A trio of traditional mexican dancers known as Mixtlan, perform at Noche de Cultura fund-raiser presented by Mecha on Nov. 5 at Palomar College. The event was a celebration of world mu~ic, art and culture. More than 100 toys were donated by guests. They will distribute the toys on Dec. 18 at Mecha's 34th annual Christmas Program and fund-raiser.

Presiding over the last governing board meeting of his 12-year career Nov 10, outgoing president Ralph Jensen said goodbye to the board and to Palomar College. Delivering the first report of the evening, Jensen blew a duck whistle and said, "Seems appropriate for a lame-duck." Jensen lost a bid for re-election to challenger Ruth Larson Nov2. "It seems ironic that it was 60 years to the day after I was born that I lost my first election," Jensen said. He thanked the board and his supporters from years past, especially during his recent battle with diabetes. Jensen said Palomar has made great progress and is now considered one of the best colleges in the nation. Jensen ended by quoting Thomas Aquinas, "Why does truth engender hate?"

Members of the speech and debate team gave a marathon of performances in front of the clock tower on the San Marcos campus Nov. 2 for its semi-annual Speak-athon fund-raiser. The 15 team members took turns giving speeches for six hours. They found sponsors to pledge money to the team for every hour they spoke. "Not only does it bring us money and exposure, but it also helps us recruit people for the team," said Dewi Hokett, director of speech at Palomar . "We can always use more people to join the team."
