William D. “Bill” Benton ’78 In what city do you reside? Van Alstyne, Texas. What is your position on the Alumni Association board? President. What was your major and class year at Tech, plus any other degrees you may have earned? Education 1978. Where are you employed and what is your position? Benton-Luttrell Company partner/owner real estate and insurance. What are the names of your family members? Wife Paula, daughter Kathryn, sons Henry and James. Major activities in which you were involved as a student at Tech: President of Phi Delta Theta, IFC. What is one of your fondest memories from your Tech days? Game Day Texas Tech vs. Texas 1976: Tech 31 Texas 28. What is one thing you’ve enjoyed seeing occur recently at Texas Tech? My son James’s graduation from Tech in August. What is your favorite book? The Bible. What is your favorite movie? (Or, what is the last movie you saw?) favorite mini-series “Lonesome Dove.”

David K. Waggoner ’83, ’98 In what city do you reside? I live at the White Bluff Resort in Lake Whitney, Texas. What is your position on the Alumni Association Board? Past president, and chair of the Nominating Committee. What was your major and class year at Tech, plus any other degrees you may have earned? I was a pre-vet, animal science major as an undergraduate, and received my BS degree in 1983. Where are you employed and what is your position? I am the owner of The Waggoner Law Firm. What are the names of your family members? My father, Kelley Waggoner, is deceased. He was the Masked Rider in 1962. My mother, Bene Waggoner attended Tech. I have a twin brother, Dan, who graduated from Tech in 1983. Dan was student body president. My two younger brothers, Lance and Wade, reside in the Dallas area. Major activities in which you were involved as a student at Tech: Student Senate, Agricultural Council, Kappa Alpha Order, Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa and member of the Collegiate Livestock and Horse Judging teams. What is one of your fondest memories from your Tech days? Being a member of nationally recognized livestock and horse judging teams. What is one thing you’ve enjoyed seeing occur recently at Texas Tech? I have enjoyed seeing the enhancement of the student union building, and placing a greater emphasis on recruiting a more diverse group of undergraduate students.

What are your interests and hobbies? Team roping, camping and history.

What is your favorite book? I have several favorites. Two most recent books I enjoyed reading are “Twilight’s Last Gleaming” and “Killing Lincoln.”

What character trait do you value highly in an individual? Honesty, loyalty, humility and devotion.

What is your favorite movie? (Or, what is the last movie you saw?) “Glory.”

If you could ask five or six people to your home for an evening, who would they be? Jesus Christ, my dad, C. S. Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Goodnight and George W. Bush.

What are your interests and hobbies? I remain very involved with supporting 4-H and FFA students in my county. I enjoy serving as an official at several major Texas livestock shows. What character trait do you value highly in an individual? Honesty and integrity. Without it, nothing else matters. If you could ask five or six people to your home for an evening, who would they be? Bill O’Reilly, President Bill Clinton, George Strait, Michael Jordan and Idris R. Traylor.
