Forward The residence’s immediate neighborhood is home to several highly acclaimed restaurants, bistros and world class museum collections. Venturing a few more steps further away, all the many wonderful destinations within the UNESCO World Heritage Site await your curiosity. With a slightly longer walk or a RTC Route 21 bus ride, many more world class museum collections are beckoning. Les Quebecquois are noted for thoroughly enjoying their public spaces; maybe it’s a European social tradition that has gained a foothold in the Americas, maybe it’s because the average Quebec home is smaller than what is now customary in the States ...maybe it’s just an outward “joie de vie” that permeates the Quebec lifestyle. In any event, there’s a lot to see and do in every season.

Being so close to the Arctic Circle, the Summer Season’s daylight hours are languorously long ...while the Winter Season’s daytime is notoriously short. So, with the European tradition of dining late entrenched, Summer Season dining destinations are typically in full-swing till late in the night. During the Winter Season, daylight fails around the 4:30-mark; forcing chandeliers and flickering candles to augment the crackling fireplaces.

The Quebec seasonal swings are vastly different in every sense, but each is completely enjoyable and enchanting in their own right. If it’s the Summer Season, join les Quebecquios at a sidewalk cafe and soak-in the gentle breezes and outstanding and wide variety dining venues. If it’s the Winter Season, simply bundle up and crunch your way to a neighborhood bistro for a cup of hot chocolate (or Cognac) beside the warmth of a fireplace. If it’s one of the “Shoulder Seasons”, slip-on a sweater or jacket and enjoy la Belle Ville de Quebec with the locals. FYI, in the European tradition, most local dining establishments are not eager to “turn over” their tables; your lingering enjoyment is most welcome. So enjoy the dining experiences in a leisurely fashion. Often, you will have to ask for the check (le addition s’il vous plait) ...check please.

Hollywood In The Old City A Famous Neighborhood The 1947 black and white film “13 Rue Madeleine” staring James Cagney was filmed mostly in Quebec City and right in the residence’s Old Town neighborhood ... also in the Cagney film, the Royal 22nd Regiment Drill Hall, the Ste Louis Gate and the Ursulines Convent’s main entrance (just across the street from la Maison Ursulines) are all used as backdrops to the storyline and action. The Ursulines Convent’s front gates are featured as Cagney exits and motors away up rue Donaconna and rue du Parloir ...much as it is today (approximately 20 minuets into the film). In the 2002 film “Catch me If You Can” staring Leonardo D’Caprio, when being apprehended; spoiler alert, was shot just down the hill in “Place Royal”.
