Sound visualization

The 3D model

The graphics change according to the frequency of the music. The higher the frequency, the faster the graph vibrates, and the greater the amplitude. Users can use the mouse and keyboard to change the playing state of music.

In 3D mode, I use the function of the subdivision sphere to make different polyhedra. Their size proportion is based on the sun, Mercury, Venus, and earth.

Their autobiography, revolution, and speed simulate the real situation. I also add light and shadow effects, using trigonometry to make twinkling stars. And mouse in different positions can control the color of the universe.

Series

Many particle blocks with physical properties fall from the top of the screen.

The key ‘A’ and ‘D’ on the keyboard are set to control the red block’s movement.

Users need to avoid particle obstacles and reach the top to win. Notice: hitting too many particles makes you fall off the screen due to their gravity.

This is a virtual reality story inspired by Chinese word puzzles and Tao Yuanming's article “Peach Blossom Land”. Users are guided back to the wonderland to enjoy the beautiful journey.

Inspiration For a long time, the learning cost of sign language has limited the communication between sign language users and other language users.

Therefore, similar to "foreign language translator", we use machine learning and gesture recognition technology to make a "sign language translator", which translates sign language into natural language and output it to users.

P.s. The language for development is Chinese, so English translation cannot be a one-to-one correspondence.

I find that many times in reality, people react in the same way socially.

People who have different social reactions (for example switch to "DON’T BOTHER" mode, get lost in their world) to others can cause embarrassment.

Solitude is a double-edged sword. We should learn to get along well with ourselves and others.

Don't let solitude become unpleasant or luxurious.

In fact, solitude is a necessity for most people. Statistics also show that people need to be alone, especially in the fast-paced life and pressure, people mostly need the respect and space of being alone.

Solitude is a behavior that involves love, friendship, family affection, and even everyday life. So, do people need solitude? And how do they look at it?

Design Goal

Nowadays, homosexuality, depressive disorder, and split personality have been gradually known but still cannot be tolerated by many. What’s worse, many groups haven’t even been exposed to the public. People with special behaviors or mental illnesses are always regarded as PERVERTS. So, they struggle to appear normal in crowds, speak anonymously online, seek treatment in secret and live in the shadows.

As average people, they are often unable to understand the situation of these groups, condescending misunderstanding, and discrimination against them.

Besides, people don’t have enough cognition and study about them.

I hope more and more people know about them, having the opportunity to experience the awkwardness and distress, showing tolerance and love. As people with different tendencies, they can feel relief and comfort, looking at things in a positive way. I hope more and more people live in the sun and will not despise others or themselves.

Literature Research I collected research literature and data related to special groups. They describe their living conditions, social care, and so on. The studies of non-western, female, and marginalized groups are rare. For example, in Asia, people tend to avoid talking about specific groups because of cultural habits.

After all my research, I concluded that idiosyncrasies are common and possible to all. But they don't know how to reconcile with the outside world and themselves. They may live in the dark and need help. We should be more understanding and kind towards them.

User Feedback The Lunatic Asylum: Imprison & treat identified players.

In this stage of testing, I found that the fixed game difficulty isn’t suitable for every player, so I change the six sides dice into four, six, and eight. Let the players decide the difficulty of the game by themselves at the beginning.

My id card is a fetish. I haven’t known it’s a mental illness before. I feel very excited about hiding my identity. But I’m pointed out at last!

I made an initial model out of paper, wrote the basics and numbers on it in order to test the flow of the game for reasonableness.

In this phase I found the following problems: 1/ It’s too random to rely on players completely to draw cards. So I design a map to write down some events.

2/ The complications of worsening symptoms weren’t reflected, so I design a mechanism to draw additional ID cards.

Interesting! I draw the split personality which is unfavorable in the game. Unexpectedly, because of top brilliance, I escaped identification. There is only a line between genius and madman!

I have so bad luck that I haven’t got to “cure” grid. I’m so close to suicide that I even wanna go to the mental hospital to get treatment!

Choice Phobia Disorder is a phenomenon. The young generation today is facing more problems than their parents did. When it comes to the moment making a choice, you don’t know what you really want and hesitate. I am a person with difficulty making choices too.

It's an approval-seeking interactive game that starts with the difficulty of making a choice. It records the behavior of people who are faced with choices, digging into the psychology behind it.

It is a topic focusing on decision making, others' approval, self-awareness, and courage. I found many people feel exhausted while making a choice. Many people even avoid making a choice. Except for those who are with great resolution and independence, when people are faced with choices, they tend to ask for suggestions or approvals.

To seek answers, people have even designed a book.

Approval-seeking is an adaptation to group living, but it also affects our lives and our judgments.

I found that even if people choose with their ideas, they also want to seek approvals. Even in many cases, they have no idea but to rely on others. It is the essence of Choice Phobia.

In trivial things, we are afraid to be dissatisfied with the results. And in significant decisions, we become worse, wanting to be loved and successful. In many dimensions, we use methods to verify ourselves, to convince ourselves, but do we need to do so?

What I've found is that people often go through the following process when making decisions about choices. This is the core concept of my project, which focuses on asking answers to get satisfaction.

The Book Of Answers is a kind of book popular among my peers. And I used to be attracted too.

All you need to do is meditating your question, then open the book to any page. It will provide you with a sincere response.

According to background research, I found people have difficulty choosing attributes to social influence and self-powerlessness. To get a deep understanding of people's mental processes, I did interviews which asked 10 users.

Economists call “opportunity costs”.

It subtracts from the satisfaction that we get out of what we choose, even if it was a good decision. The more options there are to consider, the more attractive features of these options, the more regretful you will be because of the loss.

Through the collection and analysis of the psychological research results of Choice Phobia Disorder, I have summarized several main reactions.

Actually, sometimes we seek answers and ask for others' opinions, not because we don't know what to choose, but because we want to seek approvals. I want to say that you don't need to prove it to anyone, just follow your heart. I hope when we face the choices, find the original happiness and just take it easy~

I asked some of my friends to try out my game, and here I picked 5 people and recorded their feedback.

The art style is cute.

The gameplay is boring, but it's kind of like real life.

While the mechanics are simple, observation and thought are still needed for the increasing difficulty.
