Sheila Bayley (b. 1986) is a self-taught Kenyan artist based in Nairobi.
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the United States International University—Africa, she explores themes of identity, the balance between nature and nurture, and how these determine human behavior.
Inspired by her imagination and personal experience, Bayley uses mostly acrylic and paper collages on canvas or paper, combining abstract and figurative styles to create unique worlds with women as the focus. Some of her earlier works include urban Swahili architecture and designs drawn from her past life and experience in Lamu and Dar es Salaam.
In the search for an evolved sense of self and identity, Sheila has a deep connection and passion for the development of Art in East Africa, and dreams of creating a system of education that is centered around Art, as a life skill and career.
