FREDERICKSBURG, TX— The Fredericksburg Music Festival and School will launch its 1st season ‘Music Connects Us’ this summer with an ambitious slate of programming, blending contemporary innovation with classical tradition in one of Texas’s most picturesque cultural destinations.
Running from June 8 to June 21 the 2025 festival presented by TexasCellos will feature more than thirteen concerts performed by twenty-five musicians from around the world, most making their Fredericksburg debuts The season will showcase the beloved Six Suites of Bach, with each suite performed by a different member of the star studded faculty, eight cello recitals with themes ranging from ‘Jewishness in Music’ to ‘Miniatures’, and ‘Hinges’ exploring the spaces in between, a GRAMMY winning jazz violinist with his band, to an live improvised deconstruction and reconstruction of a Bach Sarabande for solo cello in concert The festival will conclude with ‘Ode to Joy’ a mass side by side cello choir closing concert celebration featuring the faculty and students of the festival.
Concerts will take place at five historic venues in the heart of Fredericksburg: St Joseph’s Halle (1900), Becker Vineyards, the Marienkirche from 1850, the Auditorium at the Pioneer Museum, and the Admiral Nimitz Historic Ballroom (1855).
Among this year’s headline events is the launch of TexasCelloSchool FREDERICKSBURG, with extraordinary gifted cello students from around the world in a meeting that encourages sharing between great musicians & young aspiring artists from around the world!
The Festival’s repertoire spans seven centuries, with performances of Renaissance-inspired music, Baroque masterworks like Bach’s Six Cello Suites, and contemporary works by composers including Fazil Say, Caroline Shaw, Giovanni Sollima, Mieczysław Weinberg, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. Folk music is a prominent theme throughout the concerts, highlighting the motto ‘Music Connects Us’.
For visitors and music lovers alike, the Fredericksburg Music Festival and School will blend high artistic achievement with the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a signature summer destination for classical music.
Music, and making music together, can and should act as an example to so many areas of society, above all for the way it models how we can cooperate with humility, curiosity, and mutual respect as each player accepts their role in the musical story After all, making music together is quite a challenge! It is a mammoth task of communication! What musicians – who often come from highly diverse countries and cultures – do provides a unique example of value-oriented, disciplined, sensitive and constructive collective action There is no alternative when makingmusic! Musicians demonstrate how fulfilling it is, and what an impact it has, when we act as team players with all our hearts –and thus play a role in a shared, beautiful whole This is the culture that Fredericksburg Music Festival and School/ TexasCellos represents
In this life beauty is passing. The flower in spring, the moment in a musical phrase, the person who truly sees you. They are beautiful because they will soon be gone yet awake a memory of what we truly desired all along. The fragile nature of these beautiful moments I must say, is connected to us knowing consciously or subconsciously that they are fleeting, allowing us to briefly connect and quench the unknown longings within us, if only for a moment.
These beautiful moments come often at times of change, times of a new direction, of ends and beginnings: in short, turning points Throughout my life I have always felt drawn toward finding and understanding these junctures, whether they be in history, a musical tradition, or my own life By realizing and comprehending where the hinge of a matter is we come to a much more complete understanding of what lies ahead Looking back awakens a nostalgia for what was, and yet we have the hopeful expectation of what may come
In programing this festival and my own recital I went with the idea of the hinge, because these last four years have been quite a transition in my life and artistic work. With the launch of Fredericksburg Music Festival and School we are at yet another juncture. Will you join us as together we build something truly beautiful?

TexasCelloSchool FREDERICKSBURG is a charitable organisation dedicated to making music at the highest level. We foster and preserve a tradition of music making which focuses on freedom of expression and the ability to truly speak to audiences from the heart.
Our mission is to sustain this approach to music, nurturing the new generation of musicians to ensure that the highest levels of professional skill are allied with the ability to perform with integrity
The unique value of TexasCelloSchool lies in the spirit of musicmaking which is created during the institute. In an era where much learning now focuses on outcomes, and success, our founder Joseph Kuipers, recognized the absolute necessity for musicians to learn to develop their own unique skills and voices in an environment of immersion, learning to communicate, create and grow by doing.
Each student is an individual with their own talent, passions as well as technical and musical strengths and weaknesses. TexasCellosSchool aspires to understand, and respect, the individual profile of each of our students by serving as a conscience encouraging their strengths, while leading them to recognize the truth and beauty of the music they play It is that goal that should inform their technique, and not the other way round. Our students are from Texas, across the U.S., as well as Europe, and Asia. The emphasis is on shared experiences, with mutual respect, encouragement, and support expected of each member of the institute. Our work is intense, but there is always time for friendly, relaxed social interaction. We come to know and feel at ease with each other as in a close family, building on positive motivation and stimulation from shared musical values and goals, and eschewing narrow-minded competition

Thank you all for coming tonight. I’m thankful that you were here. You’ve listened not only with your ears but I hope with your hearts You’re here because you love music, you value beauty, and because you love the concept of artists sharing their gifts
4
This evening was not just a concert It was the fulfillment of a dream that I’ve carried for years Young musicians from across Texas and beyond coming together to learn, to perform, to receive instruction and guidance from world-class artists Artists who sit beside them not just on stage but in rehearsal rooms, in masterclasses, and sometimes even at dinner tables. They guide them. They inspire them. And literally they change lives through what happens here.
Then there’s you. People from all walks of life. Gathered here not just for entertainment but for transformation. Tonight was that moment, and it happened here in Fredericksburg.
I want to say honestly: this is not the end. It’s just the beginning. Because what we’re doing here is more than one concert or one week We’re building a festival A cultural center A destination
You may have come in tonight and thought of this evening as a beautiful period at the end of a sentence I hope it’s an exclamation point a moment where music, education, and artistry all converge
Our vision is to create an ecosystem Students mentored by the finest teachers from around the world. Audiences experiencing everything from Bach to Jazz, from accordions to violins, from classics to original compositions, and Fredericksburg as the place where it all happens not just for one weekend, but for a generation.
We believe that world-renowned musicians will come here. That students from across the country and beyond can find their voice here. That audiences like you will be lifted again and again by music that speaks to the soul.
And so tonight, I’m going to ask you simply and sincerely to partner with me. We need your help We are a nonprofit That doesn’t just mean we don’t make a lot of money (although, we don’t) It means this doesn’t belong to me or any one person It belongs to us To the stakeholders who care To the people who make it happen I’m asking you tonight to help us get started This is the ground floor If you’d like to make a gift tonight, you can do so using the pledge card you received Just indicate what you’d like to give and drop it in the basket before you go Or you can use your credit card or phone with the QR code to complete your gift tonight If you’d like to talk with me personally, I would be honored to speak with you in the coming days I’d love to share more about what’s happening and how you can be part of it.
Because what happened here tonight what we all heard and felt together is only the overture.
The rest is still to be written. Let’s write it together. Would you please give generously tonight?
Thank you,
Joseph Kuipers, Creative Director
