Floating production and subsea specialist Crondall Energy has created a Joint Industry Network to address experiences and challenges relating to the interaction between subsea pipelines and the seabed.

Churchill Drilling Tools

BLUW-JIN (Buckling, Lateral or Upheaval & Walking of Pipelines – a Joint Industry Network) is a forum for oil and gas operator members to share and discuss their experiences and learn from other members about challenges in the field of pipeline buckling and walking, including design issues, operational challenges and how these challenges have been overcome. Crondall Energy organises and facilitates two BLUW-JIN meetings each year. The BLUW-JIN steering committee, formed by one individual from each member company and co-ordinated by Crondall Energy, will decide the content for each meeting. The unique dart activated HyPR HoleSaver™ enables operators to recover quickly and safely from stuck pipe incidents, which can add millions of dollars to the costs of an operator’s campaign. To recover from a previous stuck pipe incident in the same well Churchill’s client, a UAE based operator, contracted high energy source cutting services. However, the additional equipment, personnel and logistics cost two days of valuable rig time. So, when the operator became ‘differentially stuck’ in the same well at 12,785ft on 28 May due to heavy losses, the team were ready with the HyPR HoleSaver™ to sever, plug and abandon the section much more quickly. The simple HyPR™ system requires no additional topside equipment or personnel.

Important lessons have been learned, including how best to mitigate against unacceptable behaviour. It is time that these lessons were shared with a wider audience, to provide guidance on future projects and improve the integrity of existing pipeline systems. David Bruton, BLUW-JIN founder and Crondall Energy Director

The first BLUW-JIN meeting was held in May 2019 in London. The next meeting is planned to take place in Houston before Christmas and will be held at the offices of a member operator.

MAN ES UK Ltd commissions LNG-fired engine power plant

MAN Energy Solutions has successfully commissioned three 14V51/60 gas and another three dualfuel engines in the newly constructed power plant in Gibraltar. Each of the engines can generate an output of approximately 14MW. The power plant on the North Mole in Gibraltar Harbour will form the backbone of the British overseas territory’s future power supply. A part of the waste heat from the engines will additionally be used for regasifying liquefied natural gas in the connected LNG terminal. The use of combined heat and power increases the overall efficiency of the plant.
