“AS THE COMMUNICATION TEAM FOR STUDIO 204, FOCUSING ON THE CREATION OF TWO VIDEOS TO MARKET THE COURSE TO NEW CREATIVES. IT IS OUR JOB TO RESEARCH AND LOOK INTO THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO CAPTURE ALL ASPECTS OF THE FASHION COMMUNICATION MARKETING (SOCIAL MEDIA) COURSE IN A WAY THAT IS ENGAGING AND INFORMATIVE TO DISPLAY HOW INDUSTRY FOCUSED AND PROGRESSIVE THE COURSE IS. WE WANT TO CREATE TWO VIDEOS THAT CAN BE VIEWED TO GUESTS ON LAUNCH NIGHT AND ADDITIONALLY UPLOADED ON TO STUDIO 204’S VARIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS. OUR AIM IS FOR OUR VIDEOS TO BE NEW, DIFFERENT AND EXCITING WITH A CONCEPTUAL TWIST TO LEAVE EVERYBODY WANTING TO JOIN THE COURSE! “WITHIN THE COMMUNICATION TEAM, I DECIDED TO TAKE ON THE ROLE OF STYLIST AND SOURCER OF INSPIRATION (MOOD BOARDS AND MUSES) FOR THE CONCEPTUAL VIDEO. AS A TEAM, WE DECIDED TO SET OUT DIFFERENT ROLES FOR EACH VIDEO. THEREFORE, FOR THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO, MY ROLE WILL BE CREATOR, EDITOR AND SOURCING THE MATERIALS FOR THE VIDEO SUCH AS IMAGES OF STUDENTS PAST WORK, QUOTES FROM STUDENTS, STATS AND INFORMATION ETC. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR ME FOR MY ROLES TO BE AS CREATIVE AS POSSIBLE AS I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS WHERE MY STRENGTHS ARE AND WHERE MOST OF MY EXPERIENCE LIES. AS A STUDIO INTERN LAST YEAR, I CREATED LOTS OF CREATIVE CONTENT AND SPENT LOTS OF TIME ON SETS FOR PHOTOSHOOTS, SO I FEEL AS THOUGH I HAD A FAIR UNDERSTANDING OF CREATING CONTENT AND KNOWING HOW TO GAUGE AND MAINTAIN THE ATTENTION OF AN AUDIENCE!”

I STEPPED INTO THIS CREATIVE DIRECTION ROLE COMFORTABLY AS IT IS AN ASPIRATION OF MINE AFTER THE COURSE, AND I SIT IN A CREATIVE VISUAL SPACE. AS A TEAM WE DECIDED TO SET ROLES PER VIDEO, AND MY ROLES FOR THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO ARE SOURCING INSPIRATION, CO-EDITOR AND VERIFIER. TAKING THE ROLE AS EDITOR FELT LIKE A GOOD WAY TO HELP ME EXPAND ON MY SKILLS. WE ARE THE COMMUNICATIONS TEAM, AND WE HAVE BEEN TASKE CREATING THE MARKETING VIDEOS FOR THIS NEW COURSE (FASHION COMMUNICATION MARKETING SOCIAL MEDIA). WE AIMED FOR ONE COMMERCIAL VIDEO AND ONE CONCEPT VIDEO, THIS WAS SO WE COULD ATTRACT MORE CONCEPTUAL THINKERS AND SHOW THE CREATIVE FREEDOM OF THE COURSE. WITH THESE TO VIDEOS IN MIND, WE COULD ATTRACT CONCEPTUAL THINKERS, AND ALSO HAVE AN INFORMATIVE VIDEO TO ALLOW ALL ASPECTS OF THE COURSE TO BE DISPLAYED. SO INITIALLY WE ASSIGNED OUR ROLES IN THE TEAM, ANNA TOOK LEAD ON STYLING AND SOURCING INSPIRATION FOR THE CONCEPT VIDEO, AND I TOOK LEAD ON THE CREATIVE DIRECTION OF THE VIDEO, AND THE SCENERY THAT WOULD BE DEPICTED. THESE WERE OUR INITIAL ROLES, AND I GOT TO WORK RESEARCHING FOR FASHION FILMS AND CREATIVE MEDIA THAT INSPIRED ME, AND THAT WAS MATTY BOVAN FOR HIS AUTUMN 2024 COLLECTION. THE ALMOST DYSTOPIAN STYLE FELT REALLY FITTING TO THE STYLE I WANTED TO FILM IN, AS I WANTED A REALLY CONCEPTUAL STYLE FILM, I TOOK GREAT INSPIRATION FROM THIS. HIS FUN PLAY ON PROPORTIONS AND FAST-PACED MOTIONS WAS EERILY AND INTRIGUING. AFTER THAT I BEGAN RESEARCHING CONCEPT INSPIRATION FOR SEARCH SECTION OF THE VIDEO, WHICH I WANTED TO REPRESENT THE DIFFERENT TRIMESTERS THAT ARE OFFERED ON THIS NEW COURSE. THE FIRST MODULE ‘PAPER DOLLS’ IS THE OPENING TRIMESTER THAT WE WERE INTRODUCED TO SO WE REALLY WANTED TO FOCUS ON THIS AS I FELT ITS AN IMPORTANT MODULE. THIS MODULE SETS YOU UP FOR THE COURSE AND ALLOWS YOU TO EXPAND YOUR SKILLS AND LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FASHION INDUSTRY, SO THIS WAS DEFINITELY A STRONG THEME THROUGHOUT THE FASHION FILM.
WHILE ANNA WAS GETTING STYLING FOR THE CONCEPTS, I WAS DIVING FURTHER INTO MATTY BOVANS STYLE AND TAKING INSPIRATION FROM HIS FUN, CREATIVE EXPRESSION! FOR THE ENDING SCENE IN THE FILM, I WANTED THE ‘CHARACTER’ THAT WE WERE USING TO BE IN A FULL EXPRESSIVE FREE SPACE, WHICH IS HOW I VIEW MATTY BOVANS STYLE. I WANTED THIS TO BE FUN AND EYE-CATCHING, SO THAT THE VIEWER CAN SEE HOW THIS COURSE ALLOWS YOU TO SIT IN TO YOUR FULL CREATIVE SELF. SO FOR THE OPENING SCENE I WANTED THE ’CHARACTER’ TO FEEL LOST, WITH A SENSE OF YEARNING FOR SOMETHING MORE. TAKING INSPIRATION FROM COMME DE GARÇON, THIS LONE CROW IDEA FELT FITTING. ALMOST A DARK AND GLOOMY FEELING HANGING OVER THE ‘CHARACTER’ UNTIL SHE FINDS HERSELF ON THE COURSE. USING THE ASPECT OF THE CROW AND ‘TRIBE’ THAT RAI KAWAKUBO REFERENCES IN HER SUPPORTERS, WE WANTED THE ‘CHARACTER’ TO FIND HER TRIBE AMONGST 204.

AS WE GOT THE BONE STRUCTURE OF THE CONCEPTUAL VIDEO DOWN, WE BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO AND HOW WE WANTED THAT TO GO. AFTER LOOKING AT PERVIOUS YEARS DIFFERENT WAYS AT MARKETING THE COURSE, WE KNEW THAT WE WANTED A MORE UPDATED, ELEVATED VERSION. TAKING A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM THINGS WE HAD LEARNED ALONG OUR TIME ON THE COURSE, WE LANDED ON THIS SNAPPY, STOP MOTION EFFECT AND BEGAN TO PLAN THAT. ANNA RESEARCHED ABOUT JOHN GALLIANO AND TOOK INSPIRATION FROM HIM, AND AS I WAS INITIALLY CREATING THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO, I USED THIS RESEARCH AND CREATED A FIRST DRAFT OF THE VIDEO. TO KEEP IN THEME WITH THE OTHER TEAMS AMONGST OUR PEERS, WE TRIED TO USE THE SAME COLOUR PALETTE AND FONT, SO IT ALL FELT COHESIVE IF THEY WERE SHARED ON THE SAME PLATFORM, HOWEVER WHEN BOTH ANNA AND I WATCHED THE VIDEO BACK WE REALISED HOW WEAK IT WAS COMPARED TO OUR CONCEPTUAL IDEA. AFTER OUR FEEDBACK FROM GARRY AND MAUREEN IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO WAS LACKING COMPARED TO OUR CONCEPTUAL IDEA.
SO BOTH ANNA AND I WENT BACK TO THE RESEARCH PHASE AND GOT A DEFINITIVE PLAN OUT. WE WANTED TO INCLUDE QUOTES FROM CURRENT STUDENTS, WHICH ANNA SOURCED. I THEN GATHERED ALL OF THE FACTS AND STATISTICS OF THE COURSE AND WHAT IT OFFERS. THIS FILM WAS AIMED MORE TOWARDS PARENTS, GUARDIANS, AND CAREGIVERS WHO WANTED DETAILS OF WHAT THE COURSE OFFERS. I ALSO WANTED TO INCLUDE OUR CURRENT STUDENTS WORK TO DISPLAY WHAT EACH TRIMESTER ENTAILS, AND WHAT IS POSSIBLE. ANNA AND I SOURCES CURRENT STUDENTS WORK, AND ANY INFORMATION THAT WOULD NEED TO GO INTO THE COMMERCIAL VIDEO. SHOOT DAY PREPARATION
IN THE LEAD UP TO THE SHOOT OF THE VIDEO, I ARRANGED THE MODEL. WHO WAS A STUDENT ON THE COURSE CURRENTLY, IT FELT FITTING TO HAVE ONE OF OUR PEERS TO REPRESENT THE JOURNEY WE WANTED TO SHARE. AS SHE IS A PART TIME MODEL, I KNEW THAT SHE WOULD BE CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE INFRONT OF THE CAMERA AND UNDERSTAND THE IDEA BEHIND MY CONCEPT. ANNA BOOKED THE STUDIO FOR US TO USE, WHILE SHE WAS SOURCING THE OUTFITS FROM MY DEVELOPED CONCEPTS. ONCE BOTH MODEL AND LOCATION WERE ORGANISED, I BEGAN ON MOOD BOARDING THE HAIR AND MAKEUP STYLE FOR THE DAY. AFTER CONVERSING WITH ANNA TO SEE WHAT WOULD WORK BEST WITH THE OUTFITS, I LANDED ON ONE HAIRSTYLE, AND THREE MAKEUP LOOKS. A SLICK BACK BUN WITH SPIKES, TO REPRESENT THIS SHIELED EMOTION WITH AND EDGE OF CREATIVITY. THE FIRST OPENING SCENE WOULD BE A DARK GLOOMY LOOK, THE SECOND A WHITE PAPER INSPIRED LOOK AND THE THIRD AND FINAL LOOK WOULD BE A BOLD AND PLAYFUL LOOK. I KEPT THIS SIMPLE AS I WANTED THE FOCUS TO BE ON THE ‘CHARACTERS’ EMOTION AND MOVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE FILM, AND NOT ON THE MAKEUP LLECTIVELY ANNA AND I THEN STORY BOARDED HOW WE ACH SCENE TO GO, SO LEADING INTO THE SHOOT WE FELT AND COULD GET THE CONTENT WE NEEDED.

PHOTOSHOOT DAY
SO IT CAME AROUND TO SHOOT DAY, AND UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD TO HOLD OFF ON CONTINUING AS THE PARCEL WITH THE GARMENTS THAT ANNA HAD SOURCED WAS STOLEN AND WE HAD TO RESCHEDULE UNTIL WE COULD TRACK IT DOWN. FORTUNATELY A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER ANNA RECEIVED HER PARCEL, SO WE REBOOKED THE STUDIO AND THE MODEL FOR THE NEXT WEEK. THIS DID MEAN THAT THE VIDEOGRAPHER THAT WE PREVIOUSLY BOOKED PULLED OUT AS THEY WERE NOT AVAILABLE ON THE DAY WE REARRANGED TO, SO I TOOK ON THAT ROLE. I WAS IN CHARGE OF SOURCING PROPS AND ANYTHING WE WOULD WANT TO USE THROUGHOUT THE SHOOT. ACTUAL SHOOT DAY CAME AROUND AND WE CAME IN PREPARED, WE HAD OUR STORYBOARDS AND MOOD BOARDS TO HAND AND WORKING WITH A MODEL WHO IS ON THE COURSE, IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER TO EXPLAIN OUR VISION TO HER. WE DIDN’T SHOOT IN ORDER OF THE FILM AS IT CLASHED WITH THE STYLE OF MAKEUP AND EMOTIONS, WE WANTED THE MODEL TO PORTRAY, SO WE FILMED IN STAGES.
AS WE ARE AT A CRUCIAL POINT IN THE LEAD UP TO OUR HAND IN, THE MODEL, ANNA AND I HAD MEETINGS WITH OUR MENTORS AMONGST THIS SHOOT DAY. WHICH DID PUT DELAYS AND STRAINS ON THE DAY, HOWEVER ME AND ANNA FELT PREPARED AS WE KNEW WHAT WE WANTED TO GET OUT OF THE DAY. OVERALL THE SHOOT FELT POSITIVE AND WHEN LEAVING ANNA AND I WERE CONFIDENT WE GOT ENOUGH CONTENT FOR THE CONCEPT VIDEO. ON THE DAY WHILE I WAS FILMING THE CLIPS FOR THE CONCEPT VIDEO, ANNA WAS GAINING BEHIND THE SCENES, TO SHOW OUR DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THIS WAS BENEFICIAL FOR US TO WATCH BACK AND VIEW HOW WE PROCESS THINGS AS A TEAM. IN TOTAL THE SHOOT DAY WAS AROUND 8 HOURS, WHICH WE FELT WAS ENOUGH TIME TO GET THE CONTENT WE NEEDED. THROUGHOUT THE SHOOT DAY I AND ANNA WERE COLLABORATIVELY WORKING THROUGH POSES, EXPRESSIONS AND WAYS OF SHOOTING THIS FILM. WHICH FELT STRONGER TO US AS WE WORK SIMILARLY AND COMBINING OUR CREATIVENESS TO BUILD SOMETHING STRONG TO MARKET THE COURSE.

POST PRODUCTION
POSTPRODUCTION WAS A CRUCIAL POINT FOR THIS FILM, AS WE WERE RUNNING ON SUCH A TIGHT SCHEDULE, WE NEEDED TO KNOW WE GOT WHAT WE NEEDED CONTENT WISE, AND IT WOULD ALL WORK TOGETHER WELL. THANKFULLY, THE FOOTAGE WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE AIMING FOR, SO I GOT TO WORK WITH EDITING. I CONSTANTLY SHARED MY PROGRESS WITH ANNA AND SOPHIE, OUR MENTOR, TO MAKE SURE I WAS GETTING THE BEST RESULT FOR THE TEAM AND THE COURSE. WHEN I FINALISED THE EDIT, I SENT IT OVER TO ANNA TO ADD MUSIC TO, AND WE DECIDED TO ADD DIFFERENT MUSIC TO EACH SCENE OF THE FILM. TO REALLY MAXIMISE THE EFFECT WE WERE GOING FOR. HAVING THESE CHECK INS WITH EACH OTHER TO MAKE SURE WE ARE WORKING ON THE SAME LEVEL HAS BEEN REALLY BENEFICIAL AND IT HAS MADE US A STRONGER TEAM.
THROUGHOUT OUR TIME IN THE COMMUNICATIONS TEAM WE HAVE HAD WEEKLY MEETINGS TO MAKE SURE WE ARE AT THE SAME POINT, WHICH IS WHY I THINK WE HAVE BEEN SUCH A STRONG TEAM. BOTH VIDEOS ARE NOW COMPLETE AND READY FOR LAUNCH NIGHT, AND WE FEEL CONFIDENT IN OUR OUTCOMES, THESE WILL BE POSTED ON THE YOUTUBE, INSTAGRAM AND TIKTOK. WE FEEL THESE ARE THE BEST PLATFORMS TO USE AS TWO ARE QUICK STREAM MEDIA AND WE HAVE CUT THE CONCEPT VIDEO INTO SMALLER VIDEOS TO GAIN MORE ATTENTION, AND THE FULL VIDEOS WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE TY YOUTUBE. AFTER CONVERSATIONS WITH SOPHIE ABOUT GREEN SCREENING THE BACKGROUND, I WANTED TO TEST THAT OUT AND SEE IF I LIKED IT. AFTER MY MEETINGS WITH ANNA, I WENT AND FURTHER EDITED THIS FILM, I WAS REALLY PLAYING AROUND WITH SPEED AND LENGTHS OF THE CLIPS. ONCE I FELT SETTLED ON A LENGTH, I BEGAN TO ADD TEXT TO GIVE THE FILM A CLEAR DIRECTION. THIS WAS SO IT WASN’T SO INTIMIDATING. ALSO ADDED THE UNIVERSITY OF CHESTER LOGO.

THIS FELT BEST TO ME AS I WANTED TO MAKE THE VIDEO MORE ACCESSIBLE, THIS IS ALSO SHORTER AND SNAPPIER AND WILL GRASP MORE ATTENTION! THESE ARE TO BE POSTED WITH THE SAMD CAPTIONS SO THEY ALL FLOW COHESIVELY. SPLITTING THE VIDEO UP TO REACH MORE VIEWERS SEEMED LIKE A GOOD OPTION AND WHEN POSTED IN ORDER, THE VIDEOS WILL MAKE SENSE.

THE DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING OF IT FEELS BALANCED TO THE CONCEPT VIDEO NOW, WHICH WAS OUR MAIN FEEDBACK POINT. WHEN REVIEWING THE PAST VIDEO, ANNA’S VIDEO SEEMS MUCH STRONGER AND MORE INFORMATIVE. OVERALL I BELIEVE THIS VIDEO WAS EXECUTED EXTREMELY WELL AND BOTH VIDEOS FLOW TOGETHER WELL.
CONCLUSION
TO CONCLUDE, I THINK MY PART IN THE COMMUNICATIONS TEAM HAS BEEN EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL TO ME, AND THE OUTCOME WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO THE COURSE. NAVIGATING HOW TO MEET KPI’S AND SET OUR OWN GOALS AND MEETINGS HAS BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. WHICH HAS DEFINITELY HELPED ME TO STRENGTHEN MY TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS. I DO BELIEVE THESE FILMS ARE THE OUTCOME OF WHAT WE SAT DOWN TO DO, AND I AM PROUD OF HOW THEY TURNED OUT. WE WENT INTO THE CONCEPT VIDEO WITH CONCEPTUAL THINKERS IN MIND AND I BELIEVE WE HAVE MARKETED CREATIVE FREEDOM TO THEM. DOING WEEKLY CHECK INS TO MAKE SURE I AM FOLLOWING ALONG AND MEETING MY PERSONAL KPI’S AND ALSO ANNA AND I KEEPING EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE IN OUR ROLES. WE ALSO SUPPORTED EACH OTHER AS WE ARE A SMALLER GROUP ONLY BEING TWO OF US, WHICH IS WHY I THINK WE WORKED SO CLOSELY.
SOMETHING THAT I WOULD HAVE PLANNED DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SHOOT DAY, WITH US HAVING PROBLEMS AND ISSUES THAT WERE OUT OF OUR HANDS, WE WERE PUSHED BACK A WEEK. AND UPON REFLECTION I WOULD SET MYSELF A BIGGER SAFETY NET, SO I DIDN’T PANIC IF ANYTHING WENT/GOES WRONG. THIS LINKS WITH TIME MANAGEMENT WHICH I THINK ME AND ANNA BOTH SET AND STUCK TO; HOWEVER WE COULD HAVE FACTORED IN ERRORS OR ISSUES WE COULD OF POSSIBLE FACED MORE CLEARLY. IN CONCLUSION, I BELIEVE I MET MY KPI’S AND PERFORMED MY TASK PAST THE EXPECTED LEVEL, ANNA AND I BOTH WANTED TO CREATE A VIDEO THAT WOULD INTRIGUE AND ENGAGE NEW STUDENTS LOOKING TO COME ON THIS COURSE AND I BELIEVE WE DID THAT. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH BOTH OUTCOMES WE PRODUCED AND PROUD TO PRESENT THEM ON LAUNCH NIGHT.
