LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I travel a lot all over the United States and now into Canada. I enjoy travelling but I also get quite homesick. So, its always good when I go through a small town that seems like home. I went into Quehl’s and ate an egg salad sandwich! Do you know how many places in America do NOT have egg salad sandwiches? Then I had a piece of coconut pie because I just couldn’t stand passing it up. As I sat at the counter I read the “Tavistock Gazette” and I noticed that it was established in 1895. When I left town I saw a building that said “Tavistock Gazette” so I stopped in and asked a gentleman to take my picture in front of his building and he graciously did so. I would guess he was William Gladding but I don’t recall for sure. I was also held up by a traffi c jam when I left caused by a group

Enjoy knowing one another and being able to walk from one end of town to the other without too much effort. Blood donor clinic set for next Wednesday As the Canada Day holiday approaches, Canadian Blood Services asks local residents to “Rally Together to Save Lives” for the holiday weekend. Rally is the blood agency’s new recruitment campaign aimed at growing the donor base to 500,000 active blood donors and to recruit 100,000 new blood donors each year across Canada by 2015. Summer is typically a challenging time for the blood system because people focus on vacation plans and warm weather activities, while blood donation falls from top of mind. There is a great need for blood for the Canada Day holiday weekend and throughout the summer. The Tavistock community can “Rally Together to Save Lives” at the upcoming blood donor clinic: Tavistock Blood Donor

Clinic on Wednesday, June 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Tavistock Memorial Hall. Did You Know That It Can Take: • 50 units of blood to help someone in a car accident • 2 units a day to help someone undergoing a bone marrow transplant for Cancer • 52% of Canadians say they or a family member needed blood or blood products last year. Less than 4% of eligible Canadians donate. People are asked to schedule their life saving appointment by calling 1 888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283) and help save lives this summer or visit www.blood.ca for more information. Thank you for being a link in the life line. Suzanne Barron, Community Development Coordinator Canadian Blood Services
