Temple Emanuel Schools Jewish Education for All Ages

Education is one of the pillars of our congregation. We offer outstanding, diverse programs that reflect our true commitment to lifelong learning at Temple Emanuel.

Early Childhood Center Starting at two years and two months

Our Temple Emanuel Early Childhood Center provides children with a nurturing Jewish environment designed to stimulate curiosity, learning, and imagination. We offer a broad range of activities carefully designed for preschoolers and work closely with parents to maximize the unique potential of each child. NAEYC Accredited Our Early Childhood Center program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Only 8 percent of early childhood center programs nationally are NAEYC accredited. 2016-2017 Registration Our registration for the school year 2016-2017 will begin in February. We are currently making appointments for families to tour our center. For more information, contact: Stacy@tebh.org or 310.276.9776.

Religious School

Pre-Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade Temple Emanuel Religious School is focused on building a confident Jewish community around its students. We believe that participating in Judaism is preferable to simply learning about Judaism. Our approach to Jewish education centers on an experiential and project-based environment where all students are actively engaged in “Living Judaism.” For more information, contact: Registrar@tebh.org or 310.409.2950.

Tikkun Olam in Our Community Contemporary Issues Forums: Reflection & Partnerships

Celebrating Community: Recognition & Support Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills was recently recognized, along with Imagine LA, as one of the Community Honorees at the Westside Coalition’s Celebrating Success Breakfast. The honor, specific to the work of our Imagine LA team, including Debra Carnow, Robert Jason, Stacey Raskin, and Rabbi Sarah Bassin, is part of our temple’s larger Community Engagement & Social Justice Program. The program, which focuses on four compelling organizations whose representatives are changing the world today, also includes Beverly Hills Public Works—Water Conservation, Jewish World Watch, and The MAJOR Fund.

The Jewish High Holy Days mark a period of reflection and a commitment to change, with the common refrain being to wish each other a Happy and Healthy New Year. The culmination of this season is Yom Kippur, the holiest time in the Jewish calendar, and when Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills offers their annual “Contemporary Issues Forum.” This year, Temple Emanuel hosted two timely Yom Kippur discussions, including “Who by Drought & Who by Famine? Building a Water-Conscious Society,” and “Who Shall Live and Who Shall Die… and Who Decides?” Each forum drew out renowned experts, notable speakers, and an audience filled with people curious about, and committed to, innovative solutions to current challenges. Among many takeaways from the forums is a partnership with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to develop a pilot program to encourage congregants to prepare Advance Healthcare Directives (AHCDs). The goal is to increase awareness of AHCDs, and the need for conversations with loved ones that will ease end-of-life decisions. If you are interested in taking part in our AHCD Survey, please visit tebh.org/AHCD. For additional information about the survey and pilot program, contact NextStage@tebh.org.

We wrap up our program’s inaugural year by highlighting this year’s cohort of Community Engagement programs in our Giving Tuesday campaign. We strongly throw our support toward member volunteerism in these programs, as well as their philanthropic efforts. This year, on Giving Tuesday, Temple Emanuel members will be encouraged to donate to one of the four cohort organizations through our Giving Tuesday webpage at tebh.org/GivingTuesday, and an anonymous donor will match the first $500 of these charitable donations as a gift to Temple Emanuel. Temple Emanuel is proud to join the more than 10,000 nonprofits worldwide participating in the mitzvah of tzedakah during this year's Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2015, and we thank you for your support.

Religous School Mitzvah Project Support As our Religious School students near the completion of their B'nai Mitzvah journey, they take it upon themselves to create a Mitzvah Project that reflects their individual values, by identifying a way that they want to help make the world a better place (Tikkun Olam). We value the efforts that our students make in helping to improve the world around us, and appreciate the support provided to help make their projects a success. Just a few months ago, Religious School student Abigail Segal chose SOVA as her Mitzvah Project, and we wanted to now bring attention to the latest Mitzvah Project with Alexandria House, as created by Skylar Quinn. To find out more about how you can help with our students’ Mitzvah Projects, email Religious School Registrar Mark Krasner at Mark@tebh.org.

Supporting Our Temple Holiday Boutique: Shopping & Supporting

Poker Tournament: A “Full House”

The annual Temple Emanuel Holiday Boutique benefiting Temple Emanuel’s schools was a huge success thanks to all of you, and our wonderful Holiday Boutique Committee, including Tamar Steff and Lisa & Leonard Shapiro. What a great turnout we had with more than 30 vendors, and the amazing Grilled Cheese Truck for our hungry shoppers.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our "fullest" and most successful poker tournament to-date. The 13th Annual “No Limit” Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament, sponsored by Temple Emanuel's Men’s Club and Young Professionals (YoPro) Group, was a night full of fun and fundraising with proceeds benefiting Temple Emanuel's schools.

Also, congratulations to the winner of our opportunity drawing, Roy Yarden, who got to go on a $500 shopping spree at our one-stop holiday shop. Thanks to everyone for proving that shopping while helping a great cause is the best type of shopping. To keep supporting this year’s Boutique vendors, log onto tebh.org/Boutique, for a complete list.

While everyone was a winner for coming out to support a great cause, the night’s “Poker Pros” were: Rabbi Jonathon Aaron, Dr. Chuck Aronberg, Thomas Javor (Grand Champion), Kevin Kaveh, Don Preiss, Kim Price, David Richmond, and John Stone. Many of our Poker Pro’s made the night even sweeter, by “giving back” their winnings to Temple Emanuel. Thanks again to our great community for giving even more meaning to, “From Strength to Strength… We Strengthen Each Other.”

Early Childhood Center NAEYC Re-Accredited Congratulations to our Early Childhood Center (ECC) staff for their re-accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) — the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. The re-accreditation is in large part due to the ECC staff's unwavering commitment to excellence in education, and dedication to our students and families. In the 29 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education.

Pillar members, the “Pillars” of our temple community, annually contribute an additional amount above full dues. The Pillar program is a significant source of the temple’s support and it enables us to provide important programs and services for our members. Our Pillar members have all the benefits of full membership and also receive a Pillar Pass with priority entrance and seating for High Holy Days, and complimentary parking. Pillar members are invited to special select events during the year as guests of Temple Emanuel, and have their names displayed in the foyer of the Corwin Family Sanctuary. If you are interested in becoming a Pillar member and supporting Temple Emanuel in this special way, please call Julie Macht at 310.409.4635.
