Group formed to oppose road upgrades BY GRACE CABELL St Albans residents concerned about road upgrades to the area are taking a stand. A group called the Northern Arterial Extension and Cranford St Upgrade Action Group has been made opposing the road changes. At the Shirley-Papanui Community Board meeting this Wednesday representatives from the St Albans Residents’ Association will also attend to give the community board their views on the road upgrades. The action group was formed following a city council decision

to upgrade the Northern Arterial Extension and Cranford St to ease travel to and from areas north of the city. As part of the project the city council would increase capacity by widening a 700m stretch of Cranford St, north of its intersection with Innes Rd to four lanes. Residents’ association cochairwoman Emma Twaddell said if the plan was to go ahead there would be no going back for the effect it would have on St Albans. “The plan is faulty,” she said.
