2016 COMPLEX OF THE YEAR

2016 Complex of the Year

Texas Bank Sports Complex & Rio Concho Community Park San Angelo, Texas

The complex is a total of 80 acres which runs alongside the Concho River. It has 55 acres of irrigated turf which is made up of Tifway 419 Hybrid Bermuda grass. There is a total of 15 fields; 10 multipurpose fields (softball, baseball, football, soccer), 2 baseball fields, 2 little league fields and (1) tee ball field. In addition to the fields the complex also has 2 restroom/concession facilities, with a 3rd to start construction in the winter of 2016. Besides sports fields, this lighted complex also provides 4 sand volleyball courts, a community park with playground, several picnic tables, an overlook site of the Concho River, and 4 large parking lots. The complex was completed in 2009 and is maintained by the City of San Angelo Park’s Department Staff. The complex is located in the West Texas Region in San Angelo, Texas. There is 1 coordinator, 5 full time employees (3-man crew for turf maintenance and a 2-man crew for infield and facilities maintenance) and 1 seasonal worker. Fields are mowed at an 1 ¼” 2-3 times a week depending on growing conditions and non-field sites are mowed at 1 ½” once per week. String trimming occurs once a week which includes all field fence lines, edging of all sidewalks and community park area. During the growing season the complex is irrigated weekly to a mini-mum depth of 6 inches. We fertilize 4 to 6 times per year and aerate 3 to 5 times per year. The clay infields are leveled, drug, and watered daily with nail dragging on an as needed basis. Infields are top-dressed periodically throughout the playing season with diamond pro conditioner and infield clay material. Temporary fences are put up for certain tournaments and girls softball leagues. Foul lines on fields are painted once every 2 weeks. Pesticide applications are made through-out the year on an as needed basis. All facilities and parking lots are cleaned on a daily basis. During the offseason winter months, yearly up-keep Is performed to include painting of foul poles and buildings, pressure washing of sidewalks and bleachers, restriping the parking lots as needed, building maintenance and infield renovations –( tilling up and mixing clay, releveling of playing surface, replacing pitching mounds, home plates and base anchors as needed). Equipment used for daily upkeep of the complex include (1) truck, (2) utility trailers, (3) Toro rotary cut mowers for fields, (1) Toro rotary cut mower for non-field sites, (1) Exmark zero-turn mower, (1) Toro

versa vac, (2) Toro workman with rahn infields units attached, 2() John Deere gators with one infield rascal MVP unit attached, (1) Polaris ranger, (1) EZ Go golf cart, (1) 100 gallon 3-point boom spray tank, (2) 30 gallon spray tanks, (1) cone spreader, (2) push spreaders, (3) drag mats, (2) gracco field painters, (4) string trimmers, (5)blowers and other misc. equipment. Balanced fertilizers, 21-0-0 fertilizer, liquid fertilizers, pre and post herbicides, diamond pro conditioner and infield clay, pioneer field paint, diamond pro chalking dust, custodial supplies, etc. The annual operating budget for the complex is $794,000. The irrigation System is auto-mated through a central control system. All fields, walk paths, parking lots and facilities are lighted by the Musco Lighting company. The sports complex is used throughout the entire year for sports and non-related sports events. On average, there are 45 events/tournaments each year to include the TLCA Easter Fest, which brings in up to 20,000 people and is said to be the biggest Easter egg hunt in Texas with over 150,000 eggs (eggs dropped by helicopter). There are 4 sessions of adult softball leagues throughout the year with an average of 120 teams, flag football with 90 teams and little league play with 30 teams. Seasonal rentals in-clude girls and boys high school softball and baseball as well as Girls Fast Pitch with 55 teams. This year the complex was host for several large events to include the Texas Police Games for soft-ball and flag football, 3 USSSA baseball tournaments with average team total of 95, West Texas All-star Girls Fast Pitch tournament with 85 teams, and Girls Fast Pitch Midnight Madness with 80 teams.
