The borough of Upper Saddle River is located in the northernmost part of Bergen County, along the New York border. An affluent community, it boasts large homes, 1-acre zoning and a bucolic countryside with streams and rolling hills. Upper Saddle River is a haven of beautiful homes and gardens with rich historical roots. Once farmland, the town prides itself on its modern, yet rural, feel. Upper Saddle River offers convenient access to main roads for commuters to take in order to travel around the state or into Manhattan. These roads include Route 17 and the Garden State Parkway. Residents who take public transportation can take Short Line buses from Upper Saddle River to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Short Line stops in the borough are located on Saddle River Road and Lake Street.

Upper Saddle River is bounded by seven municipalities: Mahwah, Montvale, Ramsey, Saddle River, as well as small portions of Woodcliff Lake in Bergen County, New Jersey; and both Airmont and Chestnut Ridge in the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County, New York. It was established in 1894. Upper Saddle River was originally settled by the Lenape Native Americans and was colonized in the 18th century principally by Dutch settlers who built mills along the Saddle River.
