By FRANKIE WEBB Horowhenua may have divided electoral boundaries but there was no division in their choice of leadership with both Otaki and Rangitikei voting to retain National MPs. Last year’s boundary changes saw Otaki surrender 2400 voters to the Rangitikei electorate, a seat held by National MP Ian McKelvie since 2011. Mr McKelvie entered into Parliament following a nine year career in local politics as Mayor of the Manawatu District. Otaki voted to retain Nathan Guy as MP for a third term and Mr McKelvie was returned to Rangitikei for a second term. Late last year the Representation Commission released boundaries for 2014 electorates. Rangitikei, despite being one of the largest electorates was shown in census results to be far below the average population for electorates. A boundary change to compensate saw the Otaki electorate lose 2400 voters in and around Shannon and Tokomaru as they were moved into Rangitikei. Rangitikei stretches from south of Palmerston North up to the Ruapehu District, and the towns of Raetihi and

Rangitikei was not far behind on 81.41 per cent. The number of seats in Parliament 121. National Party has 60 seats in total, losing one since election
night. The only other change is the Green Party gained one list seat since election night, 14 seats in total. All electorate candidates leading on election night have been confirmed as winning their seats. The turnout as a percentage of enrolled electors is 77.9 percent (2011 — 74.2 percent). The final enrolment rate is 92.6 percent (2011 — 93.7 percent). ■ The Electoral Commission has declared the official results for the 2014 General Election.
