invites women to dress in their best afternoon tea attire, and enjoy decedent food and tea, stalls, guest speakers, entertainment, raffles and spot prizes. Included in the raffles will be art work from well known local artist Debbie Pointon, the book ‘A String of Pearls’ by Joan Ellis and a painting by Pauline Medhurst. `The theme is a string of pearls, which will be present in the music and entertainment,’’ organiser Lynne Shepherd said. ``One of the features we have is a lady coming to talk to guests about the care of their pearls. ‘’Raising money for the refurbishment of Kapiti’s Mary Potter Hospice kitchen, co-organiser Shirley Hertnon said String of Pearls is about supporting volunteer cooks who look after the charity’s patients. ``We’d like to improve the kitchen layout so it’s more userfriendly for the volunteer cooks, who have been making delicious lunches for the past 15 years,’’ Mrs Hertnon said. ``Hospice gives support to patients and their carers, and its services cannot survive without local community support,’’ Mrs Hertnon said.
