is an irony that contradicts to the prevailing and intended purpose of vote for Brexit. The already poor voters and ordinary Brits would suffer serious consequences.

Many had cited that Soros took a long game on sterling and favoured the Brits to remain in the EU. Even Soros’ spokesman asserted that Soros was not against sterling. Yet, none knows the amount of worth that Soros had won in betting on Brexit. The winning vote to leave left Crispin Odey a personal fortune of more than £220m, whilst his Odey Asset management put a bet of £7.5b on Brexit.

What people know that Soros bought some stake in Barrick Gold and acquired options to buy the GLD exchange-traded fund, tracking how much gold is worth. In the 2016q1, Soros bought a 1.7%

Sando Sasako stake in Barrick Gold, equal to more than 19m shares, worth $264m; and kept 2.85m shares worth $50.5m in 2016q3, and liquidated it completely in 2016q4.

In contrast, failed attempts were experienced by Kyle Bass who declared publicly of shorting yuan due to the nature of monstrous credit bubble in China that about to implode. The $4t reserves of PBoC is not something you can bet against. Even so, the abiliy of PBoC to create and distribute mountainous funny money to the primary dealers and market makers they own, authoritatively.

PBoC has no objection to keep funding and refinancing zombie companies having non-perfoming loans. As long as the bad debt-fueled economies can create and grow, and offer some sort of sustained stability in the financial markets, PBoC will do what it takes. Even its economy has reached its peak and moved to the stage of diminishing returns and economic growth.

The volatile sterling against the dollar and euro The glorious past has become a vote of confidence to separate the UK from the EU. That includes the issues of sovereignty and euroscepticism against europhilia. The most favoured class to leave the EU is older, white, socially conservative, more economically marginal neighbourhoods, high degrees of social deprivation, and low educational attainment.

The referendum taken on 23 June 2016 hammered down the sterling from its recent peak of €1.4415/£ on 17 July 2015 to its trough of €1.0967/£ on 11 October 2016. Another trough was reached on 29 August 2017 with a level of €1.0792/£. However, it was not the lowest value of sterling against euro, which occurred on 30 December 2008 at the level of €1.0259/£. The average rate of euro against sterling was at €1.3699/£, the median value at €1.40505/£; and the maximum value at €1.7435/£, occurred on 3 May 2000.

With lesser euro for a sterling, euro appears to be more expensive than the US dollar. The plummeting sterling also applies to the dollar as it reached a new low on 16 January 2017 at a level of $1.2048/£.

However, by extending the past data to early 1971, the lowest trough of the sterling against dollar occurred on 26 February 1985 at the level of $1.052/£.

The average rate of US dollar against sterling was at $1.6344/£, the median value at $1.6093/£; and the maximum value at $2.1078/£, occurred on 8 November 2007. By extending the historial data to 3

The Special Drawing Rights The SDR was created by the IMF in 1969 as a supplementary international reserve asset, in the context of the Bretton Woods fixed exchange rate system. The SDR was initially valued at 0.888671 grams of fine gold per US dollar. The collapsed Bretton Woods system in 1973 triggered major currencies to implement the floating exchange rate regimes, and redefined SDR as a basket of 16 currencies.

The 16 currencies involved in determining the SDR value was valid for the period of July 1974 to December 1980. From January 1981 until the birth of the euro, the currency basket comprised of 5 currencies, that is USD, the Deutsche mark (DM), the French franc (FFr, ₣), the British pound (GBP), and the Japanese yen (¥).

When introduced in January 1999, the euro replaced the DM and FFr; the currency basket was then composed of the USD, €, £, and the Japanese yen (¥). As of 1 October 2016, the SDR included the Chinese Renminbi (￥)1 in the currency basket. The 3 -month benchmark yield for China Treasury bonds will serve as the RMB-denominated instrument in the SDR interest rate basket.

The currency basket is re-evaluated every 5 years, along with their weights as FX reserve asset and set the currency as the 4th largest exports unit. The 4th largest export unit and free to use is the criteria for any currency to be counted in the SDR. Likewise the status of currency issuer, that is as an IMF member or Monetary Unions.

The free to use criteria is different from the mechanics of currency movement in the market, either freely floating or fully convertible. Sando Sasako requires interpretation, and the IMF Executive Board has relied on quantitative indicators to inform this judgment.

The other criteria includes the following financial indicators, in equal shares, the official reserves denominated in the member’s (or monetary union’s) currency that are held by other monetary authorities that are not issuers of the relevant currency, FX turnover in the currency, and the sum of outstanding international bank liabilities and international debt securities denominated in the currency.

Effective on 1 October 2016, the weights were calculated on the basis of the average exchange rates for these currencies over the 3 months ending on 30 September 2016. It is to ensure the SDR value in terms of the U.S. dollar will be the same on 30 September 2016 under the current and revised valuation baskets.

The new currency amounts will remain fixed over the next 5-year SDR valuation period, but the daily SDR valuation.2 Since currency amounts are fixed, the relative weight of currencies in the SDR basket can change during a valuation period, with weights rising (falling) for the currencies that appreciate (depreciate) relative to other currencies over time.

The next review of the method of valuation of the SDR will take place by 30 September 2021, unless an earlier review is warranted by developments in the interim. The method of valuation is determined by a 70% majority of the total voting power. The 85% majority is required for (i) a change in the principle of valuation, or (ii) a fundamental change in the application of the principle in effect.

Yuan Internationalisation The internationalisation of yuan comes under heavy pressure through the growing capital outflows.

Some capital flights have been allowed through programs approved by the Chinese government and PBoC and in limited amounts. The most favoured methods are buying insurance policies and overseas property.

As a pledge to make yuan fully convertible in 2020, some countries have become the yuan trading hubs. Some other countries, through the respective central banks, have also made offshore yuan’s swap line. Yet, CNY strict currency control has been allowed to be traded on a 2% change, with daily fixing is set by the PBoC. In November 2015, the CNH swap line reached an amount of ￥3.3t. Trading settlement of CNH has been set and operated in New York, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Seoul, Luxembourg, Doha, Sydney, Toronto; Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok.3 Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore have been recognised as the largest CNH deposit markets.

In an effort to reduce vulnerability of currency swing and money flows that could aggravate China’s economic slowdown, by the end of 2016, the CFETS (China Foreign Exchange Trade System) diluted the role of the dollar in a trade-weighted foreign-exchange basket, by adding other 11 currencies. The dollar weight was reduced from 26.4% to 22.4% and became effective on 1 January 2017.

The new currency basket set by the CFETS was based on 2015 annual data of China’s major trading partners. In doing so, the CFETS will also refer to the currency baskets of BIS and SDR. That included

Sando Sasako the RMB exchange rate index of both BIS and SDR currency baskets, as necessary. Whilst the 2021 reference and weight of both BIS and SDR currency baskets remains unchanged.

However, the weighting of the basket will be evaluated on an annual basis and updated when necessary at the appropriate time. The new currency basket was boasted to be more comprehensive and a better reflection of China’s trade relations. It is to create some stability of yuan value in the mainland, mostly. It was set firstly in December 2015 in the wake of an unexpected devaluation.

Some Background I was a little bit surprised by mid July 2017 to notify that Bank Rakyat Indonesia’s assets has exceeded Bank Mandiri as of April 2017. It led to other questions since when and how about the other SOE’s banks and Bank Central Asia. Some backtracking reveals that it was since October 2014, BRI’s assets began exceeding Bank Mandiri. Their assets were IDR 712.45 trillion and IDR 707.97 accordingly.

With IDR 1,000 trillion of assets, about IDR 996 trillion as of May 2017 to be precise, Bank BRI has transformed itself to be a behemoth, a gigantic animal. It means they are and get even hungrier, more starving than ever before. They’d call it, used to call it, pressures, burdens. Let me tell you about a fable, a tale.

Let me take you to the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, or whatever you know and excited about. A whale. A shark. What do they tell you in common? Let’s change the animal type to a tiger and lions. One with an a, the other with an s. An individual versus a herd, the herd instinct.

Lions orchestrate their attacks on selected, particular individual buffalo, elephant, giraffe, or any prey. We know nothing on how they communicate, surely not in any human language, especially in English, how the herd pick and target the victim, one specific interest, potential candidate.

They slowly move, split, and distancing themselves whilst preparing and get ready to make an attack and ambush their prey. One prey. One big prey. Enough to feed them all, for some time.

It means that they must have been coordinating and planning and doing it on a regular basis.

Some regular basis. Silently. They need to eat to stay alive and preserve their lives.

Now, apply and implement the analysis on Bank Rakyat Indonesia. To begin with, we used to think simple. Do the math. Let’s see their structures. The assets, the capital, the debts, the cash.

How do BRI grab the cash? There are signs, marks, traffic, traffic lights, trafficking. What do they traffick?

Which one is worth? Which deal is worth the risk? The elephant risk? What is the most frenemy of an elephant? An ant. Talking about the ant is always associated with its herd. An army. An arm with a y letter. A bare hand. Ready to battle. At all times. There must be a queen. There must be scouts. There are logistics. Chains. Networks. How do ants operate? There are martyrs.

Okay. Let’s scrap it out. Enough for today’s lesson. and enlightenment.

The Authentication and Authorisation Some sites are heavily scripted. Some even have pushed to extract the HTML5 canvas image data as it can be used to uniquely identify our computer, for every user coming, requesting the site’s web server to respond. On the other hand, some browsers have been equipped with ‘no script’ add-on, just like the TOR browser.

Having identified the browser has disabled their unique script to function to run and perform and provide feedback as required and needed to extract user data’s credentials, the web server will launch and initiate a CAPTCHA to validate if a human is indeed making the request or not.

Some captcha can be figured out easily. Some are not.

Most Australian websites have been intentionally and notoriously denying computers’ access from Indonesian IP addresses. Some Australian domains can be easily tricked by using the TOR browser. Some others implement the captcha filter that is definitely can’t be figured out. To skip this ridiculous captcha, none is better than to disable the ‘no script’ add-on, restart the TOR browser, and revisit the url. The browser will tell you then that such web server is so eager to know your unique computer, such as MAC address or elses.

The user data credentials can take the forms of IP address, username and password, nonce, url, http method, or others required by the web servers. The IP address can reveal your identity, at least by internet service provider (ISP) name, domain name, client server name, hostname, organisational identities such as name and location (of originating access).

User data credentials are somewhat an authentication tool. As they are validated, the web server will provide some authorisation to the user, web surfer, to get access to the resources provided by the web server(s). The mechanics of authentication and authorisation is an internet protocol operating on the application layer, securing the data communication between the web server and the browser.

As the browser or the client is talking to the web server, the client presents a list of supported cipher suites (ciphers and hash functions). The browser is asking the web server to provide the information required, provided by or in the SERP. The web server will pick their desired cipher and hash function and generates cipher and session key.

The web server will respond by sending its identification in the form of a digital certificate, the SSL certificate. The certificate contains the server name, the trusted certificate authority (CA), and the server's public encryption key. Both client’s browser and web server will validate each other the information exchanged. Denied access is given immediately and directly by any party unsatisfied during the communication process.

For example, the browser will immediately display a warning from any link clicked within a website logged in or from any SERP. Even if you want to reset the password, the website’s server donot do what they claim to, such as sending a new password and/or a reset link. Here is the warning claim: “Deceptive Site! This web page at pdfsr.com has been reported as a deceptive site and has been blocked based on your security preferences. Deceptive sites are designed to trick you into doing something dangerous, like installing software, or revealing your personal information, like passwords, phone numbers or credit cards. Entering any information on this web page may result in identity theft or other fraud.”

On the other hand, the web server will take forever to respond to the request sent by the browser.

In late July 2017, the IDX web server refused to display the profile of BRI. Even the supposedly to display the company profile uploaded in pdf. Is my IP address also blocked to access the IDX website? The answer was a yes, as I knew then that the TOR browser with different IP address was granted access to see it thru.

In the meantime, Google Chrome team and Mozilla engineers had found that Symantec had misissued more than 30,000 SSL certificates, by doing shady SSL issuance practices. Google then announced an intention to gradually remove support for Symantec certificates in Chrome browser.1 Under Chrome's hood, Google will remove the Symantec's root SSL certificate. SSL certificates are like giant trees with countless of branches, all converging back to the root certificate. Once this certificate is removed, all certificates attached to this root will stop working too. It includes other CAs bought by Symantec such as GeoTrust, Thawte, and RapidSSL. Until Symantec revamps its SSL issuance procedures and comes up with a system that more secure and reliable, it's highly unlikely that Google will allow a new Symantec root certificate in Chrome again. In a similar decision, in November 2016, Google has untrusted the certificates of WoSign and StartCom.2

How this report proceeds and gets distinguished Like any other cashing in efforts, corporate raiders are more welcomed these days. Side businesses and moonlightings are the ones they are after. They're not trying to get messy with the parent company's businesses, but a more wide and deep access to the unthinkable on papers.

Capitalising on stock rides, either in upward and/or downward turns, is just a bonus.

The deep dives in this report are carried on to what had been published publicly by Bank Rakyat Indonesia, either legal documents and/or financial documents. Some intelligence gathering techniques3 have been implemented all the way down. Although, the term used in this report is not what actually defined by the MI5.

The MI5’s principal techniques for gathering intelligence are:4 1. Covert Human Intelligence Sources or “agents”. Agents are people who are able to provide secret information about a target of an investigation. Agents are not MI5 employees; 2. Directed surveillance, such as following and/or observing targets; 3. Interception of communications, such as monitoring emails or phone calls; 4. Communications data (including use of bulk communications data), information about communications, such as “how and when” they were made, which is usually obtained from communications service providers; 5. Bulk personal data, datasets containing information about a large number of people which can be accessed in a targeted way to identify or find information about subject of interest; 6. Intrusive surveillance, such as putting eavesdropping devices in someone's home or car; and 7. Equipment interference, such as covertly accessing computers or other devices.

This report tries to be a business intelligence report, providing new insights that can empower the reader of this report to make faster, more informed business decisions.
