It’s amazing how quickly the end of the year comes round and we’re all ready to take a break from the rigours of working life and other challenges we face on a daily basis.

Locals may well be going further afield, but I’m sure many of you will remain in Kāpiti for at least some of the summer holidays. A number of people will be staying in their baches here and no doubt we’ll have plenty of visitors travelling through the district.

The Kāpiti Coast is a great place in which to spend your down time. As you can see from this guide, there is a huge range of events and activities planned for summer – everything from garden shows to art exhibitions and bowling days to cultural performances.

Have a browse through the guide to see exactly what’s on and what you might like to see. Even better, invite friends from outside the district to stay and experience the many things we have to offer with you!

As well as the events and activities outlined, our 40 kms of unspoilt beaches are there to enjoy whether you want to swim, sail, surf or fish, or simply sit on the sand, relax and admire the view.

We also have stunning nature walks, heritage trails and cycle tracks at our fingertips, native bush and birds, world-class golfing, several niche museums, vibrant and colourful towns, and a warm climate.

Join in with our Ranger for the day and follow the daily routine of the staff for your behind the scenes look at Nga Manu Nature reserve, max two children per day, fee applies, bookings required. Eel feeding is daily at 2pm, standard entry fee, no extra charge for viewing the eel feeding. Waikanae Estuary Care Group Saturdays – 9am to noon

The Waikanae estuary is a significant habitat for wading and migratory birds.

The group meets fortnightly on, to restore the native plant habitat in the estuary. On arrival, look for WECG flag.

Cancellations are broadcast on Beach FM on the day. A “meet and greet” person will welcome all-comers at 9am. Under 15 years must be supervised. The railway hosts a collection of live steam, internal combustion and battery electric locomotives. The track is a double loop and includes one station, two tunnels, two spirals and two viaducts in a run of about ½ kilometre.

Kapiti Aeromodellers Club Annual Rally

Members of the public are welcome on both days – flying officially begins about 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free, but a donation to help cover costs is always appreciated.
