SCHOOL YEAR: 2017-2018

HALLOWEEN Halloween is celebrated on 31st October. Also it is sometimes called “All Hallows Eve”. The children dress up in fancy costume and then visit the houses in their neighborhood asking for a “trick or treat”. The neighbors give them sweets or money as a “treat”. If they don’t give them treats, the children play a trick on them, as for example they may throw soap or paper at their windows. Playing tricks on people may not be kind. However, there is almost always a treat waiting for the children that go from door to door. But if you don’t have a treat, the children will most likely play a trick on you. That’s what Halloween is about! By Antonis & Konstantinos, B.

Halloween Halloween is celebrated on the night of October 31 and it is a Western Christian feast. The children wear costumes, go to parties, light bonfires, play apple bobbing and they go house to house and they say: trick or treat? The people give to them candies and no fruits. Τhe custom of pumpkins has got roots from an old Irish fairytale, with that stinging and crazy Jack. It has called the hell to drink a drink together. The root of the word comes from all-hallows-eve and it declares the eve that they celebrate all Saints Day. By Helen & Κalliopi

THANKSGIVING DAY Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada, the United States, some of the Caribbean islands, and in Liberia. Each year Americans in the United States celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.

It is celebrated as a day of giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of the preceding year. History Prayers of thanks and special thanksgiving ceremonies are common in almost all religions especially after harvests and at other times, too. The Thanksgiving holiday's history in North America has its roots in English traditions dating from the Protestant Reformation.

It is like a harvest festival, even though the harvest in New England takes place before the late-November date on which they celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

Foods The most popular foods of the thanks giving day are: -cranberry sauce, -Turkey -Mashed potatoes -rolls

A FEW MORE THINGS ABOUT THANKSGIVING………. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln set the last Thursday of November as a National Day of Thanksgiving for the United States. American immigrants brought these customs to Canada. Thanksgiving was first celebrated to give thanks for the harvest. Pilgrims first celebrated Thanksgiving after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621. The feast lasted three days and both Native Americans and Pilgrims attended it. Americans eat about 46 million turkeys on that day. By John, P.
