Hawaii has 137 islands stretched over 1500 miles, of which there are eight major islands, namely, Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, and Hawaii. It’s the only state that grows coffee in the US. Hawaii consists of a mix of Asian, American, and ethnic Hawaiian population. It is home to Mount Kea, the tallest mountain in the world when measured from the seabed. Hawaii offers sunny climate, sandy beaches, a peaceful oceanic atmosphere attracting tourists, visitors, and oceanographers from around the world and the States.
1) Haleakala National Park: One of the most beautiful sights in the world is watching sunset or sunrise above 10,000 ft above sea level atop Haleakala, more often above the clouds. Hike the Sliding sands Trail to Pete’s Paint Point for a long day trek. The main attractions of the National Park are a hike to the crater, camping, paragliding, watching the sunrise, sunset, and stargazing.
2) Kaanapali Beach: Named as America’s best beach, spanning over 3 miles of clear blue water and warm sands, was a popular vacation spot for Maui royalty. You can indu lge in activities such as snorkeling, sport fishing, paragliding, go on submarine rides or take a sunbath on the beach with a good book.
3) Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: Home to the worlds’ active volcanos, Kilauea and Mauna Loa, this National Park, offers varied geothermal features to enjoy. Post the 2018 eruption, certain parts of the roads, hike trails, and the national park has been closed off to the general public. Hike the Kilauea Iki Trail, check out the Thurstan Lava Tube, the chain of craters road, have a pleasant dinner at ‘The Rim,’ overlooking the lava bed and serving Hawaiian cuisine.
4) Iolani Palace: The Palace of Hawaii’s last reigning monarch, Iolani Palace, was constructed in the year 1882 by King Kalakaua. The now restored palace has all the original art and furniture, recovered, repaired or replicated for authenticity. Check out the palace to get a glimpse of the Hawaiian culture and monarchy. Original Throne Room, Grand Hall, State Dining Room, the King, and Queen suites and the Imprisonment room are all open for visitors.
5) Wailua Falls, Kauai: Unlike the other waterfalls in the Kauai area, Wailua Falls is easily reachable via a short drive. When sunlight is angled in a certain way on the falls, it gives out a beautiful rainbow formation. Diving is advised against and illegal, as the pool underneath is 30 ft deep and dangerous.
6) Waimea Canyon: Described as the ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific,’ Waimea Canyon is 10 miles long and 3500 ft deep. The canyon is in the Kokee State Park and is carved by the Waimea river over the rocks over a million years. There are many hiking trails, to the Waimea Canyon and Na’pali coast.
7) USS Arizona Memorial, Honolulu: The memorial marks the resting place of 1,102 sailors and marines killed during the Pearl Harbor Attack on the USS Arizona in 1941. Reachable by boat, it straddles the hull of the ship without touching it. The memorial h as historical information regarding the attack and aftermath.
8) Road To Hana, Maui: Enriched with beautiful scenic views, waterfalls, and roadside stands of delicious Hawaiian bread, this 52-mile road is one magnificent scenery in itself. Enjoy the pleasant three-hour drive, as you take in the coastal views, bamboo forests while stopping to click beautiful photos and immortalize your Hawaii trip.
9) Molokini Crater: The crescent-shaped crater is a famous snorkeling and scuba diving destination, with crystal clear waters and biodiversity. Due to the placement of the crater, the water is calm and clear, resulting in very high visibility of the aquatic wildlife as they go about their day.
10) Waipio Valley: Known as the ‘Valley of Kings,’ the island has been home to early Hawaiian rulers for many generations. The place is full of natural beauty and is of historical significance. One can explore the valley with guided tours, horseback, or mule ride tours. Also, there are many hiking trails open for visitors; check with the authorities for the routes and regulations.
