Dinner charity raises $6000 More than $6000 was raised for needy people in the community during a fundraiser at The Eastern Egret restaurant on Sunday. The event, put on by Our Lady of Kapiti Events, attracted 100 people who enjoyed listening to comedian Pinky Agnew, playwright Dave Armstrong, former Fair Go frontman Kevin Milne and columist Karl du Fresne poke fun at radio legend Justin du Fresne who has recently retired. Justin took in the good natured banter and managed to have the last word. The fun filled afternoon also featured a sumptuous Cantonese banquet, an auction of 24 items, and a raffle featuring dinner for eight catered for by Party Perfect. Former Prime Minister Jim Bolger, who was the MC for the event, presented restaurant owner Sadie Wong with a painting [by Vincent Duncan] as appreciation to her commitment to the event and the 25 years she has run the popular Waikanae restaurant.

wall up,” Mrs Patten said. She said the slope is set to
save the agency around $3.4 million, as well as “beautify” the landscape. Hoping to have the cost of double glazing installation covered if the sloping goes through, Mrs Patten said “with the money the agency would save, they should do the right thing and cover the up to $7000 for glazing.” Although the pair has put in several written submissions for double glazing, they have so far been denied. The couple were informed by agency staff that a “retaining wall was not consistent with urban design, and would draw criminal activity” such as graffiti. “Ideally we’d like them to put in the retaining wall and leave the houses where they
