There are different opinions on the origin of Baptist Church There are mainly four main opinions on how Baptist originated; as per the first opinion the Baptist grew within the English Separatist movement. During 16th to 18th centuries, Protestant Christians detached from the Church of England. A 1609 church in Amsterdam is considered an earliest Baptist church. As per the second opinion, the Baptists originated from English separatism and are hugely influenced out of Dutch Mennonites or Anabaptists. And the third and fourth opinion says that Baptist churches existed in some form since the Christ and during the time of John the Baptist. 2. Baptist churches are divided into four different sub-dominations In the USA, Southern Baptist Convention is the largest group. In 2015, the group HAD 15 million members. Southern Baptist gets separated from Northern Baptist over the issues of slavery. Baptist World Alliance includes 200 Baptist organizations. However Southern Baptist Convention has left the alliance in 2004 over issues of women in the clergy and homosexuality.
