Kurgo through the years, a brief company history

Kurgo is founded by two brothers working out of a broom closet at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Kurgo displays initial Tire Tote® at SEMA show and applies for patents.

Kurgo Harness Crash Testing: Although there are no government regulations regarding dog car harnesses, we have been proactively crash testing our products for over 6 years to make the safest products possible. We use standards set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 213 for child car seats to test our dog harnesses and seatbelts.

Our harnesses are tested using two methods: Static - Tensile strength testing, which is where the harness is pulled at varying degrees of force. You can find the results report on our website at kurgostore.com/crash-testing-methodology. Dynamic - Crash testing using a sled test at an accredited National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) lab using Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 for child restraint systems. Because we know that not all solutions work for all dogs, we offer a variety of harnesses, seatbelts and buckles. The Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Harness has extra strong steel nesting buckles based on the technology used for rock climbing harnesses. This harness has been crash tested. To take your dog’s chest measurement, wrap a tape measure around the thickest part of the dog’s ribcage. An easy way to get your dog’s weight is to step on a scale yourself. Then step on again holding your dog. The difference will be the weight of your dog.
