Amid accusations that it was "getting rich" on the backs of faculty, Palomar College's governing board voted last week to give a raise to administrators and classified employees while questions about a raise for faculty linger. In a tense meeting April 9 that saw the room packed with faculty members, the board gave a 3.66 percent raise to administrators and executives and a 3.41 percent raise to classified employees. Several faculty members, including the presidents of the faculty union, asked the board to hold off on approving the raises until the union and the district could decide how to compensate part-time instructors.

How to tweeze
1. Numb your brows with ice and keep some ice nearby. 2. Have good lightIng- sit near a window if you must 3. Pull the skin at the outer end of the eyebrow taut against the brow bone, and use the shape of the bone as a guide. 4. Use a pair of tweezers to yank the hairs one at a time. Student interest in Palomar's student government appear to be low as few apply to run in upcoming elections. Associated Student Government officials have attributed low response to busy ASG members and an uniformed student body. ASG election committee member Robert Sedillo believes many students do not want to get involved due to a lack of knowledge about ASG and the fact that Palomar College is a two-year institution. The short stay causes students to disvalue the experience the same way as in a university ASG, Sedillo said. Also, many current ASG members were unable to attend candidate meetings due to a conference held in Washington D.C. A better turn out is expected at the next candidate meeting on Friday, April 12, Sedillo said. One ASG member doesn't anticipate a large response

Palomar College's governing board voted April 9 to keep four counselors that it had considered laying off as a result of state budget cuts. In response to a $26.8 million cut made by Gov. Gray Davis to the state matriculation budget, last month the governing board anticipated that five positions within the counseling department, including the director of matriculation, would be cut in May. Matriculation provides student services such as student orientation, assessment and course counseling. According to Faculty Senate President Christine Barkley, four probationary faculty members within the counseling department were given notice of possible layoffs March 15. The 111
