Saturday night the Tavistock Men’s and Ladies Bowling Banquet and Dance was held in the Memorial Hail bringing to an end the bowling season for 1977-78. Trophies and awards were presented to the individuals and teams, and among the winners of the Ladies League are shown above. Lana Hilderley, left, won the high triple trophy with her 777 score. Shirley Steinman, centre won the high single; with a 338 score. Pearl Wilker won the high average award with 208 and also had scored 338 on a single game. Winners of the winning team were the Polar Bears: Ardis Herman, Norma Cardiff, Elaine Vogt, Marie Paton, Jean Stere and subs, Connie Yausie, Mary Jane Wettlaufer, and Linda Wilker. Most Improved Bowler award went to Elaine Campbell. She improved her average by 31 points. Incoming executive for the next season will be Dianne Roth, president; Carol Mogk, vice president; Donna Stere, secretary and Nancy Kropf, treasurer.
Speakers at Village Manor share visit to South Africa By Mary Nicklas On Monday, June 6th twenty-four residents enjoyed coffee cake and fruit. Twenty nine residents attended the final luncheon of the season, June 15th. Buns, meat and cheese were served along with dessert provide by third floor residents. The last pot luck before the summer break was held Monday, June 27th. Verna Bender led in Grace and 37 residents and guests enjoyed the meal. President, Verna Bender, welcomed everyone to the Friendship Club meeting at 7:00 p.m. Joyce Zehr read the minutes of the May meeting and the treasurer’s report was given by Pearl Riley. Carl and Mary Nicklas and Gordon and Erma Bauman celebrated anniversaries this month. The guests for the evening were Paul and Glenna Roth, Heather and Adrian Konstant along with their seven-month-old daughter, Hayden. They presented an illustrated picture show entitled “Off to Cape Town, South Africa”, which showed an Elephant Park where they rode elephants and also showed many African penguins at Cape Town. Londolozi Game Rescue Resort consists of 500 acres of wild animals and they were able to drive through the resort in an open Jeep. They visited an orphanage in Matatiele where Paul and Glenna’s granddaughter, Zizipho, daughter of Adam and Esther Roth spent the first year of her life. They also enjoyed spending time with Adrian’s family at Pretoria. There were many questions asked about the climate and land terrain. Adrian, who was born in South Africa, serenaded the group with an African song.

The Tavistock Agricultural Society is honoured to be hosting the RCMP Musical Ride on Monday, August 15, 2016. The event will take place just east of the village. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the show are $10 in advance or $12 at the gate. Children 6-14 years are $5.00 and children 5 and under get free admission. The show is rain or shine, with no refunds. Tickets are available at Tavistock Flooring, Yantzi Home Building Centre, or from any Agricultural Society member.
