Ramsey - Prosperous Community Offers Diverse Mix of Architectural Styles

The borough of Ramsey boasts a three-century history as a prosperous community in Bergen County. Mixing one-family homes, condominiums and apartment buildings, the architectural styles are just as varied. Although many of the borough’s original fieldstone structures still exist, they are now interspersed with Colonials, Cape Cods, Victorians and ranches. The downtown district features shops, restaurants and a robust nightlife.

JUST THE FACTS

Ramsey is bordered by the Bergen County municipalities of Allendale on the southeast, Mahwah on the north, west, and southwest and by Saddle River and Upper Saddle River on the east. It was established in 1908. Ramsey is named after Peter J. Ramsey, a 19th-century landowner who died circa 1854, who had sold the land that became the site of a railroad station called “Ramsey’s” in 1848.
