CURRICULUM VITAE
ABOUT ME
As enthusiastic student, I search for design challenges on a daily basis, on large and smaller scale. Good at keeping oversight, working in stressful situations and strong in communication and adaptability as a result of seven years of hospitality industry experience. Currently looking for a job within my field of study, of temporary nature to gain work experience. My preference is to work for a company that values new ideas and listening to people.

RAINWATER STORAGE NETWORK | TYPOLOGIES
Due to climate change will heavy rainfall and high rivers lead to a rising water threat in our cities. Rotterdam needs a buffer to be able to deal with the increasing rainfall. This project gives a cultural and functional reaction to these challenges by inserting an expanding rainwater storage and distribution
network within the city of Rotterdam, disconnected from the wastewater sewage. ARK Rotterdam is the heart of this water storage network, situated at Hofplein. This storage is a sunken public space consisting of floating buildings and fixed ramps.

ELEVATIONS | PLAN
As result of changing water levels in the storage will the buildings differ in visibility from ground level. When the storage is completely empty the buildings will be completely sunken and not visible. In case of heavy rainfall will the buildngs be completely visible. The network of bridges and rams around
the buildings ensure acces to the buildings for different water levels. This means that the amount of rainwater in the storage will effect interactions between water and public space, in terms of route, function and views for the public realm.

The buildings of ARK have rammed earth walls, made from the excavated earth of the water storage. Other elemenets, like the bollards and the materials of the bridges can be recycled from the Rotterdam harbour. To avoid using concrete, the storage sides are made from quay walls.
The interiour of the buildings are inspired on the complexity of the exteriour space, having several overlapping floors in one open space. The storage is connected to the metrostation nearby, with an entrance only accesable when the water level allows it.

rooflines, which also creates an atrium. The characteristic line in the plan of the Nieuwe Maaskant determines the plan of the new building. Sport and education funtions are seperated by the shared atrium. The design empathises human scale and focusses on clarity and overview for users of the building.

SETUP
Located in the Maashaven of Rotterdem is the sit of this project. The challenge lies in designing a sportfaculty for students and also adding a public function to the building. In addidtion, there needs to be created a new funtion for the exising building and monument on the site called the Nieuwe Maaskant. The design of the building intergrates the Nieuwe Maaskant by extending SITUATION 1:500 | ORIGINAL SCALE

ATRIUM | ELEVATIONS
The extended heavy rooflines ground the building on the site and bring connection between the two functions inside. The atrium plays an important role by adding sightlines through and within the building. In summer the atrium can be opened as result of pivoting doors on ground level, this creates a vague boundary between outside and inside. A floorhigh truss enables the
possibility of having two sport halls above eachother. This truss is hidden by the public strairs athe the east side of the building facing the nearby outside sportfields. Besides functioning as public stand, grants the public stairs acces to the roofterrace where visitors can sport or recreate. The building is also accesable rom this roofterrace.

CONCEPT
This project focusses on a renovation in the Mariahoeve neighbourhood. The existing buildings are topped with one to three floors extra and a new block is added on the street side, creating an enclosed shared garden for the residents. The appartments in the blocks are two floors and vary in focus points. The new builing empathises connection as result of a workspace on the streetside of the residence. The other appartment building is directed
towards the shared garden and empathises intimacy. The residence’s balconys vary in being on the ground or first floor of the appartments, which results in a playfull elevation. Encounters between residens are stimulated by a central rise point and the connected collective space on groundlevel. In addition, the blocks of the neighbourhood are connected though the water branching from the brooklet nearby.
