Welcome to the 2023 Telluride Member-Member Tournament

Dear Members,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to our signature event for the 2023 golf season at the Telluride Ski and Golf Club, the 2023 Telluride Member-Member Tournament. The tournament will feature two 9-hole matches on Wednesday and two 9-hole matches on Thursday. It is sure to be a great two days of fun and friendly competition.

This year’s event will culminate on Thursday evening with the awards presentation and dinner at Gorrono Ranch along with live music by the Tim Sullivan Band. Tournament Formats

Wednesday July 19th

Front Nine

Best Ball: Each player will play their own golf ball throughout the 9- holes. On each hole, the two team members compare scores, and the lower of the two scores count as the team’s score. Players receive 90% of their individual handicap in the Net contest.

Back Nine

2-Person Scramble: Each group will compete in a 2-person scramble competition. On each hole, each player will hit from the teeing area and the team will determine the best tee shot. From this selected position, all players on the team will hit another shot. This procedure will continue until the ball is holed. Each player must have their tee shot used at least three (3) times during the round. Player “A” will receive 35% of their course handicap and Player “B” will receive 15% of their course handicap in the Net contest.

Thursday July 20th

Front Nine

Modified Alternate Shot: Both players hit a tee shot and select the best one to play. From there, the other player hits the next shot and the team alternates until the hole is complete. Playing Handicaps will be determined by taking 40% of the player’s combined course handicaps.

Back Nine

Best Ball: Each player will play their own golf ball throughout the 9- holes. On each hole, the two team members compare scores, and the lower of the two scores count as the team’s score. Players receive 90% of their individual handicap in the Net contest.

Tournament Rules and Scoring

Rules of Play

USGA Rules apply except where modified by the Telluride Ski & Golf Club local rules.

• All-natural wetland areas and environmentally sensitive areas are prohibited from entry and are to be played as lateral hazards. These hazards are marked by red or yellow stakes with green tops.

• All roadways and areas of private property are considered out-of-bounds.

• Range finders and other distance measuring devices are permitted.

• Drop areas are designated on holes 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 12, 15, 16, and 17.

• Native and uncut grasses are NOT to be played as lateral hazards unless specifically marked as such with red stakes or paint.

• Model Local Rule E-5 (Alternative to Stroke-and-Distance) is in effect.

Tee Assignments

• Women will play from the Red Tees.

• Men will play from the Blue Tees by default. Playing Handicaps will adjust if a team selects a different tee.

• Any Men’s team that selects a different tee will be ineligible for Gross scoring. For example, if Player A chooses to play the White Tees and Player B chooses the Blue Tees, this team is only eligible for Net scoring. If both players choose a tee that is not the Blue Tees, this team is only eligible for Net scoring.

Scoring

Enter your score in the appropriate column on your official scorecards. Please return your signed and attested scorecards to the scoring table promptly upon completion of play. In the event of a tie for first place within a flight, a closest-to-the-pin challenge will occur on the 18th hole. All other ties will be broken by comparing scores from Round 2 starting on the #1 handicap hole and working down until a winner is determined.

A maximum score of Net Double Bogey is applied to each hole.

Tournament Prizes

Pari-mutuel betting will be available Tuesday July 18th at the Cart Staging area from 4:00-6:00pm. “Win”, “Place”, and “Show” bets will be made in $5.00 increments. The pari-mutuel betting will continue between 8:00-9:00am on Wednesday July 19th – prior to commencement of the tournament.

Bottle Bonanza

We are excited to host a new contest at the Telluride Golf Club on Wednesday June 19th: the “Bottle Bonanza”. The contest will take place on the practice putting green adjacent the teeing area on Hole #1.

This is an individual contest and complimentary of the Member-Member Tournament and is available to each player as they turn from Hole 18 to Hole 1.

The Professional Golf Staff will create a putting contest in which players may attempt a “short putt”, a “medium putt”, or a “long putt”. Players will putt from a designated area to one of these three targets. If a player successfully putts to one of these targets, he or she will win a prize.

Each individual who chooses to participate will have two (2) attempts to earn one (1) prize.
