የጤና ሚኒስቴር የ2019 የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ (COVID-19)

በዲሰምበር 31፡ 2019 ዉሃን በምትባለው፡ የቻይና ከተማ፡ ያልተመረመረ የሳምባ-ምች ሁኔታዎች እንደታዩ፡ የጤና ጥበቃ ባለ ስልጣኖች ኣሳወቁ። የዚህ የሳምባ-ምች፡ መነሻ ደግሞ፡ ኣንድ ከዚህ በፊት በሰዎች ታይቶ የማይታወቅ፡ የ2019 ኣዲስ የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ በመባል የሚታወቀው እንደሆነም፡ ተረጋገጠ። ይኽ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ ምንድን ነው፧

ኮሮና ቫይረስ ተብሎ የሚጠራው፡ ኣንድ ዋና የቫይረስ ቤተስብ ሆኖ፡ ከተለመደው የጉንፋን በሽታ ጀምሮ፡ እስከ የባሱትን የመንተፋሻ ኣካላት ተላላፊ በሽታዎች፡ እንደ ብሮካይቲስ፣ የሳምባ-ምችና (ኑሞኒያ)፡ ከባድና ኣጣዳፊ የመተንፋሻ ኣካላት በሽታ (ሳርስ) የመሳሰሉት በሽታዎች፡ ምንጭ የሆነ ቫይረስ ነው። የ2019 ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ (COVID-19)

የተላላፊ የሆኑትን የመተንፈሻ ኣካላት በሽታ ጠንቅ ሆኖ፡ በሁበይ ኣውራጃ (ዉሃን) የጀመረ ነው።

በኦንቴርዮ፡ የመጀመርያው ግምታዊ የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ፡ በጃኑዋሪ 25: 2020 ነው የተገኘው። ስለዚህ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ፡ በጥልቀት ለማወቅ ከፈለጋችሁ፡ በበይነ-መረብ ኣድራሻችን፡ ontario.ca/coronavirus በመሄድ ማየት ትችላላችሁ። የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ ምልክቶች፡ ምን ምን ናቸው፧

የዚህ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ ምልክቶች፡ ከተለመዱት የጉንፋን በሽታ ምልክቶች፡ እስከ ከባድ የሆኑ የመተንፈሻ ኣካላት በሽታ የሆኑትን፡ ያካትታል። እነሱም፥ - ትኩሳት - ሳል - የመተንፈስ ችግር።

ይኽ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ የሚስከትላቸው ችግሮች፡ እንደነ የሳምባ-ምች (ኑሞኒያ)፤ የኩላሊት መድከም/መሞትና: እስከ ሞት ድረስ ነው።

የምታዩባችሁ የብሽታ ምልክቶች፡ ከተለመዱ የጉንፋን በሽታ ምልክቶች የባሱ ከሆኑና (ለምሳሌ፡ ትኩሳት፣ ሳልና የእስትንፋስ እጥረት)፡

ምልክቶቹ ሲጀምሩ ደግሞ፡ በሁለት ሳምንታት ውስጥ፡ በብሽታው ተበክለው ባሉት ኣከባቢዎች፡ ተጉዛችሁ ከነበረ፡ በኦንቴርዮ የጤና መስመር 1-866790-0000 በመደወል፡ ወይም ደግሞ የኣካባቢያችሁ ሕዝባዊ የጤና ኣገልግሎት ማዕከል (Public Health) በ(health.gov.on.ca/en/common/system/services/phu/locations.aspx) በመሄድ ተገናኙን። የሚሰማችሁና ምልክቶቹ በሙሉ ደግሞ ንገሩዋቸው።

የ2019 ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ ከተበከሉት ኣካባቢዎች1፡ የተመለሳችሁ ከሆነ፡ ለኣስራ ኣራት ቀናት በቤት ተዘግታችሁ መቆየት ኣለባችሁ። ምናልባት ለበሽታው የተጋለጣችሁ ከሆነ፡ በቤት መዘጋትና፡ ከሌሎች ሰዎች የምታደርጉት ግንኙነቶች መቀነስ፡ በሽታው ወደ ሌሎች እንዳይተላለፍ ለመግታት ይረዳል። እባካችሁ፡ ባካባቢያችሁ ከሚገኘው፡ ሕዝባዊ የጤና ኣገልግሎት ማዕከል በ(health.gov.on. ca/en/common/system/services/phu/locations. aspx) በመሄድ፡ኣስፈላጊ ምክር ይጠይቁ።

ዋና የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ,የሚተላልፍበት መንገድ፡ ከሰዎች ከሚደረጉ የቅርብ ግኑኝነቶች ነው። ለምሳሌ፥ በቤታችሁ፣ በመስሪያ ቦታዎቻችሁና: በጤና ኣገልግሎት ማዕከሎች። ከዚህ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ: እራሴን እንዴት መጠበቅ እችላለሁ፧

ኣሁን በዚህ ጊዜ፡ ለዚህ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ የሚሆን: የክትባት መድኃኒት የለም። በየቀኑና በየሰዓቱ ማድረግ የሚገቡንና፡ በሽታው እንዳይተላለፍ ለመግታት የሚረዱን፡ የመከላከልያ ዜዴዎች ግን ኣሉ። • እጆቻችን በቀን ብዙ ጊዜ በሳሙናና በውኃ መታጠብ፡ ወይም ደግሞ፡ ኣልኮሆል ባለበት የንጽሕና ፈሳሽ ኣድርገን፡ እጆቻችን ማጽዳት • ስናስነጥስ ወይም ስንስል፡ ለኣፋችን በእጆቻችን እጅጌዎች ማፈን • ዓይኖቻችን፣ ኣፍንጫችንና ኣፋችን ከመነካካት መቆጠብ • በዚህ በሽታ ከተጠቁት ሰዎች፡ ኣለመገናኘት • ኣንተ እራስህ በቫይረሱ የተጠቃህ ከሆነ ደግሞ፡ ከቤት ኣለመውጣት። “በዚሁ ኣዲስ የኮሮና ቫይረስ የተበከሉት ኣገሮች ለማወቅ ከፈለጋችሁ፡ በ Ontario.ca/coronavirus በመሄድ ያንብቡ።” በቫይረሱ በተበከሉት ኣካባቢዎች ጉዞ ለማድረግ ዕቅድ ካለችሁ፡ ወደሚከተሉት ቦታዎች ከመሄድ ይቆጠቡ፥ • ለኣደጋ በጣም ከተጋለጡ ቦታዎች፡ እንደ እርሻ ቦታዎች፣ የከብቶችና ሌሎች እንስሶች ገበያ፣ እንስሶች ከሚታረዱበት ቦታዎችና፡ ስጋ ቤቶች። • ከሞቱት ይሁን በሕየውት ካሉ እንስሶች፡ እንደ ኣሳማ፣ ደሮችና ወፎች ሁሉ ኣለመገናኘት። • የእንስሶች ደምና ሰገራ ከነካቸው ገጽታዎች መጠበቅ። ለዚህ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ የሚሆን መድኃኒት ማግኘት እችላለሁ ወይ፧ ለዚህ በሽታ የሚሆን የተለየ መድኃኒት ወይም ክትባት የለም። በዚ በሽታ የተጠቁት ኣብዛኞቹ ሰዎች፡ ከዚህ ከተለመደ የኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ፡ በራሳቸው ቀስ ብለው ይድናሉ። ለመከላከል ይኽል፡ ማድረግ ያሉብን

ነገሮች ግን ኣሉ፥ ብዙ ውኃ መጠጣት ብዙ ዕረፍትና እንቅልፍ ማግኘት የቆሰለ ጉሮሮኣችን ለማዳን ደግሞ፡ ገላችን በሙቅ ውኃ መታጠብና: በቤታችን የእርጥበት ኣብናኝ መጠቀም። በጉዞ መኃል እያለሁ፡ ወይም ደግሞ ከጉዞየ ከተመለስኩ በኃላ፡ ከታመምኩስ፡ ምን ላድርግ፧ በጉዞ መኃል እያለህ፡ ወይ ከተመለስክ በኃላ ከታመምክ፡ መጀመርያ ከስዎች ከመገናኘት መቆጠብ ይኖርብሃል።

በኦንቴርዮ የጤና መስመር ቁጥር 1-866-797-0000 በመደወል፣ ወይም ባካባቢህ ከሚገኘው፡ ሕዝባዊ የጤና ኣገልግሎት ማዕከል በመሄድ፡ • የበሽታህ ስሜቶችና ምልክቶች • የት ኣከባቢ ተጉዘህ እንደነበር • ከእንስሶች ደግሞ የቅርብ ግኑኝነት ከነበሩህና (ለምሳሌ፡ የከብቶችና ሌሎች እንስሶች የሚሸጡበት ገበያ ሄደህ ከሆነ)፡ ወይም ደግሞ በበሽታም ከተበከለ ሰው ማንኛውንም ዓይነት ግንኙነት ከነበረህ፡ መንገር ኣለብህ። ወደ ካናዳ ስትመለስ፡ በኣውሮፕላን እያለህ፡ ወይም ደግሞ ኣዎሮፕላኑ ካረፈ በኃላ ከታመምክ፡ ለበረራ ኣስተናጋጆች፡ ወይም ደግሞ፡ ለየካናዳ የድንበር ኣገግሎቶች መኮንኖች፡ መንገር ይኖርብሃል።

ስለ ጉዞህና ስለ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ በተመለከት፡ ጥልቅ እውቀት እንዲኖርህ ከፈልግክህ፡ በ(travel.gc.ca/travels/advisories/pneumonia-china) በመሄድ፡ ማምበብ ትችላለህ። በኣዲሱ ቫይረስ ተጤቅቻለሁ ብዬ ካሰብኩስ፡ ምን ላድርግ፧ የኣዲሱ የ2019 ኣዲስ ኮሮና ቫይረስ በሽታ ስሜቶቻና ምልክቶች ከታዩብህ፡ የጤና መስመር 1-866-790-0000 በመደወል፡ ወይም ደግሞ የኣካባቢያችሁ ሕዝባዊ የጤና ኣገልግሎት ድርጅት (Public Health) በ(health.gov. on.ca/en/common/system/services/phu/locations.aspx) ተገናኙ። የሚሰማችሁና ምልክቶቹ በሙሉ ደግሞ ንገሩዋቸው።

ይሉታል፡፡ ዕለቱንም የተለያዩ የአውሮፓ አገሮች እንደየባህላቸው ያከብሩታል፡፡ የዘንድሮ አከባበር ግን እንደሁሌው ብቻ ሳይሆን በዕለቱ ከተከሰተው ቀለበታዊ የፀሐይ ግርዶሽ ጋር ተገጣጥሞላቸው አክብረውታል፡ ፡ ይህም በሰሜናዊ ንፍቀ ክበብ ባሉ አገሮች የበጋ ወቅት መጀመርያ ሲሆን፣ ከምድር ወገብ በሚገኙ አገሮች ከኢትዮጵያ በቀር የክረምት ወቅት የሚጀምርበት ነው፡፡ በኢትዮጵያ ባሕረ ሐሳብ መሠረት ግን ክረምት በይፋ የሚገባውና ወቅቱን ከፀደይ የሚረከበው ሰኔ 26 ቀን ነው፡፡ ግርዶሹ ወደ ደቡብ ሱዳን፣ ኢትዮጵያና ኤርትራ ከመሻገሩ በፊት የተነሳው ከኮንጎ ዴሞክራቲክ ሪፐብሊክ ነው፡፡ በቀይ ባሀር በኩል ወደ የመን፣ ፓኪስታን፣ ሰሜናዊ ህንድ፣ ቻይናና ታይዋንን አቋርጦ በፓስፊክ ውቅያኖስ አክትሟል፡፡ የቀለበታዊ ግርዶሽ አጠቃላይ ጉዞው -መሬት፣ ጨረቃና ፀሐይ ኅብር በፈጠሩበት ጁን 21 ቀንከምዕራብ ወደ ምሥራቅ 12 አገሮችን አካልሏል፡፡ በደቡብ ምሥራቅ እስያ በመጥፎ የአየር ሁኔታ ማየት የተቸገሩ ቢሆንም በሌሎች በርካታ አገሮች ውስጥ በከፊል ግርዶሽ መታየቱ ተዘግቧል፡፡ በሰሜን ዋልታ የተገጣጠሙት ሁለቱ ክስተቶች ዳግም ዕውን የሚሆኑት ከ19 ዓመት በኋላ ነው፡፡ የአፍሪካ የሥነ ፈለክ ማኅበር፣ ስለ ቀለበታዊ ግርዶሽና በተያያዥ ጉዳዮች ዙርያ ግንዛቤን የሚፈጥሩ ፖስተሮችና የተለያዩ ኅትመቶች ከማዘጋጀቱ ባለፈ ነፃ የአንድሮይድ መተግበሪያንም አማርኛን ጨምሮ በተለያዩ ቋንቋዎች አዘጋጅቶ ማሠራጨቱ ይታወሳል፡፡ ምንጭ፡ ሪፖርተር አማርኛ ( አልማዝ እንደላከችልን)

ኮቪድ-19 ኮሮና ቫየረሰ በቻይና ከተከሰተ ከጎርጎሪያኑ ታሀሳስ መጨረሻ ጀምሮ ቫየረሱ ከየት መጣ? ገዳይነቱስ ምን ያህል ነዉ? በግዑዝ ነገሮች ላይስ ምን ያህል ጊዜ ይቆያል? የሚሉትና ሌሎቸ አነዚህን የመሳሰሉ ጥያቄዎች ለወራት በብዙዎች ዘንድ ተደጋግመው የተነሱ ጉዳዮች ናቸዉ፡ ፡ ከዚህ ቀደም ተከስቶ የነበረዉና ኖቨል ኮሮና ቫይረስን ባስከተለዉ ሳረስ/ SARS-CoV-2/ ላይም ከኮሮና ቫይረስ ጋር ያለዉ ዝምድና ምንድን ነዉ? በሚል አሁንም ድረስ የሚነሳ ጥያቄም አለ፡፡ ጥያቄዎቹ በፌስቡክ፤ በቲዊተርና ጎግልን በመሳሰሉ የመረጃ ቋቶች ተደጋግመው የተነሱ ሲሆን፤ ተመራማሪዎችም በተቻለ መጠንና ፍጥነት መርምሮችን በማድረግ አነዚህና ሌሎች ጥያቄዎችን ለመመለስ እየሞከሩ ነው ፡፡ እስካሁን የተደረሱባቸዉን ግኝቶች እነሆ ፡፡ ኮቪድ 19 ክሳርስ ጋር ተመሳሳይ ነው?

በጎርጎሪያኑ ዘመን አቆጣጠር በ2003 ተከስቶ የነበረው የሳርስ ቫይረስ ፤ ኮቪድ 19ኝን ከሚያመጡት ቫይረሶች ጋር እጅግ ተቀራራቢ ቢሆኑም በሽታዎቹ ግን የተለያዩ ናቸዉ፡፡ የሳርስ በሽታ የመዛመት አቅሙ አነስተኛ የነበረ ቢሆንም የመግደል አቅሙ ግን 9.6 በመቶና እጅግ ከፍተኛ የሚባል ነበር፡ ፡ ኮቪድ -19 በአንፃሩ የመሰራጨት አቅሙ እጅግ ከፍተኛ ሲሆን የመግደል

አቅሙ 2 በመቶ ሆኖ ከእለት ወደ ዕለት እየጨመረ የመጣ በሽታ ነው፡ ፡ሁለቱም ግን ከእንስሳት ወደ ሰው የተላለፉ ናቸዉ፡፡ ሌላዉ ቫይረሱ ከእንሥሳት የመጣ ነዉን?

ቫይረሱ ከእንሥሳት የመጣ ነዉን? የሚለዉ ሌላዉ ጥያቄ ሲሆን በእርግጥ የኮሮና ቫይረስ ከአንስሳት በተለይም ከሌሊት ወፎች ወደ ሰው የተላለፈ በሽታ ነው ተበሎ በንድፈሀሳብ ደረጃ በሰፊዉ ይታመናል፡ ፡ ነገር ግን ቫይረሱ በእንስሳቱ ውስጥ በነበረበት ጊዜ የሰው ልጆችን ለማጥቃትና በሰዉነት ውስጥ ለመባዛት የሚያስቸለዉን ተከታታይና ከፍተኛ የዘር-መል ሂደቶችን ማለፉን ተመራማሪዎች ይገልጻሉ፡፡ ነገር ግን ቫይረሱ ሰዎችን ከማጥቃቱ በፊት ከአንስሳት ወደ አንስሳት ስለመተላለፉ አስካሁን ድረስ ሳይንሳዊ በሆነ ንድፈሀሳብ አልተረጋገጠም፡፡

ኔቸር የተባለዉ መጽሄት ባለፈው የካቲት ወር መጀመሪያ ባወጣዉ እትም ኖቭል ኮሮና ቫይረስ በዘረ-መል ደረጃ 96 በመቶ ከሌሊት ወፍ ኮሮና ቫይረስ ጋር ተመሳሳይነት አንዳለዉ የሚያሳይ ጥናት ይዞ ወጥቶ ነበር፡፡ አንዳንድ የሴራ ንድፈ ሀሳብ አራማጆች በበኩላቸው ቫይረሱ ሰው ሰራሽ የላብራቶሪ ውጤት ነው ብለው ይከራከራሉ፡፡ ያም ሆኖ በማዕከላዊ ቻይና የሁቤይ ግዛት መዲና በሆነችው ዉሃን ከተማ ሳርስ ኮቪ 2 ለመጀመሪያ ጊዜ ከእንስሳት ወደ ሰው መተላለፉን የሚያሳይ ጠንካራ ማስረጃ አለ፡፡ የኮቪድ 19 በሽታ ምልክት ለማሳየት ምን ያህል ጊዜ ይወስዳል?

የአንድ በሽታ የመራቢያ ጊዜ በእንገሊዘኛ አጠራሩ ኢንኪዩቤሽን ፔሬድ (incubation period) በሽታ አምጪ ተዋህሲያን ወደ ሰውነት ከገቡበት አንስቶ የበሽታው ምልክት እስከሚታይበት ድረስ ያለው ጊዜ ነው፡ ፡

ምልክቶቹ በምን ያህል ቀን ሊታይበት ይችላል የሚለው በግለሰቡ የበሽታ መከላከል አቅም የሚወሰን ቢሆንም አንድ ሰው የበሽታው አማጭ ቫይረስ ወደ ሰውነቱ ከገባበት ከመጀመሪያው እለት አንስቶ እስከ አስራ አራተኛው ቀን

ድረስ የበሽታውን ምልክቶች ሊያሳይ ይችላል፡፡ በአብዛኛው ግን እነዚህ ምልክቶች አንድ ሰው በቫይረሱ በተያዘ በአምስተኛው ቀን አከባቢ ሊታዩ እንደሚችሉም የኮቪድ 19ን የመራቢያ ጊዜ በተመለከተ የተደረጉ ጥናቶች ያሳያሉ፡፡ የኮቪድ-19 ምልክቶች ምንምን ናቸው?

በቫይረሱ የተያዘ ሰው በመጀመሪያ ትኩሳት ደረቅ ሳል የድካም ስሜት ከዚያም የጉሮሮ መድረቅ፣ መቁሰል፣ መከርከርና ለመተንፈሰ መቸገር/የትንፋሽ መቆራረጥ/ ያስከትላል፡፡ ከዚሀ በተጨማሪ በአንዳንድ ታማሚዎች ላይ የመገጣጠሚያ ሀመም፤ የአፍንጫ መታፈን፤ የተቅማጥና የማቀለሽለሽ ምልክት ሊታዩባቸው ይችላል፡፡

እነዚህ የበሽታ ምልክቶች ሲጀምሩ ቀለል ባለ መለክ ጀምረው ቀስ በቀስ ግን እየጨመሩ የሚሄዱ ናቸው:፡ አንዳንድ ሰዎች ደግሞ በበሽታው ተይዘውም ምንም ዓይነት ምልክትም ይሁን ህመም ላይታይባቸው ይችላል:፡ ነገር ግን ወደ ሌላ ሰው ሊያሰራጩ ይችላሉ፡፡በኮቪድ 19 ከተያዙ ከስድስት ሰዎች በአንዱ በከፍተኛ ሁኔታ መታመም እና የመተንፈስ ችግር ሊያጋጥም ይችላል:: በተለይ እድሜያቸው የገፉ እና ከዚህ ቀደም ሌሎች በሽታዎች ያሉባቸዉ ከሆነ፡፡ የቫይረሱ የመግደል እቅም ምን ያህል ነው ?

የኮሮና ቫየረስ ይገድላል ወይ? የሚለዉ ጠያቄ ተደጋግሞ የሚነሳ ጠያቄ ነዉ:: ነገር ግን መልሱ “አዎ” ወይም “አይደለም” በሚል በቀላሉ የሚመለስ አይደለም ልክ የጉንፋንና የመኪና አደጋን ሞት በትክክል መተነበይ አንደማይችለው ሁሉ መናገር የሚቻለው ለሞት ሊያበቁ ይችሉ ይሆናል ተብለው የሚጠቀሱ ምናልባታዊ መረጃዎችን ነዉ፣ ያም ቢሆን የኮቪድ-19 ጉዳይ ቀላል አይደለም፡፡ አናም የቁጥሮችን እና የቃላት አጠቃቀምን ትርጉም ያለው ለማድረግና ኮሮናን በተመለከት ያለውን ግራ መጋባት ለማስወገድ አሃዛዊ ትንታኔ ማድረግን ይጠይቃል፡፡

ከለንደኑ የንጽህና እና ትሮፒካል ህከመና ትምህርት ቤት የሂሳብ ሊቀ የሆኑት አዳም ኩቻርስኪ የቫይረሱ የሞት መጠን ከ 0.5 እስከ

2% እንደሆነ ያሰላሉ፡፡ ያ ማለት በቫይረሱ ከተጠቁ አንድ መቶ ሰዎች መካከል አንድ ወይም ሁለት ሰዎች ይሞታሉ ማለት ነው፡፡ ቫይረሱ በአየር ውስጥ ወይም በሌሎች ቁሶች ላይ ለምን ያህል ጊዜ ሊቆይ ይችላል?

የኮሮና ቫየርስ የመተንፈሻ አካላትን የሚያጠቃ በሽታ በመሆኑ ቫይረሱ በዋነኝነት የሚተላለፈው በቫየረሱ የተጠቃ ሰው በሚስልበተ ወይም በሚያስነጥስበት ጊዜ ወደ አየር በሚለቀቁ ጠብታዎች ነው፡፡

አንደ የጀርመን የፌደራል የስጋት ምዘና ተቋም (ቢኤፍ አር) የመጀመሪያዎቹ የላቦራቶሪ ሙከራዎች እንደሚያመለክቱት ከኮቪደ-19 በፊት ተከስቶ በነበረው በኖብል ሳረስ ኮቪ-2/ SARS-CoV-2/ በጣም በተበከለ በአየር ለሦስት ሰዓታት ያህል በመዳብነከ ቁሶቸ እስከ አራት ሰአታት በካርቶን እስከ 24 ሰዓታት እና በማይዝግ ብረት እና በፕላስቲክ ደገሞ ከሁለት ወይም ሶስት ቀናት የቆያል ፡፡

ግን መልካሙ ዜና ቫይረሱ ከሰዎች ሰውነት ከወጣ በሕይወት ለመኖር ቀጠተኛ የሆነ አስቻይ ሁኔታ እንዲኖር ይፈልጋል፡፡ ያ ከሌለ ቫይረሱ እራሱን ማባዛትና ማቆየት ስለማይችል በጠቂት ጊዜ ይሞታል፡፡ በሌላ በኩል በቁሶች ላይ የተወሰን ጊዜ በህይወት የመቆየት እድል ቢኖረዉ እንኳ በዚሀ ሁኔታ ሰዎችን የማጥቃት እድሉ ደካማ መሆኑን ተመራማሪዎች ይገልፃሉ፡፡

በተጨማሪም ከላይ የተጠቀሰው የቫይረሱ በህይወት የመቆየት እድል በተመቻቸ የቤተሙከራ ሁኔታ የተጠና ሲሆን የሙቀትና የቀዘቃዜ ለውጥ እንዲሁም የፀሐይ ብርሀንን የመሳሰሉ ውጫዊ ምክንያቶች ቫይረሱ በቁሶች ላይ ተረጋገቶ እንዳይቀመጥ ተፅኖ ሊያሳድሩ ይችላሉ ፡፡ ራስን ከቫይረሱ እንዴት መጠበቅ ይቻላል? ኮቪድ 19 ኢትዮጵያን ጨምሮ በመላው ዓለም በሚገኙ 187 አገሮች የተሰራጨ ሲሆን በዚህም ሳቢያ እስካሁን ክእ9 ሚሊዮን የሚጠጉ ሰዎች በቫይረሱ ተይዘዋል፡፡ ከ400ሺህ በላይ ሰዎች ደግሞ ለሀልፈተ ህይዎት ተዳረገዋል። በመሆኑም ራሰን ከዚህ ገጽ 13 ይመልከቱ

ወረርሽኝ ለመጠበቅ የበሽታዉ መልክቶች ካለባቸዉ ሰዎች መራቅ፣ ቢሚያስነጥሱና በሚያሰሉበት ወቀት ተገቢዉን ጥንቃቄ ማደረግ፣ እጅን እዘዉትሮ መታጠብ ፣ ከሌሎች ሰዎች አካላዊ ርቀትን መጠበቅና እና ክማሕህበራዊ ግንኙነቶች ለጊዜው መራቅ ያስፈልጋል። እነዚህንና የመሳሰሉትን ጥንቃቄዎች በማድረግ እራስን ለመጠበቅ ብቻ ሳይሆን የቫይረሱን ስርጭትም ለመግታት የሚረዳ ነው። ያ ካልሆነ ግን የቫይረሱ ሰርጭት ጠንካራ የጤና ሰረአት የዘርጉትን ጀርመንን የመሳሰሉ ሀገሮች ሳይቀር የሚያሽመደምድ መሆኑን ባለሙያዎች እያስጠንቀቁ ነዉ። ለዚሀም የመሰላል በጀርመን የፌደራል የበሽታ ቁጥጥር እና መከላከል ኤጀንሲ ሮበርት ኮህ የተባለዉ ተቋም ፕሬዝዳንት ሎተር ዊለር የጥንቃቄ እርምጃዎቹ ያለመታከት መተግበር አለባቸው ሲሉ አፅናኦት የሰጡት፡ ፡ ያ ካለሆን ግን ፣ በመጪዎቹ በሁለት ወይም በሦስት ወራት ውስጥ በጀርመን ሀገር ብቻ 10 ሚሊዮን ተጨማሪ የቫይረሱ ተጠቂዎች ሊኖሩ ይችላሉ በማለት አስጠንቅቀዋል፡፡ አስካሁን ክትባት ወይም መድሃኒት አልተገኘምን?

በመሰረቱ ውጤታማ እና ደህንነቱ የተጠበቀ ክትባት ለማዘጋጀት በተለምዶ ዓመታትን ይወስዳል። ያም ሆኖ በአለም ዙሪያ በኮሮና ቫይረስ ክትባት ላይ ያተኮሩ 47 በሂደት ላይ ያሉ ምርምሮች መኖራቸዉን የጀርመኑ የመድሃኒት አምራች ኩባንያዎች ማህበር መረጃ ያሳያል ፡፡ ከነዚህም ውስጥ አነዱና ዋነኛው የጀርመኑ ኪዩር ቫክ የተሰኘዉ ኩባንያ ሲሆን፣ የጀርመኑ የተላላፊ በሽታዎች ምርምር ማዕከልም (DZIF) ቫይረሱን መቋቋም የሚያሰችል ክትባት ለማግኘት ምርምር በማድረግ ላይ ያለ ተቋም ነው ፡፡ የተቋሙ ተመራማሪዎች ቀደም ሲል የተዘጋጁና ጥቅም ላይ የዋሉ ክትባቶችን እንደመነሻ በመጠቀም የኮሮቫይረስን ክትባት ለማገኘት እየሰሩ ነው ።

ምንም እንኳን ሊቃውንቱ በከፍተኛ ደረጃ እየሠሩ ቢሆንም በዚህ አመት ገበያ ላይ የሚውል መደበኛ ክትባት መጀመር አዳጋች የመሰላል፡፡ መክንያቱም ከትባቱን ለማረጋገጥ የሚረዱ ወሳኝ የሚባሉትን ክሊኒካዊ የምርምር ሂደቶች ለማለፍ

ረዘም ያለ ጊዜ ይጠይቃልና፡፡ ነገር ግን ክዚህ ምርምር ጎን ለጎን “ፓሲቭ ኢሚዩናየዜሽን”የተባለ በጊዜያዊነት ቫየረሱን ለመቋቋም የሚያስችል ከትባት በመፍጠር ላይ ናችው፡፡ ከትባቱ ከዚሀ ቀደም ከበሽታዉ ካገገሙ ሰዎች ደም ውስጥ የተገኘውን ለየት ያለ ተሐዋሲውን የመቋቋም የተፈጥሮ ነጥረ-ነገር በመጠቀም በክትባት መልክ የሚሰጥና ቫይረሱን ለመዋጋት የሚያስችል ነው።

ይህ ክትባት ፤ የታማሚው ሰውነት በራሱ የበሽታ መከላከያ ስላላመረተ የሚሰጥ ድጋፍ ሲሆን የራሱ የሆነ ጥቅም እና ጉዳት አለው። ጥቅሙ ቫይረሱን ለመዋጋትና በሽታውን ለመከላከል ማስቻሉ ሲሆን ጉዳቱ ደግሞ እርዳታው ዘላቂ አለመሆኑና ለአጭር ጊዜ ብቻ የሚያገለግል መሆኑ ነው። ኮቪድ 19ኝን የሚፈውስ መድሃኒትና የሚከላከል ክትባት ለማግኘት የሚደረገው ምርምር በዚህ መልኩ የቀጠል ሲሆን ለጊዜዉ ያለዉ በቸኛ መፍትሄ ግን ራሰን ከቫይረሱ መጠበቅ ብቻ ነዉ። ኮቪድ 19 በሽታ በቫይረስ አማካይነት የሚከሰት በሽታ በመሆኑም ፀረ- ባክቴሪያ መድሃኒቶች የኮቪድ 19 በሽታ ለመዳን አይረዱም፡ የህመም ማሰታገሻዎችም የሚመከሩ አይደሉም።

በአሁኑ ወቅት የኮሮና በሽታን ለመከላከል የሚረዳ መደሃኒት ለማገኘት በዓለም ዙሪያ ወደ 70 የሚጠጉ መድኃኒቶች ላይ ሙከራ እየተካሄደ ነው;፡ክጀርመን የመድኃኒት ቁጥጥር ኮሚሽን ሊቀመንበርና ለሀከመና ባለሙያዉ ወልፍ-ዲተር ሉድቪሽ ከነዚሀ መካከል ሁለቱ የተሻሉ ናቸው ።

“ሪሜዲቪር እና ሃይድሮክሎሎሮኪን በእርግጠኝነት የምስማማባቸውና በገልፅ በአንደኛ እና በሁለተኛ ደረጃ ላይ የሚቀመጡ ናቸው ፡፡ ምክንያቱም መድሀኒቶቹ የበለጠ ተስማሚና በአሁኑ ጊዜ ከሌሎች መድኃኒቶች ጋር ያላቸው መስተጋብርም አነስተኛ ነው፡ ፡ ለመድሃኒት ቤቶችም ምን ያህል ክሎሮኪን ወይም ሃይድሮክሎክሎኪን እንዳላቸው ጥያቄዉ ቀደም በሎ ቀርቧል ።”

ሁለት በጠና በታመሙ የቫየረሱ ተጠቂዎች ለማከም እየተሞከረ ነው፡፡ ከሊኒኩ በዚህ ሙከራ ላይ ስለተገኘው ዉጤት እስካሁን ያለው ነገር የለም፡፡

በሁለተኛ ደረጃ በሙከራ ላይ ያለው መድሃኒት ደገሞ ፣ ክሎሮኪን የተባለዉ የወባ መድሀኒት ነዉ፡፡

“የወባ መድሃኒት በእኛ ዘንድ በጣም የታወቀ ነው። ይህ ነጥረነገር ለብዙ ዓመታት በፀረ-ቫይረስ ዉህድነቱ የታወቀ ሲሆን የሕዋስ ጥናቶች እነደሚያሳዩት ክሎሮኩዊን እና ሃይድሮክሎሮኪን ሁለቱም የሳርስ ቫይረሶችን ለመዋጋት ችለዋል፡፡ ይህ መድሃኒት በእርግጠኝነት አስደናቂ ነው፡ ፡ ምክንያቱም በሌሎች ምልከታዎች የተረጋገጠ ሆኖ በመገኘቱ በከፍተኛ ደረጃ በCOVID-19 ለተጠቁ ሰዎች አማራጭ ሕከምና ሊሆን ይችላል ፡፡”

ከእነዚህ ዉህዶች መካከል አንዱ ታማሚዎችን የሚረዳ መሆኑ ከተረጋገጠና የመደሃኒተ ቁጥጥር ባለሰለጣናት ፈጣን መላሽ ከሰጡ ሉዲቪሽ ኧነደሚሉት በተያዘዉ አመት በአዉሮፓ በቫይረሱ ተጥቀተዉ በሳንባ ምች ለሚሰቃዩ ሰዎች መፍትሄ ሊገኝ ይችላል ፡፡ነገር ግን እስካሁን የተረጋገጠ ነገር የለም፡፡ በብዙ የመደሃኒት አምራች ኩባንያዎችም ሁኔታውን ገንዘብ የማግኛ ዘዴ የማድረግ አዝማሚያ ይታያል፡፡ እንዲህ መሰሎቹ ምርመሮች ግን እጅግ ጥንቃቄ የሚያስፈልጋቸው መሆኑን ወልፍ-ዲተር ሉድቪሽ ያስጠነቅቃሉ፡፡

“.በአስቸኳይ የህከምና መድሃኒቶች ፍላጎትና አማራጮችን ሰበብ በማደረግ በእርግጥ ብዙ ገንዘብ ማግኘት ይችላል፡፡ ስለዚህ ለነፃ ሳይንቲስቶች እና ክሊኒኮች እነዚህን ጥናቶችና ውጤቶቻቸውን በጣም በጥንቃቄ መመርመር እና የመረጃ እሴታቸውን መመዘን እጅግ በጣም አስፈላጊ ነው ፡፡”፡፡ የኮሮና ቫይረስ ክቤተ እንስሳት ወደ ሰው ሊተላለፍ ይችላላን?

መለሱ አዎ ይተላለፋል የሚል ሲሆን፤ በዚህ የተነሳ የስዊስ ፌዴራል የምግብ ደህንነት እና የእንስሳት ጤና ጥበቃ ጽ / ቤትም (BLV) የቤት እንስሳት ያሏቸዉ ሰዎች ከእንስሳቱ ጋር ንክኪ እንዳይኖራቸው ይመክራል፡፡ ነገር ግን ዉሻና ድመትን የመሳሰሉ የቤት እንስሣት እስካሁን ምንም አይነት የመጠቃት ወይም

የህመም ምልክቶች አልታየባችዉም፡፡ ይህ ሁኔታ አደጋውን ለመገመት ከባድ ቢያደርገዉም ፤ እንስሳቱ በበሽታው ክተያዙ በንድፈ ሃሳቡ ደረጃ ቫይረሱን ሊያሰራጩ ይችላሉ፡፡ ለምሳሌ ሳርስ የተባለውን በሽታ የሚያሰከትለው የኮሮና ቫይረስ ከእንሥሳት ወደ ሰው የተላለፈ እንደነበር ልብ ይሏል፡፡ ነብሰ ጡር ሴቶችሰ የበለጠ ተጋላጭ ናቸውን?

የኮሮና ወረርኝ እድሜያቸው የገፋ ሰዎች፤ እነዲሁም በከቪድ 19 ከመያዛቸው በፊት እንደ ከፍተኛ የደም ግፊት፤ የልብ ድካም፤ ስኳር እንዲሁም የአስም እና የሳንባ ካንሰር ያለባቸውን ሰዎች በይበልጥ እያጠቃ ይገኛል፡ ፡ ዓለም አቀፉ የጤና ድርጅት እና የጀርመን የፌደራል የጤና ትምህርት ማዕከል መረጃ መሠረት ነብሰጡር ሴቶች በበሽታው ተጋላጭነታቸው ከፍተኛ ነዉ ከሚባሉት ዝርዝር ውስጥ አልተካተቱም። ሆኖም ፣ ነፍሰ ጡር ሴቶች አርግዝናው በሰዉነታቸው ላይ ከሚያሳድረዉ ጫና አንጻር ልዩ ጥንቃቄ አንዲያደርጉ ይመከራል፡፡

Ontario extends state of emergency to July 15; premier hopes it's last extension The Canadian Press

ORONTO -- Ontario has extended its state of emergency to July 15.

Premier Doug Ford has said he is hopeful that will be the last extension of the emergency declaration.

The motion passed the legislature this morning.

Many of the emergency orders made under the state of emergency are expected to continue even after July 15, including bans on large gatherings.

After the state of emergency expires, the province won’t be able to make

new emergency orders, amend them, or re-enact old ones, but existing ones can be extended.

Local medical officers of health will still have certain powers under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, which is what some have used to require masks in commercial establishments.

Ontario’s two most heavily populated regions will see more businesses open their doors today as Toronto and Peel move into the next stage of the province’s COVID-19 recovery plan.

The two regions officially enter Stage 2 of the pandemic reopening framework, joining nearly all the rest of the province that began ramping up activities over the past two weeks.

Windsor-Essex

remains the only region not cleared to move to the next phase, due to stubbornly high COVID-19 case numbers on farms in the region.

Businesses given the green light to resume operations in Toronto and Peel today include hair stylists, pools and tour guide services.

Restaurants are also allowed to reopen their patios for dine-in service, though no one is yet allowed to be served indoors.

In all cases, the Ontario government says proper physical distancing measures must be maintained to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Why the Blue Jays may not be able to play in Toronto this year

TORONTO -- With Major League Baseball not currently proposing a hub-city model for a potential 2020 season, the Toronto Blue Jays may be forced to find a venue outside Canada to play home games.

When asked about the Blue Jays training or playing games in Toronto during the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada's chief public health officer did not raise the possibility of waiving quarantine rules.

"When (the players) come back to training, they are subjected to the 14 days of quarantine. ... As the teams coalesce and come together, there are the concepts of cohorting and group quar-

antine whereby the players have to remain together and pose no risk to themselves or surrounding population so that's the concept," Dr. Theresa Tam said.

Canada has waived the 14-day quarantine for Vancouver, Edmonton or Toronto being a potential NHL hub city, agreeing to a cohort quarantine where teams stay in an essential bubble during the Stanley Cup tournament.

With teams entering and exiting Canada regularly during a potential 60-game baseball season without fans, the NHL approach would be impossible to duplicate.

Dr. David Williams, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, said he has not received a specific proposal for games in Canada from MLB.

"The Major League Baseball proposal (for a season), I've seen it and read it, it deals with a lot of aspects there," he said. "It

Trudeau’s remarks came about a week after Canada’s three major grocers scrapped so-called pandemic wage premiums for their staff.

“The people who step up in the midst of the most serious times to ensure that Canadians can still put food on the table, that they can get deliveries they need, that shelves are stocked, that Canadian continue to be safe and fed are heroes of this pandemic every bit as much as our front-line health workers and emergency responders,” he said at a news conference in Chelsea, Que., after being asked for his reaction to the pay clawback.

Loblaw Companies Ltd., Metro Inc. and Empire Co. announced last week they would stop paying an hourly premium to store workers starting June 13.

Loblaw and Metro both had been paying workers an extra $2 an hour since March 8, while Empire offered a weekly bonus to all employees and a $2 hourly wage bump to those working more than 20 hours a week.

The companies provided various explanations for the decision, which was slammed by two unions that represent the workers.

Loblaw stores settled into a more stable situation, a spokesperson said at the time, adding the company has invested more than $280 million into safety measures and “is no longer benefiting financially from COVID-19.”

Metro and Empire noted a similar stability.

Workers who stepped up should be supported: Trudeau

Trudeau said that the people who have stepped up to help Canadians, often while risking their health or safety, should continue to be supported and respected.

“That’s why we will continue to exhort and expect that people who’ve stepped up during this time be properly supported and paid for it,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was also asked about the decision at an Ottawa news conference Friday and whether it would impact if the companies receive future funding or access to programs.

“I hope that one of the things that this pandemic has taught us is that people who do some of the work which is most essential for our actual, our literal survival are among the lowest paid people in our country,” she said.

“I’m sure that was frightening for many of them,” she said, adding she has told workers at her local grocery stores just how grateful she is

for their service.

“I do think that it behoves all of us, including employers, not to forget that lesson.”

Freeland added that the House has heard concerns that government support to Canadians may have provided a disincentive to work.

“I think the fact that grocery stores now feel able to bring the wages back down suggests that there isn’t a powerful disincentive to work out there,” she said.

A Metro spokesperson declined to comment, while Loblaw and Empire did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trudeau and Freeland’s statements.

Ethiopia will not accept any agreement in the name of GERD negotiations that could deny its future development rights on Nile River, Foreign Minister, Gedu Andargachew said.

Gedu told ENA that despite the recent progressive talks on the most prominent technical issues, the tripartite talks on the legal issues are still far from accord and the negotiation has halted.

He said that Egypt is trying to manipulate the negotiation on the dam as pretext to limit Ethiopia’s right on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in the name of “negotiation”.

Citing Ethiopia has been in talks prioritizing its mega dam, the minister said, the issue of the dam is a single part of the fair utilization of Nile. So, the general issue of the utilization of Nile River should be tabled based on the cooperation agreement that includes all riparian countries.

The importance of public health in times like this cannot be denied and has never been more compelling. Yet business, as usual, continues to overshadow and undervalue it as the focus on bolstering the economy intensifies.

Health and the economy are intimately intertwined, and the situation in which we find ourselves today is a direct consequence of the dance between health and the economy over the past several decades.

The neo-liberal agenda has led us to believe that economic growth will bring wellbeing to the masses, but in reality it has often simply made the rich richer and the poor poorer.

COVID-19 is a stark reminder that when push comes to shove, it is not the wealthy who will pull us through. It is our health care system: the health care workers, the hospitals that have long needed renovations, and the programs that have been chronically underfunded.

As a physician, I am deeply immersed in the front line response to COVID-19.

Between preparedness activities, which range from meetings – with department heads, perioperative, maternal and neonatal health committees, with nurses, with Infection Control – to simulations, webinars, online courses, and patient care, I look around and reflect on the larger

implications of what we are experiencing now.

This pandemic, like all pandemics before it, will run its course. When it ends, we are going back to the older epidemics that plague our health care system: obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, social inequalities, and an underfunded public health care system that often seems to take a back seat to political and economic interests.

I can't help but wonder if the COVID-19 pandemic will be a turning point in public health policy.

Will this bring change to the unsatisfying trends in globalization? After the physical distancing ends, will we have the courage, as a generation, to stand up and demand that smart, informed, practical public health policy be fixed at the core of public and private economic actions?

In 2003, Samuel Preston gave us the Preston Curve. This showed us that life expectancy was directly proportional to GDP per capita – on average, people in wealthier countries tend to live longer than those in poorer nations - but only up to a point. After a certain GDP level, life expectancy flattened out.

as an indicator for health, but of course health is so much more than a person's number of birthdays. Critics of the Preston Curve point to the importance of things such as literacy, nutrition, and overall public health.

In addition, factors such as social justice, spirituality, and social relationships are all important to what the World Health Organization (WHO) defines in its constitution as not merely the absence of disease, but "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being."

The conclusion is clear: wealth does not equal health.

COVID-19 is a tragic reminder of this.

Developed countries such as Italy, France, Spain and the U.S. have been devastated by the extent and death toll of COVID-19. Health care workers everywhere have suffered high infection rates, and essential supplies such as ventilators and personal protective equipment have been in short supply. In Canada, large and small hospitals alike have been concerned about their ability to cope with a surge of COVID-19 patients while maintaining essential services for the rest.

What is the benefit of promoting an economic system of financial elitism if, in the face of an international crisis such as the one we are in now, longterm care facilities are overcrowded, hospitals do not have sufficient space to properly isolate suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients, and physicians have to decide which severely sick patient has access to an intensive care unit bed and which does not?

Without strong public health policy at the core of our social and economic systems, wealth is meaningless.

In a post-pandemic world facing the reality of a possible recession, a critical analysis of our preparedness, our response, and what it tells about societies will ensue with a vengeance.

Will we be satisfied with the status quo of economic growth for the sake of growth, or will we demand economic recovery that also enables true health – that state of complete wellbeing that keeps eluding us?

Will we demand that government investments in economic initiatives also translate to investments in our public health?

Or will we go back to the way we were, where politicians promise us clean air but invest in pipelines? Where much-needed hospital expansions take a back-seat to bureaucratic processes and personal interests? Where health care workers are scrutinized, belittled and deemed dishonest – and only hailed when, already underfunded and burnt out, they show up to work every day in the middle of a pandemic?

As this crisis unfolds, we must ask ourselves these important questions.

When it is past us, we must ask our political representatives these difficult questions and demand answers prior to casting votes. We need a paradigm shift.

No one thinks that the News industry has any social or nation-building value. Until, that is, they look for a third party to acknowledge, validate their existence or defend their interests against those mightier than they in the court of public opinion.

Now Covid-19 has laid bare the tenuous position of the traditional news-gathering apparatus, dependant, as it has become, on civic-minded private sector advertising dollars or government obligations to inform its citizenry through paid advertising.

No one is advertising. Even after more than two decades of “consolidation”, major news outlets in the print sector remain precarious. Some are going out of business (Torstar). Others are foreign controlled (Postmedia). The electronic carriers rely on the undeserved government largesse lavished on virtual monopolies or the “cultural industries” manipulated by them.

Then there is the CBC and the National Ethnic Press and Media Council (NEPMCC). The

CBC receives in excess of $1.5 billion in government grants annually.

The NEPMCC is treated as an orphaned beggar.

Yet, virtually everyone recognizes that the Press/Media contextualizes what happens, identifies the personalities and the issues, analyzes the factors at play, critiques and evaluates for public consumption the public desirability of specific events and actions.

To be blunt, it tells the world who we are and “how we fit in”; whether we matter or whether we are mere onlookers.

In a democratic society, it nurtures the productive vigilance necessary to maintain our collective and individual rights and freedoms while advocating for, and promoting, egalitarianism (equality). It is the only defense against marginalization. It gives voice where the status quo may prefer silence.

Additionally, and, for some, more significantly, it is still the most efficient method of explaining and propagating those distinctive values - icons – that define

our culture.

Canada’s “culture” is officially “multicultural”. It is one that celebrates equality among a diverse population of different ethnic, racial, religious, and linguistic origins.

In a country that is “officially bilingual”, local authorities have been delivering services in many languages, as matter of practicality. They have become “multilingual” because people (citizens), in the comfort of their home and their “community” speak a language that is more reflective of who they are, even if their children are educated in a “mainstream” language.

For them, “bilingual” in effect means being able to speak one of the two official languages plus their own. Regardless of political stripe, governments which engage in “nationbuilding” seem reticent to acknowledge this fact, except when in politicalpandering campaign mode.

It may be a surprise for many Canadians, but the third -language group is second only to the Anglophone in number.

Given Immigration policies, it is the only one growing.

Census 2016 discovered that 23% of the population communicates in a “third” language. Who is reaching them?

Over the last four months, unless one has been transfixed to a TV to receive, and swallow, the agenda delivered “live” by various governments, how would society know what happened?

Sixty percent of ethnic language periodicals have ceased publication.

That number may rise to ninety percent if the Covi19 crisis lasts much longer.

The damage, culturally and in terms of jobs and activity lost, will surely reflect on senior levels of government.

Interestingly, the National Ethnic Press and Media Council (which boasts more than 650 active members) has presented a documented proposal to governments at the Federal and Provincial levels for annual based funding that would address shortcomings in communications and cultural developments.

The difficulty of raising black boys in predominantly white neighbor Decades of slavery, segregation, and systemic discrimination have left a deep scar on the United States. Despite the dramatic achievements in civil rights protection, systemic discrimination and segregation are still an inevitable element of daily life for Blacks in America. Black boys are particularly vulnerable to the risks of discrimination. African Americans are still stereotyped as being dangerous, violent, and aggressive. Because of these stereotypes, they have a hard time connecting with peers of other races. The society’s attitude toward black boys can be challenging to change.

What does it mean for a black boy to be growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood? Raz Robinson (2018) shares an emotional narrative in his article published in Fatherly: on his way home from school, he was stopped by police. “A resident of the small Pennsylvania town where I lived had called about a ‘suspicious character’. That was me” (Robinson, 2018). The story is a great example of segregation in action, a phenomenon that many want to believe does not exist in the 21st century. It is also a great example of stereotyping when mostly white residents in middle-income neighborhoods label their black neighbors as potentially dangerous, suspicious, and risky.

Relatively speaking, growing up as a black boy is more complicated than being a black girl in the same white neighborhood. Garcia (2018) cites the

results of a recent study, which has revealed the complexities facing black boys compared to black girls. Black boys, more than black girls, experience a sense of insecurity and increased scrutiny in neighborhoods with mostly white residents (Garcia, 2018). Black girls say that they do not experience the same level of anxiety in similar situations (Garcia, 2018). The problem is partly due to increased media coverage of violent clashes between African American males and police. However, it is also due to unresolved stereotypes and systemic discrimination that have hindered American society's real progress for decades.

Another study has revealed a significant socioeconomic and cultural gap between Black and white men; this gap was relatively small between black and white girls (Matthews, 2018).

According to Robinson (2018), some African Americans (like his parents) have to accept the state of affairs, since they want to live in a peaceful and decent neighborhood. They may feel it is a fair exchange – accepting and managing stereotypes as a form of permission to live in a decent neighborhood.

There is a complex underlying for race-identity relationship.

In the past centuries, race has unchangeably been an indicator and a critical component of human identity. One may say that race is a social construct and a cultural invention (Smedley, 1999). Yet, the reality is quite different: race shapes identity; moreover, it is an instrument of

social stratification, which reinforces the existing inequities and makes them even more visible (Smedley, 1999). Identity in 21st century America is unimaginable without race. People are judged by appearance, and race plays one of the primary roles in this process. Likewise, black boys who grow up in white neighborhoods learn about the importance of race early in life. For some of them, these experiences can be quite painful. Others learn to take racial encounters as an unavoidable aspect of their lives. Stereotyping remains increasingly prevalent among whites, and many do not realize the extent to which it damages the identity, progress, and future of their African American counterparts.

Stereotyping has profoundly negative implications for African Americans who grow up and live in predominantly white neighborhoods. At a very basic level, African American children who do not receive enough support and encouragement from their parents will experience low self-esteem and have a hard time socializing with peers (Robinson, 2018).

They will have a misbalanced perception of their social role and identity. In addition to stereotyping, these distorted perceptions of social and racial reality will act as barriers to developing and maintaining healthy relationships with other kids. Unfortunately, many of these black children in white neighborhoods will have to live in a world dominated by stereotypes of black boys being violent, aggressive, and intim-

idating.

The society holds numerous misconceptions about black boys. Media strengthens these negative attitudes. African American men are depicted as violent. Media share compelling narratives of criminality as closely associated with masculinity and African American descent (Donaldson, 2015). As such, black boys experience the heavy pressure of stereotypes compared to their peers. Individuals and families who have never had a Black friend or neighbor readily embrace these stereotypes. Continued, systemic segregation creates a serious gap in the public consciousness and does not allow families to interact more closely. Media assume the role of the primary communicator, but their messages are prone to distortion and bias. As such, like many years ago, black boys have few opportunities to integrate into a predominantly white society, which keeps treating them as a major source of threat and social instability in an increasingly multiracial world.

Directions 1. Combine the lemon juice and salt in a large, nonreactive mixing bowl and stir until slightly dissolved. Add the chicken thighs, one at a time, dipping both sides of each piece in the marinade to coat. Cover and allow to marinate in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

2. While the chicken is marinating, purée the onions, garlic and ginger in a food processor or blender. Add a little water, if necessary, to get the blades moving.

3. Heat the butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat and stir in the paprika to color the oil. Stir in the berbere paste and cook for 3 minutes, until heated through. Add the onion mixture and sauté until most of the moisture evaporates and the mixture reduces, about 15 minutes.

4. Pour in the stock and wine, add cayenne to taste and season with salt and pepper. Remove the chicken from the lemon juice and discard the marinade. Add the chicken to the pot and cover with sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 45 minutes, flipping the chicken halfway through. Add water, if necessary, to maintain the liquid level.

5. Add the whole hard-boiled eggs and continue to cook until the chicken is very tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Adjust seasoning and serve hot with injera bread or rice.
