Palomar College was treated to royalty as the 1992 King and Queen were crowned at the Nov. 7 Homecoming football game between the Comets and the Grossmont Griffms. Marie Mendenhall, sponsored by Latter Day Saints Students Association, and Adrienne Aguirre, sponsored by Extended Opportunity Program and Services, were crowned during halftime with the theme, ''Looking to the Future." The coronation, sponsored by the Associated Student Government and Inter-Club Council, wrapped up Comet Week. " I was surprised because I didn't think I was going to win," said Aguirre, VicePresidentofMEChA and co-chair of ICC. She added that being crowned queen is an honor. Preliminary elections had 17 students vying for the title. During the Nov. 4-5 elections, 325 voters selected eight candidates for the Homecoming court. The other members of the court include: Robert Jenkins, Angie Landreth, Chris Lynch, Aurelio Martin, Shari Pemberton and Shenetha Williams.

The Palomar College football team had a successful weekend knocking off Southwestern College 49-27, but they were not in the celebrating mood Two of their own, linebackers Blaine Binkley and Chris Williams, were killed in car crash on the morning of Thursday, Nov.12. The accident occurred on Interstate 15 near Mira Mesa Boulevard. Binkley, 25, of Escondido, who was driving and his passenger Williams, 19, from Vashon,

White and Jensen will replace members Ben Echeverria and Harvey Williamson who did not
run for re-election. The Nov. 3 election-day results indicated a win for the three contenders, however San Diego County's 90,000 absentee ballots led to a narrow race and the one week delay for the final results. White and Hughes ran a close race with White capturing 26 percent of the 230,000 votes cast compared to Hughes who received 25 percent. Jensen defeated Henrietta · Bilhom with a slim 1 percent margin receiving 18 percent of the votes. Arlene Cawthorne, who
along with Hughes and Bilhom · was endorsed by members of the Palomar College Faculty Association and the Escondido Secondary Teachers Association, finished with 11 percent According to Palomar executive assistant Nancy Wing, college records show this year's election was the first in at least 10 years where 12 candidates vied for the Governing Board seats.
