ANTA Cruz council is working on preparations for the sixth edition of Neighbours’ Day in the Ofra district which will take place on June 24th.
The programme includes ten hours of activities, between 10am and 8pm, which will take place in the spaces on the esplanade of the shopping centre Los Príncipes and also along the main avenue. The celebration coincides with the opportunities fair, Ofra Saldos, with numerous stalls along the pedestrian promenade which joins the Yumbo commercial centre with the Juan XXIII sports centre. There will be children’s entertainment, music and parades. The esplanade of the shopping centre Los Príncipes will host a flea market with handicraft products, as well as others where original or second hand products will be marketed by the residents of Ofra. Youngsters will have their own meeting point to develop diverse activities, such as workshops, a road safety circuit and inflatable attractions, among others. Music will also play a predominant role, with the celebration of a talent festival, which will culminate with a performance by the singer Pepe Benavente.

Tenerife singer-songwriter returns to Canaries

HE Tenerife singer-songwriter Pedro Guerra returns to the islands with his new concert tour “7 Puertas” with a stop at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas. In this event, he will review his best songs and present his last two recordings ‘Arde Estocolmo’ and ’14 de ciento volando de 14’. The concert will take place on Friday, June 16th at 9pm in
the Sala Jerónimo Saavedra. “7 Puertas” is an intimate tour, up close with only guitar, piano and voice. On stage with him will be the master pianist Luis Fernandez. “This is a good opportunity
for the followers of Pedro Guerra to live closely the music of one of the great authors of our islands,” say the promoters. ‘Arde Stockholm’, which received a Latin Grammy Award nomination, is the first album with compositions of the singer since 2011, although in 2013 he published ’30 years’, a
compilation that included four or five unpublished songs . The songs address social issues, love, or more personal and everyday issues. Tickets for this concert are now on sale and can be purchased through the usual channels, including on www.auditorioteatrolaspalmasgc.es and www.entradas.com
From Havana to La Laguna, Aymee takes to the stage

OCALIST Aymee Nuviola, known as “La Sonera del Mundo”, will bring her characteristic Cuban sounds to the Teatro Leal in La Laguna on June 16th at 9pm. The singer will perform her latest album, El regreso a la Habana, a work that pays tribute to Celia Cruz and the music of Havana. Tickets to attend the show, promoted by the Autonomous
Organism of Musical Activities (OAAM) of the City of La Laguna, can be purchased on the website www.entrees.es and at the theatre box office at a price of eight, ten and 12 euros.

HE Canaries have turned into “Islands of Music, Theatre and Dance” during June with 22 different shows reaching 19 municipalities.
The circuit has been arranged by the Canar y Government through its Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and continues until June 30th. The enterprises involved are RC Teatro, Folk Canarias Eventos, Multritrack, Troysteatro, Unahoramenos Producciones, Komba Producciones, Abubukaka, Doble M, Alehop Canarias, Factoría del Arte, Mar Producciones, TrovasietA, Camino Viejo Producciones, Jeito, BColina, LS Producciones, Makaron, Producciones Oye and Amilkilómetros. There are children’s shows, magic, concerts with traditional Canary instruments, music, humour, plays and
singing, with venues both indoors and out. Eight shows were scheduled for Tenerife, including the spectacular ‘Circundando’ in the Glorieta de San Francisco de Garachico at 6pm on June 18th and ‘Pieles’ in the plaza Franchy Alfaro of La Orotava at 9pm. The Plaza de San Pedro de El Sauzal will host three shows: the concert of Troveros de Asieta on the 24th at 9.30pm; the children’s ‘Planet Fantasy ’ on the 25th at 7.30pm; and the Los Salvapantallas concert on June 29th at 9pm. Finally, the municipality of San Juan de la Rambla will host the show ‘Uniendo Caminos’, from the Jeita group, on June 27th at 9pm.

Search is on for 2018 Carnival poster

HE search is on for the official poster for the 2018 Santa Cruz Carnival.
Artists are being asked to submit their designs for the massive event which will be on the theme “La Fantasía”. This was chosen by citizens in a public survey through the website of the carnival. The internet users had four other options, proposed by OAFAR, with a participation of 12,000 people, of which 3,161 opted for ‘La Fantasia’. Any individual or company interested in presenting their project can begin to prepare their sketches from this moment. The rules of the competition will be displayed both on the bulletin board of the OAFAR headquarters and on the website carnavaldetenerife.com
