Shabbat is a time for reflection, gratitude, and enrichment. All are welcome on Saturday mornings as we blend ancient traditions and modern interpretations. This
pinch-hitting for Rabbi Ilana Schachter.
New Ways to Experience Shabbat at Temple Sinai
There is a conversation recounted in the Talmud between the Roman Emperor and Rabbi Yehoshua Ben Chananya. The Emperor asks why the food served on Shabbat is so fragrant, to which the rabbi responds, The Jewish people have a special spice, Shevet (translated as dill but spelled with the same letters as the word Shabbat), and it is very fragrant. When the emperor asks for some of this spice for his own food, the rabbi explains that it is only effective when used to make Shabbat dishes.
This exchange beautifully illustrates how, for thousands of years, Shabbat has been the magic spice for the Jewish people. It enhances not only the meal, but our lives as well.
Beginning this January, Temple Sinai invites you to explore new dimensions of the Shabbat experience with expanded Shabbat offerings. Each month, in addition to our virtual minyan service and our Sanctuary Shabbat services, we will also provide opportunities for yoga, meditation, hikes and walks, and engaging, dynamic Torah study that ignites your intellect and sparks meaningful discussions.
We believe that by opening yourself up to these new experiences, you may discover that magical spice of Shabbat in unique and profound ways.
Our calendar of upcoming Shabbat offerings is on the next page. We encourage you to mark your calendars and join us! I look forward to taking this jour ney with you.

SINAI CINEMA
HELLO GIRLS THE
a documentary directed by James Theres
Sunday, January 5 • 2:00pm at Temple Sinai
In 1918, the U.S. Army Signal Corps sent 223 women to France as telephone operators to help win the Great War. They were intrepid, united in a common cause, and like Joan of Arc before them, they wanted to save France. Told through 100-year-old letters, photos, rare archival footage, and interviews with family and historians, this documentary brings to life a story that was almost entirely unknown.
