In2004,KriefstartedwiththecreationofNTP (NiceToPeople)andproposedasmallDVDplayer
Kriefbought10othercompaniesforindustrial purposes,boiling,machining,plasticinjection, forming,compositematerials,andhehadmore than110employees.
However,Krieflaterrealizedthatifacompanydoes nothaveatargettocreatesomethinggoodforthe environment,fortheworld,forsociety,allthe workcanbefornothing(socialtargets).Thelast purchaseKriefmade,weretheassetsofNew Wind,acompanythatwasbankruptin2016,and toseehowhewasabletoenhanceaproduct called“Aeroleaf”.
Hefeltthatthemarketforrenewableenergyisnotjusta localmarketbutaglobalone.From2017,NewWorld Windsoldmorethan150solutionsallovertheworld, signedmorethan40partnershipsandispresentinalmost 60differentcountries.
“Thechallengetocreateanewproductwithbenefitsfor peopleandtheplanetissoamazing,Iwanttocontinue onthiswaytoproposebestsolutionsforabetterworld,” Kriefasserts.
Whenaskedabouttheskillsnecessaryforsuccessinthe smartturbinetechnologyspace,Kriefsaid,“Curiosity, emphasiswithmyteam,listentherequestsfromour prospectsandcustomersandeveryday,thinkwecanbe bettertomorrow.”
WeaskedKrieftonarrateaparticularlydifficult decisionhehadtomakeinhiscareer,towhichhe said,“Whenyouareataleadershippositionand responsibleofateam,youalwayshavestrongor harddecisionstotake.Dismissalsorclosingaplant orafactoryarenoteasydecisions,andwhenyou doit,youknowthatyouaregoingtoputpeoplein difficulties.”
“Howdoyoudeterminewhatisthewrongorthebest decision?Howdoyoudecidewhowillbeconcerned?I hadtoclose2factoriesinmycareerbecauseIwas compelledtodoso.TheMarketwasinaslumpand customersarenotsofair.Ididittopreservetheother companies,itwaswhatIhadtodo.Itwascomplicated becauseeachcompanywaslikea“child”forme,andI knewalltheworkers.Butthevolitiontogoaheadwas strongest,”Kriefadded.
TalkingaboutthechallengeshefaceswhilerunningNew WorldWind,Kriefsays,“Themostprominentchallenge isfindingaproductwhichcanrespondtoallusesatthe bestcost.Weknowthatwithclimatechangeand resultingenergyproduction,itwillbeaproblemto satisfyallpeoplearoundtheworld.”
“So,wehavetodevelopsmartgridstoproposesmart solutionswhichcanbeeasilydeployedandproposethe bestperformances.WedidanexperiencewithaSpanish lifebaseinAntarctica.Ireallythinkthiskindof experiencecanbedeployedwherepeoplearefarfrom civilizationandwheretheyneedenergytolive.”
Whenitcomestofindingsolutionstosustaina business,Kriefbelievesthatcompetitionisthebest challenge.Heacknowledgesthefactthatacompany mustbeupdatedwiththelatesttechandtrendsto developandenhanceitsproducts.Andthat'swhy it'snecessarytoknowone'scompetitors.Tobe
