It would be impossible for me to tell you how much it means to me to say “Welcome back to the Hall Family Shows!” Because of many different circumstances, the last Hall Show in San Diego was in 2019.
So, here we all are, at the Bart Hall Show Thursday through Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and it feels great! This is the first Hall Family Show in San Diego County in four years, the first Hall Family Show in California in three years and the first fishing, boating and outdoor recreation event in Southern California in 2023.
There’s a lot folks who helped make this happen. It could not have been done with the support of friends and family. A special thank you goes to companies like Accurate Fishing, Okuma, Daiwa, Shimano, Avet, AFTCO, Izorline, Gamakatsu, The San Diego County Ford Dealers, Mammoth Lakes, Convict Lake Resort, Fisherman’s Landing, Hotel Rancho Leonero, Jeep/Ram, Convict Lake Resort and Johnson Hicks Marine. There’s more. Way more.
There’s our friends at Turner’s Outdoorsman, Bob Sands Fishing Tackle, Island Fishing Tackle, Jon Pettey, the entire Eastern Sierra Community, international hunting and fishing lodges from around the world, every major boat dealer in Southern California and hundreds of others. A special thank you also to our seminar speakers here over four days, for their time and expertise. Finally, you all as an attendee, the ultimate supporter of the shows. Without everyone coming together these past months, the return of the Hall Shows would not have been possible.
From the beginning, it’s about celebrating the sportsman’s life, the outdoors. And family. The Hall Shows are determined to provide a full day’s worth of family fun for every family that attends the Bart Hall Show by providing the Mammoth Lakes Kids Fish free Trout pond, the Ram Ultimate Air Dogs, the Convict Lake Resort/Jon Pettey Goldsmith, Great American Duck Races, Kids Casting Contests, air gun ranges, archery, the Mammoth Lakes Seminar Area, the Accurate Fishing Main Seminar Stage, the Okuma Bass Tank, the Daiwa Saltwater Stage, the Hobie Kayak Fishing Stage and much, more.
It’s time to make more wonderful lifetime memories at the Bart Hall Shows. Thank you for coming, and please support CCA-CAL here. Their work is important in keeping our coastal fisheries accessible and healthy. I hope we also see you in Long Beach March 29-April 2 at the Sports Arena and Convention Center.

For the first time since 2020 the Hall Family shows return in 2023. It started last month with the Bart Hall Pomona Boat Show, and here we are at Del Mar, for the 45th running of the Hall Show for sportsman in San Diego. Three years of waiting after the state shut all events down. Then comes and the Bart Hall Long Beach show, the 75th running of the biggest sportsman’s show in the world.
“The Pomona show started it off for us, and I can only say we are delighted with the response from the boating community in supporting the Pomona show, which is the first SoCal boat show in year,” said Bart Hall, show producer and owner of all three Hall shows. Now here we are, welcoming everyone to the Del Mar Fairgrounds to the first sportsman show in San Diego in four years. Four years. That’s crazy. And it has been a crazy time, for all of us.” Bart hopes his ambition and work over the past seven months will rekindle millions of family boating, and fishing memories.
“Join us as tens of thousands of fishing families gather to celebrate three quarters of a century of family fun at the Hall Shows at Del Mar and Long Beach,” said Hall. “There’s nothing like a Hall show.
It’s the sheer size and crowds that make them special.”
For the first time in decades, the 44th Del Mar show is first on the schedule for all sportsman’s shows in SoCal. That means high excitement. Big crowds. First dibs on tackle sales, bookings for travel, the debuts of rods and reels and lures. And Bart promises to pull out all the stops to bring sportsmen and their families to the convention at Del Mar.
“We anticipate huge crowds for a variety of reasons. This is the best bargain around for sheer entertainment. We’ll have several retail tackle areas, we’ll have every make an model of boat and high flying air dogs, the Great American Duck Races, the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Shows, the Kids Fish Free Trout Pond, laser shot, Izorline’s Knot Tying Contest for all ages. Plus there’s free admission for kids under 16, and dozens of seminars on topics from peacock bass fishing in Brazil to Panama’s bucket list lodges to Baja’s newest and still remote outposts.
Indeed, the shows are a true mix of every aspect of sporting and outdoor life. Skiing, paddleboading, kayaking, hunting and great information from the biggest
experts and luminaries in the business. Let’s get back the travel! Vendors will be promoting fishing trips everywhere from the Eastern Sierra, Baja, Alaska, local bluefin runs, to flyfishing around the world. And there’s even African safaris being offered, and so much more.
Seminars? There will be kayak fishing seminars, freshwater bass fishing seminars, tips on Sierra trout tactics, surf fishing seminars, the latest in bluefin tackle tactics.
There’s way more in store for attendees, said Hall. Clothing, custom jewelry by Jon Pettey Goldsmith, hunting clubs. Baja hotels and lodges. Clothing by Fishworks, Ahcor, AFTCO and a West Coast newcomer, Mojo Sportswear. Great food, and cold beer.
“It’s hard to define the show,” he said. “Sit down and learn to cook fish and
TACKLE COMPANIES debut their 2023 introductions. Shimano alone has 900 square feet of pure tackle bliss. Daiwa, Okuma, Avet, and Accurate are here in force, a parade of the finest tackle in the world.
The Hall 600,000 square foot sportsman’s shows are back, starting with the Bart Hall Pomona Boat Show held at the Fairplex, and now comes the Hall Family sportsman’s shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds over four days and then the granddaddy of them all, March 29-April 2 at the Long Beach Convention Center and Sports Arenagame,” said Hall. “Talk to the leaders of the California Fish and Wildlife. Buy your annual license at the show. It will be good for 365 days from date of purchase for the first time. It’s crazy how the boating industry has jumped into these shows. See more boats in one place then anywhere else in Southern California.
Hall continued: “We’ll have every marine electronics manufacturer showing and selling at the Johnson-Hicks area, at Long Beach they will have more than 30 booths of the latest electronics and seminars each day. Find that perfect RV. Enjoy the shooting sports and see the truck or SUV and off-road vehicle of your dreams. These shows are a total day of affordable family fun. Join us as we celebrate 75 years of outdoor recreation bliss.”
And there is always a helping hand via vendor discounts or free booth space to conservation and nonprofits. Among them: the Coastal Coalition Association, the Dan Hernandez Foundation for inner city fishing programs and several others
that introduce kids to outdoor adventure. Dana Wharf has a multitude of programs for kids and families. You have to stop by their booth and talk to Donna Kalez and her brother Mike Hansen and their captains. The Hansen family with the late Capt. Don Hansen, wrote the book on whale watching. Actually, they started it.
If there is one group Bart Hall is especially drawn to, it is the Coastal Conservation Association of California (CCA CAL). “CCA is proud to again be at all three of the Bart Hall Shows in 2023,” said its director Wayne Kotow. “For Del Mar and Long Beach we will have our very popular membership / show entry / goody bag promotion at the entrances. At all of the shows, drop by our inside booth and spin the CCA raffle wheel to win some great prizes.” Thank you CCA.
Kowtow said another event in Long Beach to look out for is the always sold-out PreShow seminar with surf fishing guru Bill Varney with SurftheFish.com. Attend, and get in free that day.
“CCA CAL will have a special raffle at that event,” said Kowtow. “Also bring your questions to the Mammoth Lakes seminar stage on Saturday in Long Beach for the panel discussion with CDFW staff and wardens. CCA CAL will emcee this very informative event. Stay tuned as more things are developed to enhance your show experience. We all look forward to seeing everyone at the shows!”
Go to hallshows.com for details on show, hours, and options for purchasing online tickets through Tixar with details at hallshows.com. Bart Hall is back, in a very big way!
And you are invited to bring the family TO OUR SPECIAL WORLD.
THE VENDORS like Ken’s Custom Reels of Oceanside are eager to see their friends and customers at Del Mar, selling tackle, clothes, gear, art, and taking in reels for hot rodding or repair. Hotel Rancho Leonero is back, a 40-year exhibitor at the shows, and the staff and customers fired up about the next season at the East Cape of Baja. Travel is big at the shows, from Baja, to BC, Alaska, the Amazon, Panama, Africa (hunting and fishing) and more bucket list spots.
for fishing. The couple married in 1944. His first foray into the sportsman’s show world was at Gilmore Field in 1946.
five years before his father called and said, “I need you.” While two different partners have entered the picture & departed, Bart has remained the producer of the shows.
The Hall family will be celebrating 75 years of show production in California with three new shows in 2023. It started in Pomona with the first boat show in SoCal in three years, followed by the Del Mar sportsman’s at the Fairgrounds Feb. 16-19 and the Bart Hall Show in Los Angeles at the Long Beach Convention Center March 29-April 2.
A legacy indeed. And a marker for the history of sportfishing as it has evolved. The Hall Family shows began in 1946 when patriarch Fred Hall produced California’s first “Sportsman’s Show” at the old Gilmore Stadium. Let’s go back a bit. In the late 1930s, Fred Hall attended Occidental College, where he lettered in football, basketball, water polo and diving, ranking second behind his teammate, U.S. Olympic champion Sammy Lee. After college, Hall was instrumental in forming Crowd Management Co., which furnished ushers for baseball games and midget car racing at Gilmore Field, now the site of CBS Television City in Los Angeles. He met his future wife, Lois, while she was skating with Shipstad and Johnson’s Ice Follies at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles and found they shared a mutual passion
“That is now the location of CBS studios and near the famous L.A. Farmers Market,” said Bart Hall, Fred’s son, who has been producing the shows for the past 20 years with his father who passed away in 2000 at a hospital in Ventura from complications from a heart bypass surgery. “Gilmore Stadium was an outdoor oval dirt race track used for what they used to call midget cars. My dad decided he didn’t like the look of the large light poles used for night racing and he didn’t like the dirt track. So he had pine boughs cut down and secured to the light poles so they looked like trees. He then dyed sawdust green and spread it over the dirt track. It all looked great until the third day when it rained and the dye leached out of the sawdust and got into everyone’s shoes and socks. It was a source of good humor to this day.” Two years later the show moved to the nearby Pan Pacific Auditorium, and remained there for about a dozen years, and then moved to the Great Western Exhibit Center for another 20 years. After one year at the L.A. Sports Arena the show moved to the new Sports Arena and Long Beach Convention Center where it remained until March 2020.
Bart was a progression jazz musician, and in his 30s Bart told his dad he wanted to work for him, he was done with the traveling. His father couldn’t afford to hire him full-time, so he got him a job as a manufacturers rep, and Bart repped for
“The Long Beach show was the last major public event in California before the state shut down public events because of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Hall. “It was the biggest sportsman’s show in the world. Massive crowds, but then we always had those. We fist-bumped through five amazing days. Then it was gone by state mandate. We couldn’t put on Del Mar. It was horrible for everyone. ”
Well, the Hall Family Shows are back at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and the Bart Hall Show March 29- April 2 at the Long Beach Convention Center. “And while the name has slightly changed, the Hall Family Shows will be essentially the same,” said Bart. “My mother and father had a very specific vision of outdoor recreation shows that they passed on to me and my wife Ginny. We are determined to not just have more fishing tackle, boats, hunting and fishing lodges and just more cool stuff at our
than anybody else, but to provide a full day’s worth of family entertainment.”
The Bart Hall Show will strive to provide a full day’s worth of fun for the entire family. "When patrons come to the Bart Hall Shows they can enjoy hundreds of seminars from the world’s foremost experts,” said Bart Hall. “Everything from fly fishing the back country for exotic trout, to fishing in Alaska and Canada for salmon, giant halibut and huge lingcod,
showsto long-range fishing trips with San Diego’s unique fishing fleet to freshwater bass fishing, saltwater bass fishing, yellowtail, rockfishing, surf fishing {around the world} and, of course, bluefin tuna.”
But the Halls and their staff have always felt like moms and kids are the future of fishing. That is why all kids under the age of 16 get into Hall Shows free. “We want to entertain the entire family with more than just aisles of booths, boats and travel and retail. It’s more than just that. There’s the Mammoth Lakes Kids Fish Free Trout Pond, the Jeep/Ram Ultimate Air Dogs, the Convict Lake Resort and Jon Pettey Custom Goldsmith (the “angler’s jeweler”} presenting the Great American Duck Races, the San Diego County Ford Dealers Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. There will be Kids Casting Contests from Fishing in the City, archery ranges, air gun ranges, Costa Sunglasses fish and game cooking demonstrations, kids “fishy” touch tanks,
face painting and the most fun thing of all for kids, running all over the largest collection of boats in Southern California.”
Bart Hall said the commitment to kids and families has, through the free trout ponds and sponsored by Mammoth Lakes for the last decade, has had over 1 ½ million kids fish in the pond. “Those kids grew up, got married had kids and grandkids of their own, and the number of future anglers created by the Hall Family shows is incalculable,” he said. “My father died on the Saturday of the Long Beach Show 23 years ago. I called the Let’s Talk Hook Up radio show to announce his death to anglers everywhere. I had to get back to the show. They tried to put us in a special bereavement room. I couldn’t stand it. I went out to walk my father’s show. Literally hundreds of people came up to me with the same message. They all basically said, ‘I caught my first fish at your dad’s show, my children caught their first fish at this show and today my grandchildren are going to try to catch their first fish at this show.’ It was overwhelming to me and is to this day. I made a promise that day to myself to always make sure that families have the opportunity to create great memories at our events.”
Hall will be back at the show, reveling in the sheer size of them. Both 600,000 square feet. He is deeply committed to conservation. The shows were instrumental in the late ‘80s in getting the Prop 132 Gillnet Initiative on the ballot with a signature drive boost. Another show actually turned down the supporters of the signature drive, The Hall family opened the show up to the effort. “Whatever they wanted, they got,” said Pat McDonell, then on the Gillnet Initiative committee with others in the industry, and editor of Western Outdoor News. “I said the H. Werner Buck show turned us down for the signature drive, afraid of demonstrations by the animal rights folks. Which was absurd. They just didn’t understand the whole issue. I went to Bart and Fred with the same pitch and they said, ‘The show is yours.’ That drive
to get funding and signatures would not have been possible without the Hall shows. Prop 132 passed by a landslide and we can see the positive effects of banning the gillnets, especially in the white seabass fishery. The MLPA battles were another chapter in the Hall shows. The formation of CCA-Cal chapter seven years ago, and Bart has been on that executive board for all 7 years. "That commitment to the industry and the fisheries and conservation is what got me to come back and help him bring back the Hall shows. They are important to the future of our traditions in fishing, and hunting in this state. ”
So, here we are, 23 years after Fred’s death during the 2000 Long Beach show, his son Bart battling to bring the shows back, and our industry pushing back against more efforts to curtail fishing areas off our coast. The fights never end. The latest threat is real, a plan by the governor to create protected areas in 30 percent of our coast by 2030, which could close off 80 percent of our state’s “fishable” local waters. While at the Hall Shows, stop by the multiple Coastal Conservation Association of California booths. Join, get in free, get a tote bag of gifts $100 valued. “CCA-CAL is speaking for all California anglers and demanding a seat at the table as California tries to implement “30 X 30” which will restrict your access to saltwater fishing, probably forever” said Bart. “This year at the shows there will be a special area designed by Ginny Hall chronicling the 75 years of Hall Family Show history. This area is sponsored by Turner’s Outdoorsman who has been an exhibitor at the Hall Shows for 50 years. The tradition of the Hall shows live on, with the support of many lovely people.”

These and others will be speaking on the Daiwa Saltwater Stage, the Accurate Saltwater Stage, the Okuma Bass Tank and the Mammoth Lakes Stage. Thank you seminar speakers and sponsors!
ngtime director of the California chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association, part of the organization that represents the interests of sport fishermen as they defend their right to access Kotow coordinates the many memberships and fundraising efforts of the various local chapters works with the Executive Board to stay in the mix of the many issues facing coastal anglers and will only be doing one seminar at Del Mar, on Saturday, on the new DFW rockfish regulations. Get the latest info at the Daiwa Saltwater Stage on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
She and her husband Royce Henry own and operate Henry’s Custom Trailers and repair centers in El Cajon and Lake Havasu City, AZ and will be speaking about trailers. Custom trailers, new trailers, repairing your aging trailer and moving up into a new custom trailer (there are three types they make) and improving your safety on the road. It’s not just your rig you are protecting on the road, it is often your family. There is a big difference in trailers and construction, and the loads they can carry. Not all new trailers you buy from a dealer (or used from someone) are suitable. They are called “Red Line.” Which is, they barely qualify for a new boat’s weight, but if you load it up with fuel, gear and more for the road trip, it’s dangerous. Henry’s is also bringing some off-road trailers, ready for the Baja or anywhere off-road. Meet Holly, she’s on the Accurate stage every day at 4:15p.m. Travel safe with Henry’s!

He’s the U.S. WON BASS champion and big bass hunter and guide, will be a seminar speaker every day at the Okuma Bass Tank. Brown was born and raised in Southern California, fishing for as long as he remembers. He has been a professional bass fisherman 25 years winning the 2013 U.S. WON BASS Open as well as numerous top 10 finishes in Pro and Team events, all over the United States. Iovino is without question the “The “Godfather” of Finessen Fishing and is an inductee into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. He is famous for his light-line bass fishing innovations and created the term “doodling” for the technique. His lifetime relationship with Lowrance electronics has led to him to being one of the very best at using electronics and doodling to catch more fish in heavily fished waters. In fact, he wrote the book on the finesse technique, “Finesse Bass Fishing, The Sonar Connection,” with George Kramer, himself a Freshwater Hall of Fame inductee.

Mansur is one of the top sportfishing captains on the coast with Boardroom charters based at Dana Point Harbor, specializing in bluefin, marlin, white seabass, and when he gets the call, exotic trips into Southern Baja to Mag Bay. Mansur has done it all and a super guy, friendly and wants to share his expertise on new rockfish depth regulations and techniques for success. He will be appearing only on the weekend in Del Mar, in three seminars, and while his listed subject is rockfish regs and how to fish under the new regulations, Mansur will cover a variety of subjects, including targeting bluefin with poppers, spreaders and kites, and will also touch on how and when to use braid and mono. As he says, there’s a rhyme and a reason on when to use braid and mono, and how much of it. His seminars will be extremely informative on the Daiwa Saltwater Stage on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. and on the Accurate stage Saturday at 12:15 p.m. and again on Sunday on the Accurate Stage at 12:15 p.m. Do not miss his seminars.
Mcdonald is a licensed California guide and owns Golden State Fishing lures which will be exhibiting at the Bart Hall shows in Long Beach and Del Mar and showing his minijigs, minnows and proven techniques used for big trout, and unveiling the new custom line of jigging rods, the Katana lineup. Ultralight fighting for trout in California is taking off, and not for small fish, he said. We’re talking quality rainbows and browns and brookies, especially in the Eastern Sierra, but he’s also getting trophies in all western states. Mcdonald started the company in 2019, combining the techniques he learned over the years with a range of tube baits and minnows and custom jig heads. His company sells quality T-shirts and Outerwear for fishermen through ahcoroffshore.com. He a winning tournament angler, and avid saltwater and freshwater flyfisherman. He fishes recreationally with friends but commercially as well. His seminars will be simple. Bluefin fishing from A to Z, from planning and gathering information, to getting your gear rigged and right and he’ll show you how and why he picks the rods and reels he does. He fishes the Nomads, the kite/helium balloon, skips Yummy’ Flyers and flyfishing baits and runs spreaders and has specific ways to deploy them, and you will learn these techniques, and when it is best to do so.
If you’ve used Hookup Baits and have caught fish on them, then thank Chad Gierlach because he invented them He didn’t invent tube baits, as they were around as minijigs for trout and crappie, but by using the theory of the drop and flutter jigging technique, he created a saltwater version of them that is deadly on the descent, and created techniques that have made the baits a sensation. He’s won more SoCal tournaments in recent years than any other angler, and he’s taken these baits all over the world They catch fish He loves to teach people how to effectively use them for any species, especially his coveted calico bass, but they entice yellows on the drop and even the troll, and tuna Take a bite out of his amazing seminars Thursday and Sunday in Del Mar, and every day in Long Beach He’s also on the Mammoth Lakes stage one day forfreshwater tips, too
He’s an “official shop grom” at Fastlane Sailing and Kayak Center, and a FastLane/Hobie Kayak Fishing Team member, as well as a Salty Crew Rocks ‘n Docks Tournament winner Sylvia is an experienced kayak isherman targeting saltwater bass, reshwater bass, and yellowtail See him at the Hobie seminarnarea

Consequently, four years later he won the largest organized fishing event in the world; the U.S. Open. As a professional he has qualified for the “Super Bowl” of angling, the Bassmaster Classic two times. He guides full time. No plan B and heloves it.

It’s a remote true Alaskan bucket list spot, featuring all five species of salmon, including big BIG kings
McDougall Lodge is exhibiting in all 3 Hall shows, and is ready to introduce you to one of the most epic vacations of your life. The real Alaskan experience. It’s remote, and everything you expect in an Alaskan fishing adventure. The mouth of Lake Creek is considered one of the top salmon fishing bites in Alaska, and McDougall Lodge sits approximately 1.5 miles from the mouth of Lake Creek. But they don’t stop fishing there. Jet sleds allow guides to fish the lower eight miles of Lake Creek, as well as various other clear-water tributaries of the Yentna River. You won’t be disappointed!
All five species of Pacific salmon run Lake Creek at different times of the year so you can book your trip around the fish you’re ready to land. King salmon when they re-enter the rivers and streams to spawn
typically after five years in the ocean they are big. Very big. Kings in the Talachulitna River are the biggest, measuring 60 inches and up to 70 pounds. Put THAT on your wall! Though salmon are plentiful only during the spawn, the big rainbow trout, grayling and northern pike can be caught year round. You can choose to fly fish, to spin or bait cast depending on the time of year and proven methods, and their guides will help you along the way.
The lodge is nestled on the banks of Lake Creek, where the scenery is staggering. And you don’t have to be a professional photographer to take stunning wildlife photos on one of their fly outs. They’re a photographer’s dream, and a sightseeing adventure you won’t get elsewhere. And you usually don’t have to try too hard to see wildlife in the Lake Creek area. The wildlife is abundant, many of the woods and valleys virtually untouched by man, which means you see the unspoiled habitat of many amazing creatures.
Search out the Alaskan wildlife from one of our boats or book a flight directly from the lodge Facebook.
Your cozy, backwoods experience at McDougall Lodge comes with the option of staying in a private room in the lodge or in one of five guest cabins. All accommodations are comfortable and feature new mattresses with warm linens to ensure you enjoy your stay. The cabins offer an additional feature, a breathtaking view of the Yentna River. After a long, satisfying day on the river, nothing is more refreshing than a hot, relaxing shower. Located near the guest cabins, in the bathhouse, are four large bathrooms, each equipped with a sink and shower. The lodge’s own power plant provides hot and cold running water, as well as electricity. Fresh towels, and other supplies, are replenished daily for your use.

Here’s comes Okuma, ready to roll into both Bart Hall shows with the latest in 2023 rods and reels and accessories. “We are so excited about these shows coming back, and thrilled that Okuma is going to be at both shows in a big way,” said Bart Hall. “Okuma is such a strong supporter of the conservation work of CCA, and all ties into what I feel about these shows, the passion and commitment to the sport."
Okuma has products in every rod and reel category, and every year expands its platform. Okuma strives to deliver the ultimate fishing experience to everyone, as well as create the best fishing reels and rods which are lightweight and precise. The Okuma goal on the Lighter Side is to deliver quality and affordable fishing rods such as fly rods, float rods, spinning rods; fishing reels including spinning, baitcast, trolling, and fly reels. They are all made with advanced materials with dynamic designs. The reels are known for their
precise machining and thus dependability under stress. Big game marlin and bluefin to rainbow trout. It’s the experience, and it starts with quality equipment.
Okuma has something for everyone. If you are going after big bluefin weekly, the Makaira lever drag reels are the bomb due to their durability, drag systems, and cranking power. Makaira Special Edition Reels have an open top frame design and open spool bearings with TSI-301 oil, increasing freespool by 2.5 times. All non-spool bearings have a full grease pack for maximum longevity. Other features include gunsmoke and black anodizing. A machined out frame increases clearance between the spool and cross bars. A ratcheting drag lever and drag cam allow precise drag settings. Heavy-duty, 17-4 grade stainless steel drive and spool shafts assure smooth reliability. A lug and plug system is included for use with or without harness lugs.

California aims to use the governor’s 30x30 executive order as a tool to shut down more coastal areas to fishing. That means no fishing for your kids, for your grandkids, for under-served communities, for generations to come.
Join with major sportfishing organizations and others in the fight to ensure that California takes in to account recreational fishing as it seeks to conserve 30 percent of coastal waters by 2030 in the 30x30 initiative. Because anglers are not the problem. We are committed to working toward a solution.

If there is a boat company that has been the mainstay of the bass fishermen world in Southern California it is Anglers Marine, and no real sportsman’s show for freshwater anglers would be complete without Angler’s Marine in Anaheim and now in San Diego County in Lakeside.CA. Owner of Angler's Marine and boat enthusiast, Rick Grover said, “The shows are returning and for anyone in the outdoor world, that’s just fantastic news. It’s the best show there is, by far. If you are looking for qualified buyers and experienced fishermen, there’s nothing better than this show.”
Anglers Marine is the place for bass fishermen, at all levels. Ranger boats, Nitro, Mako, Tracker, Tahoe, Mercury outboards, Bayliner, Sun Tracker, and Triton boats. Grover and his crew exhibited at the Bart Hall Pomona Boat Show in January, is here at the Del Mar Show at the Fairgrounds, and then will be at their usual spot at Bart Hall’s monster Long Beach Show at the Sports Arena and Convention Center.
“Rick Grover of Anglers Marine was the first to sign up for all three shows right after we announced we were returning,” said Bart Hall. “He said there was no
question about it. And he is exhibiting only with us at our three shows. Since then the boat industry has embraced the shows. Every SoCal boat dealer is in two of the shows or all three. We will have dozens of marine electronics retail booths with Johnson-Hicks in Long Beach, and a smaller but still significant 20X20 foot area in Del Mar to kick off the show season. Rick started it all, as the first dealer to jump aboard.”

Why head to a show to check out boat trailers? Henry's in El Cajon and Lake Havasu is very busy these days, and it's no surprise why. They will build you an incredible trailer, make repairs, and make updates so it is safer.
Pat McDonell, executive producer of the Bart Hall shows, is a recent customer. "This is time to get your new trailer ordered, not 3 months from now. Like me, you don't even know your trailer is dangerous. I was lucky, mine broke down at the ramp, and someone noticed the damage. Henry's worked out the details to take the boat and trailer to their facility in a few hours. Best money I ever spent on a boat. I have piece of mind every time I pull out of my driveway."
Why get a new trailer? Your galvanized trailer is probably not safe. It's old, the
original welds are weak, and your boat's weight is probably pushing the limits of your trailer that came with it. It will eventually break, bend, or the tires will consistently fail. Your bearings and breaks are not adequate to be driving distances, not with you and certainly not with your family in it. Prevention is the most important thing in all boating.
Henry's Trailer Repair & Mobile Service in El Cajon is family owned and operated by Holly & Royce Henry. Safety should be your No. 1 priority when you are on the road. That's where they come in. No one services, repairs, and builds custom trailers like Henry's. From the time you need them to help you on the road with a tow, to dealing with insurance, to finding the solution to your trailer needs. Holly, Royce, and their helpful staff are on the job! Get out on the water this year!
Since 1956 at the north end of the Owens Valley nestled between the Sierra Nevada and White Mountains has been the world famous Mac's Sporting Goods. The last of a long lineage of tackle and hunting supply shops that once lined the streets of Bishop we still strive to provide the same customer experience as the day we originally opened.
As a shop we provide the widest selection of Trout and Bass fishing gear in the Eastern Sierra. Our gunsmith, Dale Miller (the second owner under the original Mac Ford), is recognized as the best gunsmith in the region. Our staff ranges in age from 84 to 17 and it is mandatory that we specialize in one or two Eastern Sierra outdoor activities. My specialty is catching largemouth bass in the valley.
For the Bart Hall shows we are here to present you with the gear that we find is successful and have brought a plethora of fly fishing gear, trout and bass lures that are effective throughout the Eastern Sierra, and a wide range of discounted tackle to make it worth your time to visit our booth. And as always, our fishing and life advice are always free.
Seminars Will Be On:
-Year-round fishing seasons & recreation activities prospects in the Sierra.
-Hunting & Fishing in the Owns Valley. Everything from trout, to duck, to bass. -Eastern Sierra bass fishing basics.
Costa Sunglasses are again all-in for the Bart Hall shows in Del Mar and Long Beach, bringing their traveling and display “Costa Sprinter” to the show, with a full array of incredible eyewear, perfect for everyone who is “out there” and wants the best quality styles and more importantly, the best polarized lenses. “Costa has been the leader in quality polarized sunglasses for decades,” says Pat McDonell, “I have worn them for hunting and fishing and all my water activities for as long as I can remember. My eyes are important to me, I’ve only got two of ‘em, and they are worth protecting." Indeed, polarized lenses are essential for anyone who spends time outdoors - especially out on the water. But not all polarized sunglasses are created
equal. Your eyes are one of the most important tools in your toolbox, and the right pair of polarized sunglass lenses can make or break your days out on the water. It's important to have the best polarized lenses technology available to reduce eyestrain, squinting and to provide comfort by eliminating reflective glare. The harsh sunlight can reflect massive amounts of glare from the surface of the water back towards your eyes. Blocking glare not only helps protect your eyes when you're spending hours on the water, but it allows you to see through the surface of the water more clearly to gain a competitive edge when fishing. Costa Del Mar sells only polarized sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection.
One of our show favorites at the Hall shows is the huge presence of Ken’s Custom Reels in Oceanside which offers several booths tackle, lures, Fishworks clothing, the latest in rigging for big tuna, Redrum tube baits, hooks, used rods and reels ready to go (and turbocharged) -- plus reel repair on the spot by Ken Corwin and Wes Cogan and their gang of friends. The shop in Carlsbad in Oceanside Harbor is packed with new and used tackle, and the used reels are in amazing shape, and are turbocharged. New bearings, new drags and they cast a mile. And when you get the reels back from repair, you know it’s the best that reel can be.
KEN CORWIN, Wes Cogan, Jamie Lyon and others are in the Ken’s Custom Reels booth, with a variety of tackle, clothing and usually some pretty funny stories.
Dean Safe is excited to be back at the Bart Hall’s Show again for the 12th year!
“This year we will be at both the San Diego and Long Beach Shows,” said Dean Safe owner Bo Pederson. The company will be in a 30-foot space in the exhibit hall in Del Mar and a 40-foot spot in Long Beach.
“We will have big discounts on gun safes, handgun safes and home safes.”
Bart Hall Shows Executive Producer Pat McDonell said the show in Del Mar is where he bought his Dean Safe to
protect his family’s paperwork and store his guns. “I just walked by the booth, saw the many varieties and liked the price. It was delivered quickly. It’s all digital combination, solid, and has worked beautifully ever since I bought it 7 years ago, and it gives me peace of mind.” Pederson added, “We carry 35 different manufacturers so we have a safe for everyone. What else is nice is that we have 3 retail location in Southern California and a website to buy online. Deansafe.com. Can’t wait to see everyone at the shows!”
It’s not just fun and games out there. Be prepared. The ultimate in trauma / first aid kits, Just In Case Rescue for the outdoor enthusiast has you covered from paper cuts to major bleeding. “Our kits are perfect for outdoor, adventure and personal protection.,” says Troy Neally, owner, who will be exhibiting at both Del Mar and Long Beach. The kits he sells online and at the shows come in various sizes and packs from sling bags to backpacks, range from the mini elite kit for $60, to the Hard Case Med Kit for $225. “When every moment counts, our kits are made from high quality components, the same First Responders use and have everything you need and nothing you don't." As Neally says, the average person
can bleed out in 3 to 5 minutes. The average response time for EMS, from the time of a 911 call, is 7 minutes to arrival on scene.
“That median time increases to more than 14 minutes in rural settings, with nearly 1 of 10 encounters waiting almost a half hour for the arrival of EMS personnel,” he said. “On a fishing boat, or camping, or just in any situation you might yourself with friends or family, driving. It’[s one thing to have the latest boat, fishing and camping and hunting gear. It’s another thing to be unprepared for life threatening injuries.”

Combining with Islands Tackle, so check ‘em out, and purchase the products that won awards at the ICAST show
AFTCO expands its reach and continues its hold on quality products that won awards at the ICAST show. AFTCO joins Island Tackle in a retail area at the two Hall shows as several products debut in SoCal.
THE KILL BAG: When harvesting fish, it’s important to bring the temperature of your catch down as soon as possible to protect its valuable fillets. The AFTCO Harvest Bag solves these problems and more.
IKE JIME KITS: Electronically subdues games for a quick kill to preserve the meat, particularly in the case of bluefin tuna.
BOARDSHORTS FROM COCONUTS?
Found near some of the world’s best fishing waters, coconuts are commonly harvested
for food and used in cosmetic and medical products, said Gant. Once harvested, the coconuts are often discarded in landfills. The boardshorts are made with Cocotex fabric — an amazing performance polyester infused with activated charcoal from repurposed coconuts.
CROSSBREED FISHING LURE: The Blue Fever Crossbreed is designed for fishing on the fall and on the retrieve. It will get bites on the sink with its erratic and fluttering action from the weighted center section that allows the lure to stabilize going from a fast fall to a slow fall back to a fast fall all on the same drop.
AFTCO.com has details, but you can see (and buy!) these products and many more from AFTCO at the AFTCO/Islands Tackle retail and showcase area at the two shows!
“We are going to do the same as we always do, meet customers at the shows, introduce our different products, host our knot tying contest and have our coaches tent which teaches how to tie fishing and connection knots,” said National Sales Manager Wendy Tochihara. “I’m excited to be back exhibiting our products at shows, seeing old friends and meeting new anglers.”

“I look to develop destinations around the world,” says owner Steve Yatomi, an IGFA rep who won the IGFA 2018 conservation award. “My thought growing up was ‘Let's do our best to help the indigenous people as the first world has clearly taken advantage of them. Make the world a better place. So I study the area and visit an area and create a sustainable fishery while leaving the local community 100 percent ownership.” He says that off-thebeaten-path locations are his specialties. “Depending on the management system
will determine longevity of the operation,” said Yatomi. “In detail, I educate about fishing regs, education of catch and release-- how that same fish brings back many dollars versus a one-time meal. I educate them on taking pressure off the river with farming both produce and livestock creating more jobs. It’s often simple things like only opening two weeks a month to have optimal fishing for people traveling from around the world.”
They are not wholesalers. Adventure Travel Alliance represents lodges and developing destinations. “Television exposure through “The Hunt for Big Fish” with Larry Dahlberg on Versus network every week highlights our expertise,” said Yatomi. “Adventure Travel Alliance is about linking the viewer to the destination. Our goal is to set up an old fashioned “hold you by the hand every step of the way” network connecting anglers to the best fishing destinations in the world.”
Adventure Travel Alliance services are free to our clients. The outfitters and owners of the lodges set the price. “We pass that same price on to you,” he said. “Let us help you choose the fishing or hunting trip that is best for you. We have flown the airlines you will fly on, slept in the rooms you will sleep in, and eaten the food you will feast on. Because we are anglers and hunters
too, we know what you need and want on that special trip. Each location offered has been visited multiple times by the ATA team. After our standards are met, locations are offered to you, our adventure angler/ hunter customer.”
Rich in experience, the Adventure Travel Alliance team had identified some needs in the fishing/adventure travel field that one might not find elsewhere. “Such high demand combined with limited access can only serve to escalate prices,” said Yatomi. “We promote newly developed places and the ‘great old spots’ that haven’t been hammered by excessive pressure or over harvest. Many out-ofthe-way treasures offer exceptional value and adventure in near virgin water or new hunting areas.” Adventure Travel Alliance is dedicated to service and making your fishing or hunting expedition the trip of a lifetime. Be sure to catch founder and charter captain: Ralph Rocha on the Accurate Saltwater Seminar stage!
Ahcor Offshore Clothing Co. will be at the Long Beach and Del Mar shows in a huge booth and its founder, Capt. Ralph Rocha will be a seminar speaker on the Accurate Reels Saltwater Seminar stage all five days. He is someone to watch, as his knowledge and enthusiasm for fishing draws you in. For 15 years he was a union electrician with IBEW. A good life and job, beautiful wife and kids.
As a fisherman he worked his way up from one day fishing trips to a long-range fisherman doing 15-day trips annually aboard the Independence Sportfishing vessel. He began to flirt with a dream he had to start his own clothing company around fishing. After it became apparent this idea was not going to go away, he made a bold promise to himself. “I am not going fishing again until the day comes that I can afford to pay for a trip from making money from my own business,” he says.
“Ahcor Offshore was born May 5 in 2015 sitting in L.A. traffic one the 105 freeway coming home from work,” he said. (Ahcor is his name backwards: Ralph Rocha). “It will be the Patagonia of the fishing
industry. Everything I do is the fuel for it.” He added, “Currently I’m going on my fifth year of being a businessman, graduating this year from the school of hard knocks and big fish! I feel like I'm just getting started and the best is yet to come. My confidence in doing so comes from believing with God all things are possible.”
His company sells quality T-shirts and Outerwear for fishermen. Printed with new patent technology ink that will not fade, crack or diminish.
“You know how most t-shirts magnify sun heat and burn your back?” asked Rocha.
“Our tees stay cool in direct sun with breathable fabrics. When the smoke clears it will be competing with all the top clothing companies in the world, with specialty products that our needed from head to toe for offshore fisherman. Also, all the accessories and ingenuity offshore boaters/captains are missing!”
He stated what keeps him going is this “I want to fish whenever I want and not whenever I can! Go to ahcoroffshore.com for the full range of men’s and women’s
tees, hats and outerwear clothing offered, and check out the sales.
Be sure to get to the shows for some great deals, meet Ralph at his “offshore” info seminars and be sure to see his YouTube Channel (AHCOR OFFSHORE) where he goes after giant bluefin and swordfish and yellowtail off our coast. They are fun to watch, and he posts live, so be sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel.

Do NOT miss his seminars on the Okuma Bass Tank every day during Del Mar and Long Beach!
Rich has been a professional angler, fishing guide, public speaker and promoter his entire adult life. His fishing career started in the early ‘70s. In his rookie season as a professional angler he won the “Western Bass Angler of the Year,” nudging out “Hall of Famer” Dee Thomas for the title, and is still the youngest fisherman in history to ever win that title. Consequently, four years later he won the largest organized fishing event in the world; the U.S. Open. To this day he is still the youngest U.S. Open Champion ever. In 1986 he became a full time tour angler with the “Bassmasters” on ESPN. He started his fishing guide service in 1977, and today has guides available 7 days a week. While on a guide fishing trip, the guide does not fish. After all, there is nothing worse than hiring a guide who is the first to cast at all the best targets.
The day is yours, Rich wants to make this the best fishing experience of your life. Call or email him after visiting his website at Richtauberfishing.com and DO NOT miss his seminars.

Sitka Fish is joining us at both Bart Hall shows, and as Executive Producer Pat McDonell says, make sure you get the full Alaska experience when you head to Sitka. “Sitka Fish’s Jamie Steinson is a fantastic guide who offers a great experience,” says McDonell who has fished with Steinson several times over the years. “He provides everything. Boat, gear, waders, boots, so you just enjoy. And you do not have to be an expert flyfisherman. Trust me on that one. But the battles on the fly gear are thrilling.”
Everything is included with Steinson, and it’s a great way to fish the bays, some rivers, and frankly, anyone can learn to do it. Each trip can be catered to your request. From a half-day session on a local lake, to a fly-in experience to a day going after wild steelhead, Jamie makes it a safe, easy, relaxed experience, providing top of the line waders, flies, rods and reels.
“While I always fish the boat at Kingfisher Lodge and enjoy the three days on the boats at Kingfisher and see Sitka Sound and its islands, the marina, the coast on the way out and the way back, in general you won’t see
the bays, and possibly bears, and at times gray whales voraciously feeding in the bays. It’s a top-notch experience.”
Steinson provides the highest quality flyfishing gear and instruction, and he a great teacher. He will pick you up at the airport, get you settled into your hotel, or go straight to his impeccable aluminum sporfisher, and head for the fishing grounds. “Because we have chosen not to operate with a high volume client, we offer individual priority," says Steinson, "I look forward to working with the most seasoned fly fishermen and women, to the beginner. We are devoted to our commitment of providing you with the best possible Alaskan fly fishing experience and preserving wild Alaskan salmon and trout stocks for future generations by practicing catch and release, because to us, it’s a lifestyle.”

One of the most popular booths in the shows is Tailhunter Sportfishing which owners Jill and Jonathan Roldan turn into a relative party for all the folks who have fished with them in La Paz over the years. In addition to running a successful panga charter business out of Muertos Bay and La Paz Bay close to town, they also operate a successful three-story Tailhunter restaurant and bar they built on the malecon overlooking La Paz Bay.
They serve up some amazing food, a view of the bay and almost always Jill and Jonathan are on site with their staff to make sure the fun doesn’t just end on the water. The operation is homegrown and full-service from booking the boats, to the hotels, to handling the fish for the ride home. They work with the best resort Lodging and hotel properties in La Paz. Your job is just to enjoy the city of La Paz and its incredible fishery in the bay on the outside. This year the summer came late after a long but epic big-fish yellowtail season and now the dorado are huge.
If you love Baja and love Baja adventure of all kinds, this is your spot. If you want to spend a few days whale watching (or swimming with them) on the Sea of Cortez or on the Pacific out of Mag Bay, or take in some Mag Bay inshore or offshore fishing, they arrange all that too. Rusty Brown, U.S. WON BASS champion and big bass hunter and guide, will be a seminar speaker every day at the Okuma Bass Tank. He will be joined by other bass luminaries as Don Iovino and Rich Tauber.
Rusty Brown was born and raised in Southern California, fishing for as long as he remembers. He has been a professional bass fisherman 25 years winning the 2013 U.S. WON BASS Open as well as numerous top 10 finishes in Pro and Team events, all over the United States. He has earned a reputation as a big fish hunter, with over 75 bass caught between 10 and 14 pounds, as well as two in the 15-pound range.
You can find Rusty at a variety of speaking engagements throughout the year, sharing his expertise in several bass fishing techniques. RUSTY GIVES SEMINARS during the California Bart Hall Shows at the Okuma Bass Tank, in addition to many other additional speaking engagements on behalf of Rapala, 13 Fishing, and other sponsors like Turner’s Outdoorsman and Angler’s Marine.
Since 1998 they have been exhibiting at the Hall shows, and providing computer enhanced sea surface temperature (SST) and Chlorophyll charts for anglers and divers and now cover the entire Continental U.S. coastline, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Pacific coast of Central America, Venezuela and Brazil. “We prepare our enhanced charts using only 1km high resolution data from the NOAA Polar Orbiting satellites." says Jeff Gammons of Terrafin, "We process that data using state of the art Satellite Imaging software." We select the best shots for each region, then review and manually correct for navigation and atmospheric problems in the data. It's time-consuming, but a must for creating quality charts.” He says they then produce enlarged images of specific local areas, using the best temperature range for that area to help emphasize the temperature breaks. “We overlay a lat/lon grid for the region, finally adding local reference points and bottom contours to the chart. The final result is an easy to use, detailed chart that will prove to be an invaluable on the water tool."
The Terrafin Mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices, and is included with your subscription. Use the app to download the latest charts while you have cell service, then you can pull up the images when you are offshore. Mark waypoints, get distance and bearing, even show your vessel position on the chart. For more information: sstview@terrafin.com • (760) 941-4931.
The Hall Show crew and their families crave the East Cape’s Hotel Rancho Leonero, once again a key sponsor for the Bart Hall shows coming to both Del Mar and Long Beach shows in 2023.
“Why are we so passionate about The Ranch?” asked show producer and Bart Hall Shows owner Bart Hall. “The reason is plain and simple because The Ranch is plain and simple. I mean that in the very best sense because John Ireland’s oasis in Baja is magnificent. It blends into the East Cape mountains, hills and the beaches. And we blend in too, getting that feel of true Baja with all the conveniences, and a friendly staff.” The Ranch is isolated. There are no garish malls nearby. There are no overpriced restaurants serving bad food and horribly expensive tequila. There is no one badgering you about a timeshare presentation in exchange for golf. The Ranch is not loud, it is comfortable. The Ranch occupies 600 acres and it feels intimate. “We have always, like local Mexicans, used triggerfish for fresh ceviche, but this time we caught so many that we asked the cooks to prepare them in another way, besides the 10 pounds of ceviche they were making. They did. They sautéed them in butter and garlic and grilled them over a mesquite grill. It’s hard to decide which was better but I lean slightly toward the butter and garlic. So delicious.” “We spend our days catching fish and our nights telling stories about the fish we caught as we share a great meal with our friends and family,” said Bart. “It’s why we crave Rancho Leonero. And we always will.

Since 1992 Orchid Martinez has been in the travel business, and for the last several years with her Baja Fishing and Hunting Convoys she has been offering her customers the opportunity to travel, fish, and hunt Baja locales without the hassle of travel arrangements to remote areas. You want the joy of fishing and pheasant and mule deer hunting, not the issues of booking, travel, permits, car or boat insurance. In the hunting realm, she handles all of them, at all-inclusive prices.
“I’ve hosted trips with her organizing, and she
is a pro, attending to every detail, and there are a lot of them when you go into Baja on your own,” said Pat McDonell, former editor of Western Outdoor News for 34 years. “She takes the hassle out the trips, and you have the fun with your friends. I can’t recommend her enough.”
These areas for upland game, fishing and include Mexicali for November/December pheasant hunting, and for fishing such great spots as Loreto, Bay of Los Angeles (BOLA), Erendira, Ensenada, Cedros Island, La Bocana, Gonzaga Bay, La Paz, Mag
Bay, San Quintin Bay and more. Orchid Martinez will be exhibiting at both shows, and it's a great opportunity to meet her and book a fantastic trip.
A Bart Hall show is more than just fishing tackle, it’s more than travel and lodges, and it’s more than seminars or RVs or free kids fishing ponds. It’s all those things and more. It’s a complete show. It’s about hunting lodges, the NRA, angler’s rights, conservation, radio and TV shows and all aspects of boating.
Let’s talk about BOATS. Bottom line, all three shows are loaded with boats and accessories. The Pomona Fairplex show last month was a successful 3-day run for dealers and buyers and vendors. Now comes the two sports shows in Del Mar and Long Beach. With perhaps even more boating at the venues.
“There has not been a boat show in three years in SoCal. People are starved for them,” said Bart Hall, show producer. “All that boating fever, all those beautiful boats in one place. It just hasn’t happened since the shutdown. Pomona was heavily a highperformance and family recreational boat show with fishing boats well represented, but Del Mar is emphasizing the sportfishing side of it with a lot of the recreational ski and boats and kayaks. We had a strong Pomona
show in every way. Del Mar and Long Beach will see eager buyers and crowds as the first sports show of the year.”
Attending as of this writing 20 days before the show, Del Mar are Shelter Island Inflatables, Hobie (Fast Lane Kayak and Sailing Center), Germaine Marine, Last Chance Marine, Sun Country Marine Group, Temecula Motorsports, Anglers Marine, Germaine Marine, Fast Lane kayaks, Island Marine, POP Paddleboards, West Coast Marine, Sea Tow, H&H, M20, Cali Marine, Johnson Marine, Pacific Freedom, West Coast Marine, Tommy Boats and Henry’s Trailers of Lake Havasu and El Cajon, and Freedom Boat Club. In addition to many vendors with boating accessories, like Johnson-Hicks Marine electronics, ACDC, Boat Medic, Bluewater Bait systems, Aquatraction and many more.
“I think we have hit a home run in holding a Pomona boat show, the first in a long time here in Southern California for the boating industry,” said Hall, show producer and sole owner of the three shows. “It’s a new world out there for everyone, and the
dealers and boat companies are excited about signing up for the three shows.”
Pat McDonell is an avid boater and fisherman, and Executive Producer of the Bart Hall Shows, and is former editor of Western Outdoor News for 34 years and retired director of the Cabo Tuna Jackpot.
Shimano American needs no introduction to the landscape of a sportsman’s show, with its vast array of high performance tackle and accessories. Its reputation is built on quality design, manufacturing and performance. If you own a Shimano, you know what we are talking about. Shimano will be exhibiting in huge 900 square foot areas at both Bart Hall shows in Del Mar and in Long Beach.
“We are very excited about Shimano having its full array of products on display here at the show,” said Bart Hall, Producer. “The Del Mar and Long Beach shows are the only show they are attending as an exhibitor and we appreciate it, and I know our attendees will relish the chance to meet the Shimano staff and reps and immerse in all things Shimano.”
Let’s focus on some of the 2023 offerings
you’ll see at the Hall shows. It’s a tall task to redesign industry benchmarks for versatility and performance, but their team did this by crafting three superior reels that help both freshwater and saltwater anglers catch trophy-caliber fish. Shimano unveils the new all-new SLX A and Calcutta Conquest MD while expanding the lineup of SpeedMaster II reels.
--The all-new Calcutta Conquest MD 300 & 400 lineup of reels are technology-packed for large swimbait anglers looking for power and dependability when targeting world-record fish.
--The all-new SLX A series now features Shimano’s premium SilentTune technology to improve rotation and enhance overall reeling performance, especially for tournament anglers and weekend warriors alike.
--The SpeedMaster II series of reels expands by adding 8 and 10 sizes to the lineup — ideal for bottom fishing or nearshore applications when anglers demand battle-tested performance.
Exhibiting at both Bart Hall Shows, among the many new products for 2023 are three reels: the SLX A and Calcutta Conquest MD, while Shimano is expanding the lineup of SpeedMaster II reels.

Jon Pettey Goldsmith has his shop in Orange, CA is a fisherman, hunter, and artist. His job is to bring your passion for whatever it is in life to what you wear in jewelry. A statement. A comfort in many cases. Pettey has designed and manufactured custom jewelry since 1978. He started designing jewelry as a hobby in 1974 and his hobby quickly turned into a passion, as he spent 7 years with Clemente, a Master Goldsmith in Burbank. Jon then went to work with Rock Martin in Laguna Beach, where over a period of 5 years, he refined his skills and started designing fishing oriented sport jewelry.
The portfolio of past work is on his website and he will have a full array of pieces of all types at the Hall shows in Del Mar and Long Beach to buy, or to inspire you to create your own jewelry with Jon. “My wedding band was designed by Jon, with yellowfin tuna, and I get compliments all the time by strangers, because his work is unique,” said show producer Bart Hall.
“Many of our pieces include engagement rings and anniversary bands,” said Pettey, “and some are heirloom jewelry from loved ones that needs a modern touch. We have also worked with nontraditional materials such as collectibles: sea glass, artifacts, arrowhead, coins and fossilized shells.” In one case, a customer came in with some silver jewelry and silver coins from his late mother and asked Jon to melt them down and create unique pieces for every member of his family, one by one. “The customer said there were serious tears when family members opened the box on their birthday and saw the pendants or bracelets or crosses, and their mother’s initials were on them,” said Pettey. “It’s what makes creating them special.”
