Forthcoming Event
Regional Showcase Opportunities in Canada Thursday 28 January 2016 Houston venue tbc This event will outline the existing and future supply chain opportunities with operators and contractors, provide guidance on how to do business in Canada, and case studies on companies who have been successful in the market. A major theme of this showcase is positioning members now for future opportunities in the region.
In October we delivered the 6th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament and BBQ at American Shooting Centers, bringing 40 of our members and non-members together for an afternoon of networking and friendly competition. We could not have delivered this event without our valuable sponsors Alco Valves US, Kurvers Piping and Fluorocarbon Inc. On 22 October, we held our Fundamentals of LNG training course presented by Malcolm Johnson of eMJay LNG Ltd. All the attendees found the course highly informative.

ConocoPhillips to end deepwater exploration In response to the industry downcycle, the world’s largest independent operator will end searching for oil and gas in deepwater fields by 2017. ConocoPhillips has 2.2 million acres in Gulf of Mexico leases, and its strategy includes reassessing these assets and selling off the leases where the company has no plans to drill. Appraisal activities currently underway will continue, as will funding to existing commitments. Whether or not it will develop its offshore discoveries has yet to be decided. Keystone XL pipeline formally rejected The controversial TransCanada pipeline, which would transport oil sands crude from Alberta to Texas, has officially been denied approval by the Obama administration after seven years in limbo. The company is exploring its remaining options, which include reapplying for a permit after the next US presidential election. The company is heavily invested in this project because it has already spent US$2.6bn on preparations and property.
In November we welcomed Bill Westcott (pictured above) Director of Business Development at INTECSEA to host Opportunities with INTECSEA; 23 delegates from 17 member companies attended the event. We continue to monitor industry trends, projects and opportunities in Mexico and Canada. Our team attended several Houston-Mexico Energy Group events for networking opportunities and market intelligence around the power sector in Mexico. We were also part of a roundtable, engaging key contacts from Wood Group and Schlumberger in Mexico. Canadian Atlantic offshore opportunities are a key area. I attended a roundtable in Calgary in October, which focused on the energy sector’s role in domestic affairs and international oil and gas markets, making key contacts in the region. Look out for the Regional Showcase on Canada on 28 January 2016.
KinderMorgan and TrailStone form Mexican company Subsidiaries of the two companies signed a JV letter of intent in which they will combine North American gas supply and transportation to provide competitivelypriced gas to industrial markets and power plants in the Monterrey area and to other Mexican markets accessed via the national system of gas pipelines, to be owned and operated by CENEGAS. TrailStone will manage and operate the JV. Wind Energy dominates new US power Wind energy provided more new US electrical generating capacity than any other resource did during the first nine months of 2015. Furthermore, the combined capacity from renewable energy sources during the first three quarters of the year made up 60.20% of the 7,276MW of new generation placed in service. Wind power accounted for 2,966MW, or more than 40.76% of all new US capacity, followed by solar with 1,137MW, biomass with 205MW, geothermal with 45MW, and hydropower with 27MW.
In other news, we were delighted to attend the BABC Houston Business Awards in October, and celebrate EIC Global Member Turner & Townsend’s success, as the recipient of the BABC’s Large Corporate Award for excellence in transatlantic trade.
